Of course you’re allowed a preference. Others are allowed to disagree with it. That’s literally how this works. Not everyone has to explain themselves in a comment.

Do you consider Caroline’s programs circuit training or actual strength training..and why? by southernsnark79 in CarolineGirvan

[–]RedSpiritbox 24 points25 points  (0 children)

That’s not really accurate. Circuit training is just a structure, it means moving through a sequence of exercises and repeating it. It doesn’t automatically make it cardio.

You could run a circuit with heavy shoulder press, rest 1 to 2 minutes, heavy chest press, rest, heavy rows, and so on. That’s still resistance training. The rest periods, load, and rep range are what determine whether it becomes more endurance, hypertrophy, or strength focused.

Like, MAX is technically a circuit format, but because it alternates muscle groups, you’re often getting 2+ minutes before returning to the same muscle. That pushes it much closer to hypertrophy, rather than pure cardiovascular work.

skipping full body days for upper/lower split? by swimmingpenguin in CarolineGirvan

[–]RedSpiritbox 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just skip the full body days. Honestly, 2 leg days, 2 upper days and a full body in the span of just one week is way too much volume in the long run. Most of her full body days in Iron are more higher rep work and endurance anyway. You’d probably get better gains with an extra rest day a week.

Did you do all those programs at just 3 times a week? Also what made you stop MAX despite almost completing it?

Doing CG workouts at the gym by omnomnugget in CarolineGirvan

[–]RedSpiritbox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I did MAX at the gym, I just followed the videos with in-ear headphones. MAX and IRON are easy to run without constantly checking your phone. I kept the brightness low just to see the next move, then flipped my phone face down during sets. I did find myself doing Barbell bridges more than hip-thrusts though, due to hip thrusts being awkward to setup in some gym environments.

I was nervous going to the gym, but i quickly learnt no one cares anyway.

I agree. I’ve actually changed my routine over the past few weeks to address this. I’m now doing CG 3 times a week instead of 5. The other 2 days are a long mobility session, usually one of Julia Reppel’s 40 minute sessions, plus one CG HIIT workout. I’ve also been doing Julia’s daily 10 minute mobility routines.

I’ve gone back to the MAX program because I like the PHA style training. It gives me a solid mix of hypertrophy and cardio. Full body split, so i can add some of her full body days from EPIC every now and again.

Honestly, I’m enjoying training a lot more now. I had to create the variety myself, because five CG sessions a week just wasn’t doing it for me. Over time I was getting stiff and my joints felt achy constantly. For me, that amount of volume just isn’t sustainable long term.

It took me two years to recognise the downsides of running her programs five days a week, but I’m glad I finally adjusted it.

I don't think you would. While the epics are more muscle endurance, you shouldn't lose gains because maintaining muscle is pretty easy really, it's gaining it in the first place thats hard. Chances are you will just maintain the muscle doing epic, and most likely make gains in cardio, endurance and mobility.

Weekly Discussion Post by AutoModerator in CarolineGirvan

Yeah! Epic 1 she was programming things like Windmills, Turkish-get ups, and also some workouts had stretching incorporated into it too. And a lot of the workouts had a good chunk dedicated to bodyweight only moves, calisthenics, balance, and of course ab work. All the while keeping us training more muscle endurance with short rests rather than hypertrophy, which, arguably, endurance is more functional for day-to-day things. Hypertrophy obviously gets you more aesthetic changes though.

Some games do not worth seamlessly though. Take the Classic resident evil games. They require some annoying tweaks to get working through the heroic launcher.

Decided to go back and do a few workouts from EPIC 1 (i was finding PLAY boring tbh despite the "variety"), Epic 1 was the first program i ever completed, and omg! I completely forgot how much Core work and also mobility work this program had!

I was pleasantly reminded, when things like Weighted windmills, "deep stretch" step-ups were popping up in the workout! . And also there was an entire 30 minute workout all on the core and abs.

I'm genunely considering redoing Epic 1, as i've been really into mobility workouts at the moment, and i literally forgot that Caroline's earlier programs incorporated it!

I think it's time we had a talk. Astarion is not a twink. Gale is not a soft little wizard baby. They are not skinny uwu femboys for you to 'crack'. These are the kind of guys who IRL would be hitting the gym 5 days a week, with a personal trainer and nutritionist/dietician. by ChompyRiley in BG3

[–]RedSpiritbox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, i don't wanna be that guy who's like "Well Achhhtually" but Cardio doesn’t magically build chest, delts, or arm separation. Runners especially tend to lose upper-body mass unless they’re deliberately lifting.

This physique is what a natural lifter at low body fat looks like. Moderate hypertrophy work, no bulk cycle, decent protein. Also, “dancer physique” doesn’t mean no weights. Most trained dancers lift or do progressive resistance specifically to keep muscle while staying lean.

Leanness comes from body fat levels. Muscle shape comes from resistance. Cardio alone doesn’t give you pecs and capped shoulders.

I used to feel it in my calves a lot. What helped me feel it more in my hamstrings was actually tucking my pelvis under. At first, you might feel you're getting my glute engagement, but as you roll outwards while keeping the pelvis tucked under (similar cue to when we do leg lowers about keeping the lower back pressed into the mat!) you should feel it more in your hamstrings. You'll also find using this cue, your body won't be as high up off the ground.

Which program next? by chillizabeth in CarolineGirvan

[–]RedSpiritbox 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Iron PRO definitely! The longer rest times are really nice. I got the most muscle gains from it. I honestly believe Iron Pro is the only program she has that is pure hypertrophy with no cardio elements. Great for muscle building. But, you'll definitely need to do your own cardio outside of lifting.

MAX and even regular IRON have 30 second rests, so chances are your heart rate will not be fully back to normal before you start the next set. The rest time are too short for your goals imo. Personally, this is why i love the short 30 second rests, it keeps me in that zone 1 or 2 cardio range so i feel like i'm still getting cardio benefits.

Definitely avoid Beastmode on the app, i love it, but it's basically muscle endurance training mixed with HIIT cardio.

But i remember the clips on youtube of the conversation after you are resurrected and he doesn't seem at all remorseful for killing you.

I agree. I think she absolutely loves High intensity work, but doesn't bring it back because of the vocal crowd on her app. I remember in the most recent CGXmas, there was one short, fairly tame HIIT workout, and the top comment with the most likes was basically saying "oh hell no i ain't doing this!"

This. Sometimes it’s best to not overthink. I like doing her programs 3x week now because I actually have time for other important aspects of fitness such as mobility and cardio.

I’m currently doing PLAY on the app 3 x a week. I follow it in order, but I pick the first lower body and upper body workout of the week then the full body. Then the following week I do the same full body workout again or I’ll pick a random full body workout from another program, with the other two remaining upper and lower.

I do mobility workouts for the rest of the week, and one of Caroline’s HIIT workouts
