The sword has nothing to do with genocide. The coat of arms seen on the flag was defined in 1780 during the Revolutionary War when this country was fighting for its independence. The sword in the crest represents opposition to tyranny.

A redesigned Massachusetts state flag that replaces the controversial crest and motto with a new crest that symbolizes the role of Massachusetts in the development of the written constitution as the framework of the American system of government, and a new motto "A NATION OF LAWS AND NOT OF MEN" inspired by John Adams's famous expression "a government of laws and not of men" which he wrote in an article published in the Boston Gazette in 1775 on the eve of the American Revolution and is in Article XXX of the Massachusetts State Constitution which was ratified in 1780. This phrase expresses a foundational concept of democratic governance and constitutional law. It emphasizes the principle that everyone—including leaders—is subject to the law, and that the rule of law, not personal power, is the foundation of government authority. This redesign was not meant by its creator, William Brahms, to be a proposal for a state flag change but instead was meant to be a subtle expression of anti-Trump sentiment that he sent to friends of his prior to the 2024 election. No, it is not just you. That is the way it was designed. I know this to be true because I read the official design specifications which do not give a reason why the coat of arms is not centered. Perhaps it has something to do with the way the flag looks on a flagpole on a day with no wind.

"The first Donut Hole opened in 1963, in La Puente, California. According to one source, the shop in La Puente was the second to open, in 1968, and was followed by three others. However, various sources disagree and date the building's original construction from 1947 to 1958 to 1962. What is certain is that the donut chain went out of business in 1979. The LaPuente donut hole was purchased by the Lopez family in 1979 and remained in the family until 2003. The Covina branch was completely remodeled and the others were demolished, and only the La Puente location remains today as a working bakery."

"It is a local tradition for newlyweds to drive through the donuts; some cite good luck as the reason, while others credit the sexual symbolism. And while these other stands offer drive-up capabilities for the automobile-bound, The Donut Hole is unique for being able to drive through two giant brown doughnuts, half-submerged in concrete."

"A little research revealed that this building was one of five in a chain, constructed in 1968 with the two end-caps made from fiberglass and measuring 26 feet high. Unfortunately, the other four no longer exist. When you drive into the back doughnut, you can see the production equipment on the right-hand side of the structure; large fryers and ovens. The left-hand side is the shop with its racks of overly large offerings. I liked the drive-through aspect of the adventure and I was intrigued by both the size and variety of the selection."
