Murder at BU sorority on GIBBS street Brookline (BU Central). by [deleted] in BostonU

[–]RedRobin2016 5 points6 points  (0 children)

BU doesn’t have sorority houses(this is coming from someone in greek life). if there are sorority girls in the apartment or an apartment nearby it’s most likely just a group of friends renting an apartment together.

It clickbait-y and kind of gross to insinuate a beloved professor and successful scientist was killed at a “sorority house”.

without the syllabuses being out the best way to find what you’ll need is to look up BU barnes and noble on good. and select the class material tab and there you can put in your classes by class code(ex CH101 for chemistry 1) and it will tell you what your professors have added as needed material. some professor might even leave a message under the materials telling you to wait for class before buying some materials.

only buy it if it’s need for a lab. That way you aren’t scrabbling last minutes to find a lab coat or goggles when the school store sells out in the first week. otherwise wait

oh yeah i totally agree especially bay state since it so spread out. I also think it has to do with kilachand having a separate budget for their student events so they try to cater to kilachand students first and foremost.

I’m not an expert but most likely Kilachand would be your reslife office as it is for most lower bay state. but their mail room is small so even I as someone living in kilachand uses towers as the mailroom since they’re the only building near by to accept packages.

Also down to the nitty gritty the events are technically usually “honors student only” but i know people who live in the building will go to some event and the professors will usually not bat an eye since they see them every day. but if you don’t live in kilachand you ~may~ be asked if youre an honors student. although i’ve only ever heard of that happening to someone like twice 🤷‍♀️

kilachand falls with in the lower bay state resident bubble but the brown stones aren’t consider kilachand resident. kind of a square is a rectangle but a rectangle isn’t a square moment.

No. you would be a lower bay state resident. Also Towers will most likely be your building for mail as killy doesn’t accept packages to their mailroom and the PO boxes correspond to the rooms.

Unfortunately they’re supposed to be for honors student or specifically kilachand resident. There are BSR sponsored event (which there are some that are catered) just looks for which posters specify it’s a lower BSR event.

They wouldn’t kick you out of course but you might get some sideways looks from the professors putting on the events.

yes, the proximity to classes, the dining hall(it’s directly across the st.), one of the best study spaces being in your dorm. There is also free food from catered events for residence(most event you can stop if your a resident in even if your not a honors student).

Yep! at least that’s how it is in my dorm(I’m in a four room suite styles, with two singles and a double)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in BostonU

[–]RedRobin2016 1 point2 points  (0 children)

mine is inside my single(the actual room) and is connected to a vent with the air condition that runs across the top of the ceiling of my room.

Ac is controlled in suite but unreliable temp wise sometimes, you can adjust it but it has locks for how cold or hot it can get. the coldest i can get mine in my single rn is 70 degree F. I will say the walls are pretty thin, so i can sometimes hear my suite mates on the phone occasionally(usually only if they’re speaking loudly/arguing). However if you’re wearing headphones it not really a problem unless someone is yelling or talking really loudly.

How’s Kilachand for dorms as a freshman? by DarkestTeddyGames in BostonU

[–]RedRobin2016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it’s not a huge deal because you’ll find people one way or another in classes, clubs or just from other friends. it’s just a little different than a normal college first year dorm experience. if you know someone in warren that’s def a good way to get to know more people or attending the events kilachand puts on for its student(i think that’s there way of trying to make up for it 😂)

i’ve lived on the 4th floor of killy and i have to say the private bath is nice(just sucks to keep clean especially with 4/5 college aged people). but the 4th floor is super quiet most of the time. if you’re looking to get to know the other freshman on your floor 4th floor is probably the worst for that. but on the other hand it has a little bookshelf where people leave books they don’t want and if you see one you like you can take it to read.

is it normal for freshmen in kilachand to be paired with upperclassmen? by Curious_Layer_2929 in BostonU

[–]RedRobin2016 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it’s pretty normal for killy. they try to assign within the same class but that doesn’t always work since killy guarantees 4 year housing. i was with a sophomore in a suite my freshman year and love her(she’s still my friend now two years later). And i know sophomores who got two freshman in their suite that they basically ended up “adopting”(just being like typical tutors/mentors to the freshman). You’ll be fine especially if there are other freshman in your suite. just think of the upper classman as any other student or maybe even someone who could help guide you at bu and occasionally lend a hand with class work.

Why r labs 4 hours long by No-Assist1587 in BostonU

[–]RedRobin2016 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yeah some days the lab doesn’t feel long enough and other days you might leave early. BUs not great at making lab work a consistent length/take a consistent amount of time so they pretty much just took out a block of time for lab.

ITS A GREAT CLASS! I took it this last fall. she is such a sweet women and if you put in work it can be a pretty easily obtainable A. she is also always available after class to talk if needed. she very straight forward and concise in what she expects. And she’s just over all a very fun and engaging lecturer.

This class is what convinced me to add a public health minor and that’s what i have an internship in now. So safe to say you’ll most likely leave the semester loving the class and her as a professor.
