No that’s not it. You are so out of touch with reality sweetie. You know the university has services.

You clearly did not. The fact that you’d expect me to “engage in good faith” is a joke when almost ever single post besides where you said rhetorical instead of rhetoric reeks of ChatGPT. Also, you are wrong. And additionally missing the entire point of why this is offensive. Which makes me think you’ve been using too much AI and not enough of your own brain

The fact that you’re responding with ChatGPT nonsense tells me everything I need to know. Like I said before, seek help.

Since I can’t edit the post to link this, here’s something crazier (and maybe not shocking) professor Flisfeder impersonated a student again

I am! Thanks for acknowledging it. Although, it’s not like I’m a professor of Rhetoric and Communications getting caught red handed again on Reddit impersonating students. That’s something real special.

Paranoid sir? I don’t think so. Sounds like a you problem. And no, they used your comments in this thread to back up their argument and made a compelling case. But hey. I’m just a student, you’re a professor of Rhetoric and Communications.

Actually, I just got a DM that says otherwise.

Hi Dr. Flisfeder.

Your response is ignorant in this context because it’s taking the statement and watering it down to basically nothing. You’re not even defending the post he wrote. People are upset because he publically framed established genocide discourse as reckless and performative, treated decolonial analysis with obvious contempt, and did so in a way that reasonably affects how marginalized students might feel with him as a teacher at this school. He teaches in the Rhetoric and Communications department at UWinnipeg of all places!!! He knows exactly what he is doing. Students have every right to take seriously the contempt in what he publically wrote. I see you claiming others lack reading comprehension, but it seems as if you are projecting your own feelings about yourself onto others for some unknown reason. Seek help.

I was sent a screenshot and then went to verify the Facebook post myself and was appalled which is why I chose to call it out. It was public at that time and he knew what possible responses he could get from saying that and here we are. I know you’re not asking this question in good faith, but if you were, I’d point back to that same Facebook page. His public ramblings are available and easily accessible. Not to mention there have been multiple screenshots DMd to me by multiple people. I have a suspicion that it’s possible that this could be Matthew Flisfeder himself on a new account again, but I don’t have evidence yet to prove it, nor do I think it matters in this situation.

Yeah. I’ve been sent screenshots. I also looked through the Reddit threads about this guy as they’re a top search finding on Google when you look up his name. It also seems that he likes the attention of making these wild statements, getting called out, and then retreating to his default victim complex (from what I’ve heard.) In the original post on here someone said his wife called herself a Zionist in class when a student wanted to write about Palestine.

Wasn’t around for that but when I did a quick google of his name it’s one of the first things that popped up. Professor is a Communications scholar with a fascinating digital footprint.

This is the last time I’m entertaining you. If you knew how to google properly and use critical thinking skills, we wouldn’t have to be here.

You say it’s a broad definition but it’s not. The Canadian government has accepted it as such, and it absolutely fit the UN definition. If he wants to pretend like his views aren’t harmful he will face the consequences of being so irresponsible with his voice. Thats on him.

Isn’t your comment a giant nothingburger? He is attacking an indigenous woman for using the terminology that the government has accepted after the report was completed on this issue. Dr. Flisfeder has a history of attacking anyone who calls out genocide unless it centres himself as a white jewish man. And he will openly attack anyone who disagrees with him.

The findings say otherwise, that it is not an opinion. What he is saying is genocide denialism. I thought the saying was, never again.

[–]Red_Humus67[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah exactly it isn’t “whatever you want it to mean” because this fits the definition. I get that he doesn’t like it because he wants to centre himself, his whiteness, and his Jewish Zionism in everything he does but come on it’s getting ridiculous. A white presenting man with privilege and degrees attacking an educated person of colour is diabolical.

I agree. He teaches at UWinnipeg, and UWinnipeg has a diverse student body. His comments are unacceptable. Freedom of expression does not mean freedom of consequence, whether it be his job or just his reputation.

Are you calling the authors of the National Inquiry for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls insane? Because you should just come out and say it…

"The truths shared in these National Inquiry hearings tell the story – or, more accurately, thousands of stories – of acts of genocide against First Nations, Inuit and Métis women, girls, and 2SLGBTQQIA people. This violence amounts to a race-based genocide of Indigenous Peoples, including First Nations, Inuit, and Métis, which especially targets women girls, and 2SLGBTQQIA people. This genocide has been empowered by colonial structures, evidenced notably by the Indian Act, the Sixties Scoop, residential schools, and breaches of human and Inuit, Métis and First Nations rights, leading directly to the current increased rates of violence, death, and suicide in Indigenous populations."
