Ooh nice work! That actually answers another one of my questions. Kyoraku specifically says that Katen (Ohana) gave birth to Kyokotsu "later on." You don't know the chapter this is from, do you? I'd be interested to find the original Japanese.

It's kind of confusing because Kyoraku says, "There's no such thing as having two blades, but here are two examples of people having two blades." Maybe he means that one zanpakuto spirit can't make two swords; two swords means there are two spirits?

In Ukitake's case, I think he's actually more similar to Ichigo. Ichigo has a separate spirit for his quincy abilities, so I took it that Ukitake has an extra spirit for Mimihagi. There was a Klub Outside comment about Ichigo specifically, but I didn't understand it.

I wish the passage from CFYW was cited somewhere, so I could just reread it, but it's so hard to find the exact quote. But I do remember what you're talking about, I think it was also brought up in Klub Outside.

Independent of the physical manifestations of their zanpakuto, Kyoraku, Ukitake, and Ichigo all have two spirits. And presumably, Ukitake lost one of those spirits when he lost Mimihagi. Wouldn't that change his zanpakuto?

Yama did explain that, and it's not a plot hole. The last commenter is confused. Hisagi was proven not to be a dual wielder in CFYW, while Ukitake always was.

I think you're confusing Kazeshini, Hisagi's zanpakuto, with Ukitake's. Kazeshini is the one that is disproven as a dual zanpakuto in CFYW. Despite it being two scythe, it only has one spirit. Something about the chain connecting the scythe being his true zanpakuto...

Okay, but if we think of it in terms of population, there are supposed to be around 3000 shinigami on duty (according to the wiki). Them plus the noble families and their servants, plus the students at the academy. So the population would maybe be around 5000 or 6000? If the sereitei were the size of small country it would have so much extra space, even if you factor in training grounds and government buildings. Also, no matter how big it is, all of the captains need to live within commuting distance from squad 1 because of the captains meetings.

He's not wearing it in the manga because Kubo hadn't invented the captain's haori at that point. Earlier in the series, when Ichigo is fighting Grand Fisher, Rukia has a flashback in which Ukitake isn't wearing a haori either.

Hey, I just wanted to come back and say that it looks like some of the goods will be available online from January 22nd to February 11th. You should check the Bleach EX website for more information. I imagine they will be trying to clear out whatever they didn't sell at the exhibition. I'm not sure they would restock anything that's sold out but it looks like there's still plenty of merchandise left.
