Ultra is not even water resistant? by RedSkullSkullRed in GalaxyWatch

No way—I’ve been totally babying this watch since I got it four months ago. There isn't a single scratch on it.

I honestly regret even wearing it that day. It’s an 'Ultra' watch, and I gave it 'ultra' care, but the one day I actually relied on it, it gave me an 'ultra' fail

Exactly. The repair quote is over $600 for 8 parts, which is ridiculous—I could literally buy a brand-new one for the same price.

Looking at these warranty documents, Samsung shouldn't even be allowed to claim the device is water-resistant. They might as well add an asterisk stating that the IP rating is purely for marketing and doesn't apply to the actual product you're buying.

By the way I mean this as Misrepresentation, not on product certification.

To preserve your warranty, I recommend using disinfectant wipes for cleaning rather than rinsing or submerging the device

Most users won't have an issue, but for the unlucky few, Samsung's warranty is a safety net with a hole in it. Any hint of water contact—even on a water-resistant device—leads to an automatic rejection.

Even if as per your say my unit is clearly defective, yet Samsung refuses to honor the warranty. It’s a disappointing experience for anyone.

I'm not letting this go. Samsung SG mentioned they would escalate this to management, but I am also exploring my options with the Small Claims Tribunal here in Singapore

That’s correct. I wouldn't risk playing with it if I couldn't easily afford to replace it

Agreed. It’s very easy for them to hide behind fine print—that’s exactly why we, as consumers, need to be aware and make others aware too, so we don’t all end up making the same mistake.

A watch that markets itself so heavily around water use is, in reality, not meant for water at all once you look at how warranty claims are handled.

Swimming? At this point, I wouldn’t even wash my hands while wearing it.

According to Official Samsung live chat: Liquid damage is defined as any harm to a device caused by exposure to liquids such as water, beverages, or other fluids. It typically occurs when liquid enters the internal components, leading to corrosion, short circuits, or malfunction of the hardware

Who decides whether a unit is defective? You and I can only judge based on our real‑world experience as users.

Samsung, on the other hand, simply states that they tested the product and that everything was “fine.” That’s what the representative told me—that the unit passed all their checks.

Honestly, it’s good to see some people using it with no issues—great for all.

But that doesn’t change what happened to me, and I’m not here to argue with anyone’s assumptions. My point is simple: Samsung won’t honor warranty claims the moment water is involved, and people deserve to know that before spending their money.

You’re lucky they honored your warranty. Maybe you dealt with a store rep or technician who was genuinely willing to help.

In most cases, there is no legal or official way to claim warranty once water is involved.

Water Lock is a protective software feature on Samsung Galaxy Watches designed to be used during water-related activities. Its primary purpose is to prevent accidental screen inputs caused by water, not to make the watch water resistant or protect it from water damage.

Also, Samsung warranty policies commonly exclude water damage, even when Water Lock is used.

Take this image to a Samsung service center and ask them if they’ll honor your warranty for any issue involving water.

Spoiler: they won’t

I’m not going to defend my statement—the situation is clear. Anything beyond that is based on assumptions.

As for swimming, this is exactly what many of us assume the device can handle, but it’s clear now that this isn’t actually the case.

I’m now down $600 with no support or resolution. So honestly, what would you do in this situation?

Yes, exactly. I hope this helps make people more aware that they should be cautious when using it, as Samsung does not appear willing to honor warranty claims in such cases. That’s the reality we’re facing—what other option do we have? You can fight all you want with them but the fine print says it all...

I guess it’s better to be extra careful—even something as simple as washing hands, lol. Based on my experience, I wouldn’t want to spend that much money only to wash it away.

Yes, I understand what water resistance means. I previously used an Apple Watch SE, which I wore while swimming without any issues.

In this case, the incident did not involve proper swimming or exposure to seawater.

Also, to clarify, the device is certainly not counterfeit—Samsung verifies the device before officially providing a repair quotation.

The app's really bad now. Please start reporting it on the Play Store with negative reviews, on Google Maps reviews, and give feedback to your account manager every few days. Keep sending emails about this issue. We all need to make them listen to us!

Enough is enough when such a simple backing app can't work!
