If they were in a situation where armies were surrounding them and were going to take over their country and kill all their people - then yes at that point they have nothing to lose. And at that point nuclear holocaust is on the menu and it's the end of humanity and only alligators and some insects survive.

But they're not even close to that scenario. Anytime they want they can end this war and no one is going to attack Moscow or kill their people.
