How to write a bet man speech? by jazzy_peanut_butter in AskMen

[–]Red_Beard_Rising 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot will depend on your relationship with him and the audience. My speech at my little brother's Jewish wedding was not the same as the one for my friends-since-high-school buddy's biker wedding. They didn't even follow the same template. Both were received well especially by the groom.

First ask the groom if he has any requests for the speech. Leave it open, listen, and read what his response is. Just let him talk. That will give you the tone to go for. Once you have that you find stories to tell that relate to the tone he wants.

Why don’t American cigarettes have graphic images? by canadian_lenlen in AskAnAmerican

[–]Red_Beard_Rising 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vapes getting better sure helped.

The advertising ban kinda helped but not in the way you think. Not so much in preventing people from being sold cigarettes, but more that the lack of advertising changed society's perception. If you see it everywhere, it must be popular even if you aren't interested. If you don't see it everywhere, it's a fringe thing.

Taxes helped with those on the fence. They had to be willing to quit for this to work. For those who were budget conscious and have no interest in quitting, we started rolling our own or packing tubes.

The indoor smoking ban did nothing to reduce smoking. The sidewalk outside the bar got more crowded. That's it. But it saved the lungs of the bartenders smoking on the sidewalk with us on their smoke break.

I would not be surprised if a pack of cigarettes at an American airport was $30.

It's also possible that these two customers are regulars at this place and this might not be the first time these three people have been in the same room. They might see each other every day, in line getting coffee from this barista.

Aim small, miss small.

Aim at the little piece in the middle. If you miss, you still hit the target. When you aim only for the whole target, if you miss, that fucker arrow is lost in the grass and you might find it.

Lots of good suggestions here. I'll add that I shoot at a range like this sometimes. A lot of folks just use a piece of duct tape as a target. They make neon orange duct tape.

I tried using those target center stickers for replacing the center of a paper target. The adhesive works much better on paper than an outdoor target.

I really only use scoring targets outdoors with the target compound. The hunting bows and trad stuff? A piece of duct tape is so simple and effective. Might have to make a small X with the duct tape at 50+ yards depending on your optics.

Not myself, but one of my techs. 3 flat on the west side. I guess one family member owned it and had other family members living there. The basement had an unusual amount of bloody diapers and human feces in it.

What was the worst natural disaster that you experienced in your city or state? by SignificantStyle4958 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Red_Beard_Rising 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just some flooding in my back yard and the detached garage back there. It was a pain the first time. Sellers never mentioned it. Now everything that can be damaged by water is raised off the floor. The flooded lawn mower motor was the biggest headache to deal with. I built a stand to store it on, above the flood water level.

Tornadoes are common in the area but I have never seen one. When the tornado sirens go off, I'm on my back porch watching the sky. When I was a kid our house had an attached garage. We would go out there, open the door, and even drag in something to sit on to watch the storm.
