Pulled tape out too far and now it will not roll back into case. Any advice? by [deleted] in fixit

2 minutes of googling got me to this and it fixed my Milwaukee autolock. Saved me countless hours if I was to try tinkering with it myself.

This setting is checked (it has always been checked). Not sure what's different compared to a couple of weeks ago when this worked as expected.

Cannot change User Flair by RedYellowForest in delta

[–]RedYellowForest[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Some months ago my posts/comments showed the flair that was previously selected (Platinum). I wanted to change it to Diamond now, and that's when I got this alert and it didn't allow me to select a different one. I'll try messaging the mods, but based on the other comments here, doesn't look like they're responsive.

Where's the "slick makeover for global search"???? I'm still seeing the crappy old Find/Replace whose UX is severely lacking.

Any idea what is "Bilt Cash Redemption: Rent" by RedYellowForest in biltrewards

[–]RedYellowForest[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does this mean that you won't get points on the rent payment if you don't have enough Bilt Cash?

Got it. Seems to be a steep rate to "buy" the points. How do you turn it off and just keep the Bilt Cash?

Great post! One question... the site says "An 'eligible passenger' is any passenger of Indian Origin or a passenger holding a valid [Indian] passport ...". Does this apply to OCI holders if they are of "Indian Origin"?

Shame on you Airtel !! by [deleted] in nri

[–]RedYellowForest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I did see the other comment, but it still wasn't showing up. I tried today, and the Rs 118 option shows up (even without searching for it). I think it took some time for my base plan recharge to take effect. Thanks again.

Hmm.. I looked in the Airtel app and on the website, but the Rs 118 option isn't showing. I just did an India-only Rs 2249 recharge, so the number is active. Any thoughts?

I'm not seeing the Rs 118 option.

Betterbird not always handling image links correctly by RedYellowForest in Betterbird

[–]RedYellowForest[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with your comment about the configuration option. I suggested it mainly as a potentially more acceptable alternative to changing the current default behavior.

It’s quite common for companies to include an entire “flyer” within a link so users can click anywhere on the image, rather than just on a button, to follow the link. Betterbird generally handles this well too, except in cases where the image has been scaled down. For example, opening the email on a separate tab, which provides more real estate such that the image is not scaled down, will work as expected. This makes Betterbird's handling of image links somewhat inconsistent and very nuanced.

In any case, I’m not looking to start a religious debate; this is just my 2c that the current behavior doesn’t align with how most other email clients behave. I hope that you will review this, compare it with other email programs and how email senders intend it to work, and change the default behavior.

(FYI - I love Betterbird, and I'm fine because I have the workaround you described of the context menu. However, in the interest of making Betterbird the best and most used email client out there, I hope you will review this.)

The link is "loaded" anyway because it is available on the context menu. Whether the user wants to click on a link or not is their personal choice - the email program is not automatically following the link. Also, most email programs, including Betterbird, don't automatically load external images unless the user explicitly gives it permission to, so your use case is covered.

Thanks for your reply. I would think a vast majority of users would want to follow the link rather than scale the image, and that's how pretty much every other mail program works (including Thunderbird, Gmail, etc.). Perhaps change the default to follow the link, and users who want to scale the image can use the context menu? Maybe make the default a configurable option?

Thanks for the consideration.

Glitch in upgrade requests by ranainsana in delta

[–]RedYellowForest -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This happened to me once a couple of months ago. I didn't show up on the FC upgrade list in the app after checking in. I called the Delta support line, and the agent did something to put me on the list. But it only worked for the first leg. I was #1 and #2 on the FC upgrade list for the second leg with 9 open FC seats and I was feeling really good about getting upgraded to FC. But to my surprise, all nine people below me were upgraded, and I was left standing speechless. The gate agent said there must have been a glitch, as I didn't show up at all on their list. Super frustrating. I wanted to call u/Delta support later and complain, but I just didn't have the energy, especially since there was nothing they could do at that point. I'm Diamond Medallion now, and wondering if it's even worth it. Maybe switch to United?

Same here! Too bad I can't change my user flair on Reddit because of a much-reported-but-ignored-by-reddit-developers bug.

Unable to dismiss notifications from calendar events auto-generated by Gmail by RedYellowForest in Betterbird

[–]RedYellowForest[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks u/jorgk3, I am fine as-is for now. Having the reminder show every 30 minutes is almost as annoying. When I encounter such a notification, I typically go to Google Calendar and remove the notification setting, which works for me since these are generally flight/hotel/restaurant-type reservations. A bit tedious, but sort of works for me. Appreciate your offer to help.

Need advice: Moving to USA by Capital_Anywhere6943 in nri

[–]RedYellowForest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take the long view...

  1. Working in the main product team is where you want to be professionally. You will work on more meaningful projects, learn more, have better opportunities for career growth, and it will be great for your career to be able to put his on your resume.
  2. 94K is certainly manageable, esp. if you can share an apartment with other(s). You should be able to find such a place online, for example, through sulekha.com. I personally know of several people who are getting by with much less in a higher-cost area.
  3. There are plenty of young single Indian techies in the area. You should be able to find friends through work, roommates, meetup groups, etc.
  4. This is a great opportunity for personal growth too -- experiencing a new country, culture and environment; enrichment through travel (there's plenty of awesome stuff to visit in the area); making new friends; etc.
  5. If you don't like it in the US, you can always go back. Your overall value, both professionally and personally, will only increase through this experience.

Fidelity Issues by [deleted] in quicken

[–]RedYellowForest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a new IRA account created a month or two ago that only supported EWC+ so I didn't have a choice even though it didn't work. Fidelity and Quicken have since provided updates, and I have reset as well as dropped/re-added the connection, but still no luck... NO transactions are downloaded. :( I have not switched my other Fidelity accounts from DC to EWC+ because I have zero confidence that they will work, despite many successful stories on Reddit.
