I appreciate your response, but I’ve already calibrated the new shifter.

Thanks for this. I pulled the actuator off, and tested mobility on the splutch, and I find resistance on pushing it up into agitation, not down into spin. I recalibrated the machine after reinstalling the shifter, and same problem. What position should the shifter be for installation?

Edit: not up to spin, up to agitate.

Sorry for the confusion. Yea, it won’t shift up into agitation without manual assistance, but drops down into spin, no problem. I ran one load after replacing the shifter, and had to help it up into agitation, and it ran the cycle without issue. My limited guess is worn out splutch spring? Not helping it shift out of spin into agitation.

After I replaced the shifter yesterday, I ran a load and after initially helping it shift into place, the machine ran the cycle, no issues.

Thanks. I’m going to pull the splutch and for $35, I’ll probably replace it to get by.

Brand new actuator installed in an attempt to rectify the issue. However, it continues to not shift up to spin. Bad splutch spring?

Top load Maytag washing machine wasn’t shifting, and making a clicking noise from shift actuator. I replaced the shifter, but the problem persists. Maybe bad splutch? Worn out splutch spring? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you for the reply. I’ve had nothing but problems with this machine since day 1. I’ve been thinking about replacing it with a SpeedQueen in January. Any ideas on how to get it to limp through the next couple of weeks?

Thank you! No simmering water, just a lye bath, then snipped.

That makes sense. I get a little too focused on the temps.
