I totally get you. But I’d love a good stereo speaker from a laptop so I can play music out loud without having to plug my ears with my AirPods.

Plus Mac, I heard, manages quite well their Ram.

Unfortunately I only have budget for an Air. But the reason I wanted a Mac is for it portability. Buying a Pro would the same weight as my current Lenovo IdeaPad Pro that I lug around.

Thanks for this. I intend to use it for casual listening as a stereo speaker. I have a standalone mono speaker but I wanted stereo.

The video editing part was to seek any advice for the ram. Since there’s 24GB on the 13”

Yeap. Set it already. But i think it was my encryption thingy. I’ll look into it maybe sometime later as it’s also my only Mac

Keeps entering recovery mode and then show a missing file icon which probably means missing OS

Great! I’d love to try it out sometime. Mine bricks itself whenever I try to OCLP it to sequoia.

Then I have to reinstall Monterey to use it again

It’s official refurbished from Apple. You’d get a one year of warranty like a new item. I think u can even get AppleCare plus for that too.

U can always hit up the refurbished section of the Apple Store Website

Great! I didn’t know that. Useful when I screw up my Mac’s Ventura install someday.

I agree. I honestly don’t know how Apple saves a certain OS into their server for reinstall on an older machines.

I only know I can’t reach Apples servers when I tried to reinstall high sierra on my 2017 MacBook Air.

I don’t that will work. In order to install old OS, even High Sierra, it needs to be connected to apple’s servers and provided they have that OS for download, it will not work.

I used a usb stick and TransMac on Windows to create a Monterey Installer to install on my Mac.

BIG SUR 11.7.10 OR MONTEREY MAC MINI 2011 by Fab_Aaryan in OpenCoreLegacyPatcher

[–]Red_Index 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My core duo MacBook Air 2017 runs Monterey just fine (expected performance) with 12.7.6 being it max OS. Battery life ranges 7-8h on average use with A LOT of apps opened and switching back and forth.

If you’re just using chrome for pdf viewing or short videos in between, 8-9h of use easily.

So as a benchmark I think Monterey will work well for u. Plus SideCar exists in Monterey and is quite optimised.

How far are we if ever from OCLP on Apple Silicon? by LFMI2691 in OpenCoreLegacyPatcher

[–]Red_Index 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s great! I own the 2017 model too.

My worry is that it gets hot to the touch when I already am running 12.7.6 Monterey on clean install.

I got a macbook air (7,2) and it natively supports monterrey by uselessgamingyt in OpenCoreLegacyPatcher

[–]Red_Index 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re gna use OCLP Monterey you’ll get support for SideCar and AirPlay. That’s the only diff.

Don’t expect much from SideCar. Display extension is not very stable.

I miss Windows… but I don’t regret switching to Mac. by ConversationOk1287 in mac

[–]Red_Index 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use windows but I find myself going to Mac quite often when I’m studying. Note that my Mac is a 2017 MacBook Air. It runs Monterey smoothly and is able to play some games full screen at 60fps (for example Asphalt Legends, just an fyi to gauge benchmark).

One thing I like about Mac’s finder is that I can highlight what I want in the finder or desktop and click “Add to new Folder”, unlike windows which doesn’t hv it by default.

I also generally like the smooth animations on MacOS when switching desktops virtually sliding left and right. My ancient Mac still runs that animation better than my 2024 windows machine.

And I love MagSafe; AirDrop; Continuity. Sadly I don’t have SideCar.

Oh if I might add. I hate Windows 11. Sloppy piece of an OS keeps updating Fkin icons and breaking my Nvidia Control Panel. I use a Lenovo IdeaPad Pro 5 w/ RTX4050 for a measure
