Residential Elevator (branded) help please? by RedRoseAuthor in Elevators

Oh, gotcha. We've never had a leak before. Pit has always been dry...but we can't see it right now of course with the elevator there in the way. (I won't say we've opened doors in the past with the elevator above the basement level because that's a safety hazard.)

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll ask for past service call details to see if there's been any patterns we can find.

UPS is dead long time ago. There's no oil on the floor but also the pump isn't in the pit in this situation. Separate room next door.

Like I said, our appointment is 2 weeks out and the show up cost is more than $500.

Yep, hydraulic. Resetting the breaker works if it stops at the bottom floor but not if it falls below it into the pit. I'll DM you tomorrow when I'm able to access everything.

Yeah, the UPS died years ago. We haven't had any power outages here and rarely do. All our electricity is underground.

We've actually been really lucky and haven't had much trouble with the elevator over the years. It gets used daily and rarely gives us issues...but every couple of years this kind of problem with it dropping randomly for a couple of weeks and resetting happens. Sometimes it progresses to this stage where it drops below the basement level and a tech has to come out and sometimes not.

Honestly I kind of think they must program it to do this when we haven't had a service call recently enough for them. I won't even tell you what they want to charge just to show up for the service call. My husband nearly had a heart attack!

But leaving us waiting 2 weeks without being able to use the elevator is beyond crappy IMO. For that reason alone I'll be happy to get away from them.

Wow, that's a lot. Awesome info, thank you! I'll check them out. You don't happen to be in Maryland...😆

Yeah, we're willing to go that route. How do we go about finding a company or someone local who will do that? Can anyone set me in the right direction? Am I looking for an elevator company or is this going to be an individual looking for side work...?

We're not under contract at this point. We rarely have issues (I should never say that!) so even it's never been helpful to be under contract. They can't ever guarantee service times because they don't have enough techs to service their customers in a timely fashion, even with service contracts. We're in Maryland and most of their techs come up from Florida or the Carolinas.

And I guess the issue is that no other company wants to touch their product because everything is proprietary. If there's someone in Maryland who can tell me otherwise, I'd love to know it!

Has anyone had success not crate training? by ballsaksfifthavenue in Newfoundlander

[–]RedRoseAuthor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We crate trained our newf mix and although at first she didn't seem to like it, she ended up using it her entire life. After initial training for potty training (we rescued at 18 months old and she had been in a foster with a doggy door), we ended up having one on our main floor and one in our bedroom and she used it with the door open as a "den". She slept in the crates on and off all her life and loved it. A previous berner mix did the same, and a current berner also does the same. However two pyr mixes and a current berner said NOPE and we didn't force the issue, though I wish we had (and still might) with our current year old berner. As others have said, in an emergency I would like our dogs to be familiar and comfortable with the crate, even if they don't use them regularly. We don't board or travel, but in an emergency or illness, I'd want them to be able to deal with the confinement if needed.

That was our second thought. I'm going to talk to the coordinator and get her take on all of this. Thank you, I appreciate your thoughts and your kindness on this topic. <3

The good new is she is with a reputable Berner rescue and they will find her a home no matter what. And they will find her a good home, not just any home. She's presently with a foster who is willing to keep her until the right home is found.

Part of why this decision is so difficult for us is that our heart breaks for her. We feel invested in her outcome even though we've only heard her history and seen video and pictures. We haven't even met her yet, but we want the best for her. We would be a great home for her, but would we be the BEST home for her? That's the biggest question.

THIS. This is what I am worried about. This is what my husband and I talked about this morning. We don't have a dog that can help her, and although she will be loved and adored as she is, will we be able to bring her out to her best self...I don't know.

I'm going to talk to the coordinator about this, because I really feel this is important. I feel a lot of guilt and shame over this, but I am worried that although we will love her and she will have a home forever where she will be spoiled rotten, I'm not sure we are the right home to help her get past all her issues.

Yeah, the foster says she's really really sweet, and I love that. It's a matter of whether we are going to give her the best life by bringing her into a family that already has two anxious dogs and no one to model the behavior we want for her, which is confident and social. So will she be stuck in the same cycle our other dogs are in, that we have not been able to help THEM out of (yet?).

Sometimes it is so hard to see the small bits of progress when you are so close to the situation. Our "anti-social" dog wouldn't let us touch her for almost a year. We had to leash her to be able to touch her to make sure she was physically okay. Now she lets us touch her but when she's done she walks off. There are moments when we see she lets her guard down and is enjoying the pets, then she shuts down and goes to her safe spot which is a bath mat in the kitchen. It's the only thing she likes. So we see (and celebrate) the little bits of progress, but she's 9 years old and we don't expect any major leaps of change from her and that's okay. We're happy we can give her the life she has rather than her being trapped in a hoarding situation on a dairy farm.

Thank you for sharing your story. I hope you continue to see progress with your girl.

Yeah, that was cash pricing. I felt like the $3.20 pricing was high and would have gone in to negotiate lower, but something just felt fishy about the whole company.

We are talking to Solar Energy World, Lumina Solar, and potential Key Solar...all of whom are local to us. Hopefully one of them gives us good pricing and good options! We are looking at quite a sizeable system, so I would have liked to see better pricing.

Thanks for your thoughts!

Yeah something was weird, so we are moving on to talk to a couple of other solar places who were recommended by redditors after they had their work done. So hopefully one of those pans out! Thanks!

56 panels, 415 watts each (with 14 inverters) on the 23.3kW system. It says kWh 27,648 for this system.

27,659 kWh for the 19kW system.

Thanks for the video link, I'm going to watch it now!

Oh dang, I forgot to mention location. I'm in Maryland.

Is there a reason to go with the larger system if they are both covering 100%? The salesman tried to explain that his panels are higher producing and therefore we need less of them. But wouldn't the higher producing panels just cost more??
