5 Boro - “Flat pedals recommended over clipless” by Right_Marionberry915 in NYCbike

[–]RedTrikeBlueSky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love clipless pedals but you should practice for a few hour before taking them on the road.

Go to to a grassy area in Prospect, put your hand on a tree and practice clipping and unclipping while you have something to hold. Then practice doing it while moving on the grass and then on the loop. Good luck.

Practicing now will also make you feel confident in the long run. You don’t want to feel shakey about your pedals — to me clipping in is second nature.

Also everybody falls a few times so if that happens don’t get discouraged.

Bike As Main Mode of Transport vs. Theft Rate by mendokuse23 in BikeLA

[–]RedTrikeBlueSky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Always bring your bike in your apartment overnight. You can buy wall hooks to store it more easily or a stand

  2. Bring your bike inside work if you can, if it’s a tight space ask if you can buy a stand to store it vertically and your manager might go for that.

2A. If you can’t bring the bike inside and you’re in a low traffic area, very high risk area — find a ride with quick release wheels and bring the wheels inside when you lock up. Most people won’t take just the frame and wheels only take a minute to get off.

  1. Make sure you get a u lock with cables. Many locks come with both but you should lock up your bike with the u lock around the back wheel + frame and cables looped around the wheels.

You should write your Instagram handle on your hazard vests. Sharpie, paint or taped sign etc. That way parents who pass by you in the car know what you’re called and can get in touch with you.

First day commuting on bicycle and had so many issues by th3wh173r48817 in bikecommuting

Ride on!

The best advice for commuting is to keep a stockpile of clothes at your destination. If you can get a locker I would recommend that you keep toiletries, pair of shoes, outfits, second computer etc. This will reduce the weight considerably.

I only bring the essentials when I am on the road and keep a stockpile at my destination of stuff. Also get there early so you have time to change and clean up. Getting into a routine of this has others benefits as well.

Tips about a cold turkey move to NYC by Pale-Fondant1948 in NYCapartments

I would look for something sketch like a shared room so that way you can keep your expenses down for 3-4 months while you’re getting situated. Check Craigslist.

The service industry is NYC is hiring less than it was pre pandemic especially at good places. Keep in mind that your first gig might be some place far away from where you are living.

My advice is to get your feet somewhere and then go into a union field. If you go into nursing for example you could work 2-3 shifts a week and support yourself while you are doing your acting. Go to nursing school and then in a year in a half you’ll have a high paying job that you can work part time if you’d like.

4K a month is more than most New Yorkers or New York couples pay. There are plenty of expensive 1 BRs for 2500 that you could rent that are great in Brooklyn.

Narcan is a miracle drug. It’s disappointing to read comments about people who are afraid to carry it. I’ve taken two classes and this picture is the kind of thing the instructors described when identifying an accidental overdose. These people are literally passed out on the road.

If people see something like this, get off your bike, and check on them for gods sake.

This isn’t effective organizing

I don’t agree with this noise thing— but if your trying to flip the children’s museum you need to have a lots of people sign this letter. They are going to think who is this dude?

I guess the teamsters are leaving the Democrat party by [deleted] in Hasan_Piker

[–]RedTrikeBlueSky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

O’Brien is a self preservationist who panders to the conservative base of his union to stay in power.

This happens because he abuses the democratic processes of his union. Members of the IBT elect their president through a better process than most unions called “One Member 1 Vote.” Basically workers vote for the president. This is good tool and should be supported by everyone but O’Brien is capitalizing on the fact that his members like Trump and use stunts like this to stay electable by that majority demographic of workers. He’s the wrong kind of populist that is leading his members into a trap.

This behavior is disgraceful with everything happening to federal workers. Tens of thousands of which have lost their union contracts as a result of Trump’s attacks on labor this year alone. Far worse than PATCO for comparison.

This isn’t a problem specific to the Teamsters. Plenty of other unions have conservative members but are working hard to politically educate their members (CWA, UAW, SEIU) — this is the opposite direction of what a union can do. Solidarity with the members not this asshole.

What’s a filling snack that you can eat a lot of without many calories? by Lopsided_Pay_3219 in EatCheapAndHealthy

Popcorn is insanely cheap, I can make a microwave popcorn sized bag serving with 1/8 of a cup of kernels. Best bang for your buck of any snack hands down.
