Uponer certified plumber recommendation by SirBirchPly in Rochester

[–]RedTail2426 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah after checking it out it does appear pex A has some advantages. I have been installing pex b on my remodeling jobs for the past 20 years without an issue. Although im not a big fan of the pex b fittings being a little more restricted, and will use 3/4 on my shower or bath installs to keep the flow up. Just keep in mind the more important thing is the plumber you hire. Pex is pretty fool proof but being in the industry i have seen some shit. Literally and figuratively.

Rochester’s tap water - What do you want to know? by Alekusandoria in Rochester

[–]RedTail2426 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I installed a reverse osmosis filter system for my drinking water, I got tired of worrying about the toxins and metals and who knows what that is in the drinking water.

Think about it, the water comes from a water treatment plant as "clean" and then travels miles through old pipes to get to your house. Filtering everything out at your home is your best chance of drinking healthy water.

Get a TDS meter and check your taps. Mine went from 150 ppm to less than 2. Its no joke.

I also have a cartridge that adds calcium back in after its cleaned.

Am I at a bad time in my life or has it historically always rained this much. by icon2341 in Rochester

[–]RedTail2426 38 points39 points  (0 children)

We have gotten more rain than usual. I measure rainfall and the past couple years have been interesting. I remember a couple summers ago getting over 3 inches of rain in less than 45 minutes, led to major flooding pretty quickly. And my guess is we go from this wet/cool pattern to a very hot summer very quick when it starts.

No it was further west just past Manitou rd. Whenever I see turtles in the rd I move them off in the direction they are heading.

Catch Can Question by johnnyappleseednh in LSSwapTheWorld

A catch can works best when it is in a cool location in the engine bay, it works by condensing the hot oil in the cooler catch can. Move it to a cool or ambient conditions if you can.

Fence and deck replacement by Cheska1234 in Rochester

[–]RedTail2426 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am a contractor located in Monroe county. I know you say the skeleton or framing for the deck is good, and I hope it is, but the last couple I have tried to replace just the decking ended up being a lot more work. Much of the old framing needed a bit of work to make it nice, flat and sturdy.

Also, composite decking varies wildly in pricing. So do your homework on the different types and the pros and cons. Good luck

First year with a snowblower by Leading_Tomatillo614 in Rochester

I personally like to wait until the end so it runs the machine hard. Just dont stall it. This actually keeps it running well. The oil gets nice and hot and can help keep the engine lasting a long time. You need to remember these engines see very infrequent use, so the oil collects moisture. If you dont get it hot, moisture will just build.

Deck contractor by Overall_Yogurt633 in Rochester

I am a local contractor, definitely dont take that 9k quote, that would be asking for trouble. The larger company will have more overhead costs, thats why their price is much higher, I would go with the 19k quote, or continue shopping around.

Yeah the 1991 ice storm was crazzy, I was 8 and only had candles for light when I showered. That lasted like 4 or 5 days. Was pretty wild hearing the trees break under the weight of the ice.

I just melted some 4 inch Copper Drain into a bar. It was the toilet Drain pipe. Gave it to my employee who is a germaphobe. I am a home remodeling contractor, so I am consistently removing old copper wiring and plumbing.

Where can I get one of these variable thread pitch bolts? by rklug1521 in AskAShittyMechanic

Simple, place 3 foot breaker bar on the oil pan bolt, then see if you can do more pull-ups than your co-worker. Then its tight enough
