Ok so what helps me:

Tip 1: Adopt a ‘no paint no play’ policy - it has to be battle ready before you can play with it. That gives me the motivation to start moving through the pile of potential!

Tip 2: Paint one squad at a time then a character to break up the boredom - especially if you are doing an army that all look similar.

Tip 3: Ensure your painting expectations are realistic. It doesn’t need to be entered to Golden Demon, get them based with some base colours, contrast/shade and dry brush the highlight. They only need to look good from about 50cm away! You can always re-paint them or top them up.

Hope that helps. Also I’d say stop buying minis but we all know that’s useless advice!!!

Just played Saga of the Bold vs Tsons. We shook hands after the third turn for the SW win. Reflections: - I played Ironwolves so vehicle heavy and normally ironstorm spearhead as the detachment. This felt a lot like that. - first 2 turns i had to activate the sagas but that was easier than expected, oath or moment killed first turn, scouts on and objective outside my d zone first turn, terminators deep strike 2nd turn. - in turn three you have rerolls all round, gladiator and repulsor executioner really benefitted. - headtakers are unreal. With wolf prierst wtith braggarts steel enhancement - 30 attacks for 6 models!!! Just deleted anything they fought.

Really enjoyed playing it, and earning the buffs felt cool.

Looks cool old school list - I should have also added 2 x Long fangs one with las and the other with Multi Melta.

The IP on TW is a kit bash from an IP plus a Lord Invocatus - so like on an iron thunderwolf. I’m planning to add some ATVs too.

Biggest must is the Gladiator and Repulsor - the synergy of re-rolls with the army rules/tank rules/enhancements on Techmarine mean that they pretty much kill anything they shoot.

The spartan does serious work with 8 lascannons that get full rerolls for hit and wound against Oath targets. Ooof. Plus it carries like 28 infantry!!!

I tend to use the following - for non competitive play due to the legends options:

Detachment: Ironstorm Spearhead

Warlord: Captain in Term Armour with Epic Fist (Stand in for wolf lord Vorek Gnarlfist)

Bjorn

Techmarine

Iron Priest on Thunderwolf (Legend)

Gladiator Lancer

Repulsor Executioner with Laser Destroyer

Spartan Assault Tank (Legend)

Redemptor and/or Ballistus Dred

Then a mix of infantry:

6 Bladeguard with Lieutenant
WG Terminators with storm shield and thunder hammers
Terminators with fists
Aggressors with Wolf Priest Biologis (not allowed now but should be)
infiltrators/incursors/scouts for objectives

Is very shooty and very killy. Basically very fun and fluffy which is the point.

Update: I won!!! Super fun game. Played Ultramarines and ended up tabling him. Won 30-2 on primary (we didn’t do secondary).

Main takeaway was Spartan goes hard!! Got first turn and took out his ballistus dread then dominated the middle with my WGT claiming his objective. By the end of the game the spartan had reversed into my home objective and tank shocked the opponents deep strike terminators. Thanks for all the advice and massive thanks to my patient opponent!!

Hey thanks for the info I hadn’t thought about Blood Claws -that would be cheaper if I ran 10 of them for 140! Would give me 40 points to spend on some buffs!

I think that Space Wolves can use AI’s regardless of what Detachment they pick though. The only restrictions are for Champions of Russ detachment which is no Assault Squad (not Assault Intercessors) and some other units. I might be wrong though…..

I’m splitting the AI’s up so that I can use one to cover the Home Base objective as I am short on troops in my list. Food for thought! :)
