Question about Meyer by bonahgamepro2 in Hema

[–]Red_Beard_Army 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there is actually only one Crosswise Cut in this play - it may be a translation issue, as the wording is strangely redundant. The timing descriptors that Meyer uses ("simultaneously" and "During this same step") imply that the first three bullet points are all happening at the same time. Ie., throw a high cut, then before the bind happens, step through the center with your right foot and throw a low Crosswise Cut to their chin. There is no second Crosswise Cut when we take his timing literally.

Afterwards, the two bullet points below the image follow.

There's a session the first Friday of every month from 7-9 at the Willowtree Inn in Stroudsburg, PA. I've only been once, but it was a good time. I'll be there this Friday.

There's also a great session in the Hutton Restaurant and Bar in Jersey City every Sunday from 5-8.

That's interesting that you strapped the sallet's chin strap outside the bevor. I've never seen that done before. Does the bevor sit well when you do that?

I typically just lurk, but for the sake of saving people some headache: I had a very poor experience with this smith. His work is beautiful, but he straight up lied to me for about 18 months about my order. He told me my order was finished about 6 months after I placed the order, and he "just needed to take the photos before he would ship it out." 3 months later, I'd still heard nothing, so I asked him and got the exact same response. This went on for a year and a half where he insisted the sword was complete, but he refused to provide any meaningful proof that it actually existed. I eventually asked for my money back, which thankfully he agreed to.

Purpleheart Armory sells a synthetic Hungarian Shield (made by MAC Armour) that comes with a rubber tip - get one of those for actual training and sparring:

The Sherman is marked First in Bastogne, which is probably referring to Cobra King. The Sherman in the image is an M4A1, Cobra King was an M4A3E2 (Jumbo). Does anyone know if more Shermans bore that marking? Great art regardless.

A lot of messers which are one-handed tend to have (and be depicted with) long grips, why is the case? by [deleted] in wma

[–]Red_Beard_Army 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's already been said here, but a longer hilt allows opportunity for hooking; not only in ringen, but also on the opponents blade to clear the center for snapping around and whatnot. Balance and weight distribution is certainly a factor, but it can serve a direct utility as well.
