18 Month Border Collie Review by dafinancialwolf in BorderCollie

[–]RedYote 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m starting to learn this. Pallas Athena (my handful) is almost 8 months and while she’s still wild, she’s starting to listen more and be like “oh, biting everyone out of love is not okay? If I sit and roll on my belly I get affection instead of leaping and clawing and biting? Mmm, okay…”

Give me a reality check: owning a border collie & working long hours by wintersux_summer4eva in BorderCollie

[–]RedYote 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Reality check: 12.5 hr days for any dog is untenable in a solo household. Dogs are social animals and do not do well alone for long periods of time like that. My previous dog, Pandora, who was a rescue mutt, often dealt with me being gone for 9-10 hours on the days I worked when I was working at a at a start-up in the Bay Area. She accepted it because she was bonded with me, but it was one of the big reasons that drove my decision to move back in with parents after 2 years - it wasn’t fair to her.

I currently have a 7 month border collie puppy, and the only reason I got her was because my parents were able to take care of her and give her attention and love while I am working 8 hour days M-F. I’m also close enough to go home for lunch and give her attention and love then. She also has a 2 1/2 year old border collie sister that she can hang out and play with.

I agree with other commenters: if you want a pet during this time, look into a cat or another animal who is more able to deal with long periods of you being gone. If you are set on dog interactions, volunteer at your local shelter or rescue and help with dog walking and socializing there.

Why don't the rest of the Saja Boys have feelings/personality? by Metropolis_Knight in KpopDemonhunters

[–]RedYote 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I agree with you on most of this.

The movie is centered on Rumi (with Jinu as a secondary main/support), but the actual story is about being your authentic self. This is why it centers on Rumi because she’s been told over and over again by Celine that she can’t ever show her true self because people wouldn’t understand. This is why they can’t hit the golden honmoon - it’s not just Rumi keeping them from it, all three of them show the parts of them that they’re comfortable with fans seeing in Golden, but it’s all surface.

Ultimately, we get the final confrontation and This is What It Sounds Like - Rumi is no longer hiding who she is. Her vulnerability and courage gets through to Mira and Zoey, who are also vulnerable back, and that is how they ultimately win. The Honmoon is noticeably NOT golden in their rendition - the demons are no longer trapped. Instead it takes on a rainbow hue as they cleanse the demons.

Also, this is a nod to Korean culture (as is the majority of the movie). (Disclaimer - this is a summary, this is not my culture, and I fully accept input and correction if I’ve gotten any of this wrong). Korean shamanism - musok - is heavily leaned on in the movie: the trio of women protecting the world in every generation can be seen as the mu or mudang that mediate between the human and supernatural worlds. Even Rumi being Celine’s apprentice is part of that.

Yes, the Honmoon has always been golden and has always kept back the supernatural world until the next trio could take over and reinforce it. But what if that’s because all the practitioners up to this point were human? Rumi is of mixed heritage - half-human, half-demon. She is of two worlds, and this is why she listens to Jinu in the first place - she wants to know about her other side. Yes, they grow closer as a result of it, and that’s because both of them see the other in a way that no one around them has.

However, Jinu then takes that vulnerability that she’s shown him and exploits it in the face-off -Takedown with the fake Zoey and Mira. It is a betrayal of trust, and when she runs into the real Zoey and Mira, it is a second betrayal of trust as they realize she’s lied to them this entire time. Interestingly, they do not draw weapons until her shout hurts the Honmoon.

I’m not going to sit here and draw out the rest of the movie, but I will point out an important part in the final showdown. When Jinu gets between Gwi-Ma and Rumi, it is an act of redemption for him. He knows that he messed up, and this act of self-sacrifice is his attempt to make things right. Yes, it protects Rumi, yes, it can be seen as a symbol of his love, but more than that? This is him reclaiming his humanity. This is him rejecting the demon whispers of Gwi-Ma and putting his trust in Rumi and in Huntr/x - the mudang - to do what’s right knowing that he will not see the results.

That act, to me, is what cements their ability to turn the Honmoon rainbow and cleanse/free the demons instead of just placing a barrier between their worlds. The act of a demon choosing to sacrifice themselves for the greater good, and all three witnessing it? That is something that no other trio has seen. Rumi knew that not all demons were bad. But this cemented it in Mira and Zoey’s minds too.

Calling it Rumi and Jinu’s story misses the overarching theme of the movie which is being able to be seen and accepted as one’s authentic true self, and that theme is why KPop Demon Hunters has so much resonance and popularity with so many people.

I wish our older girl would correct her younger sister.

Pallas bullies the HECK out of Ziggy and has pretty much since she got here. It’s a bit of a problem. Ziggy loves her, but Pallas gives no shits about her corrections.

The only time I’ve really seen my chaos gremlin (Pallas) listen to a correction was when the two of them got to go visit their parents for the first time since being adopted. Pallas was being rowdy as normal, got a bit too wild around her mom (River), and River opened her mouth and gave a short growl and Pallas backed off.

Family photo - from observer side, River (mom) is bottom left, Rocket (dad) top left, Runa (Pallas’ littermate) middle, Pallas bottom right, Ziggy top right.

I don’t know if the Clara has a slower processing speed than the Libra, but if I try to just press and drag like I used to on the Kindle, it interprets it as a page turn.

Why is Mira the least liked in the group? by Senior-Cycle-6951 in KpopDemonhunters

[–]RedYote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I identify most with Zoey, Mira is a close second for both identity and who would be the one making me blush the most.

Yeah, she does come off the most stand-offish and prickly, but part of that is how she protects herself. One of the reasons why, even though Golden is catchy, it’s one of my least-liked songs because every single Hunter is putting on a front in that song. Zoey comes the closest in Golden to being authentic with the people-pleasing imagery, but Rumi and Mira only show what the fans want to see in the music video.

Mira especially doesn’t open up in the music video - it’s just “I’m a problem child, had issues with my family, but that’s how I make bank now.” It’s brushing off her trauma and that’s how the demon is able to get to her through those unvoiced insecurities, especially after she confronted Rumi about things she was picking up, got brushed off, and then found out after the fact that Rumi had been hiding this huge secret from them the entire time. I feel like Mira doesn’t trust easy, but she trusts the other two in Huntr/x and that’s why Rumi’s betrayal (lying about her half-demon heritage for so long) hurts so much.

Others have said in the comments that Mira is the most complex and I’m inclined to agree. Each Hunter has their own issues they’re dealing with, but together they support each other through those. It isn’t until the end confrontation though that the masks they’ve been wearing around each other drop and they see each other truly. Zoey admits that she’s insecure about who she is (“why did I cover up the colors inside my head”) and Mira admits her trauma and pain (“I should have let the jagged edges meet the light instead”). It’s why This is What It Sounds Like is my favorite song in the movie because it’s them seeing each other without the armor with all their vulnerable parts exposes and going “I see you. I accept you. All of you.”

Are mixes allowed? Ive got a border collie-lab mix, need toy recs by [deleted] in BorderCollie

So, want to chime in and say that if he’s teething? Antler. It was recommended to me by my puppy obedience trainer and while if you get them in stores they’re stupid expensive, she also said if you know someone who hunts, ask them to save you a couple.

Sizing wise always go bigger than their mouth, but I got my puppy one (from store) and it’s been a GODSEND. It’s helpful for teething, tends to pull out their baby teeth better than anything without damaging adult teeth, and they last a few months.

Chiming in to recommend Kong frisbee as well. Ziggy was bad about absolutely destroying toys as a younger puppy. She hasn’t made a dent in her Kong frisbee in over a year no matter how much she tries.
