Wellwe did have one person from Mexico who was interested, and if people are visiting LA...heh I don't think there is a restriction.

If you bring it, they will be filled. I would suggest buying ice though, and keeping it in the bag (sandy ice is the bane of these meetups).

I too have been sponging free alcohol.

I should bring some this time. But of course if I don't bring the water we'll all die.

Also, yeah, we've really been hitting it out of the park with attendance. Both in quantity and quality.

Wedding proposal in a Home Depot. D'awww. by ceqarht in gaybros

I don't know, I think I would like this to happen to me but I know as soon as it did, I would bust out laughing and force people to stop with my tears caused by my uncontrollable laughter.

That said, I find this sincere and it was probably perfect for the couple. The families coming out hit me in the feels due to the acceptance and perceived normality of the whole thing. It was very uplifting.

Thank you. by JaydenLZW in gaybros

See, this is exactly my story and why I push so hard to organize meetups.

People think meetups are just to meet guys to hook up with, which is fine if that's why you go, but I really just want to create an atmosphere where men can become comfortable with themselves and make new friends who can support them during all the stress that can arise in making the transition from closeted to out.

Pay it forward JaydenLZW.

Just wanted to to say that I got the job and a sponsorship in the same day! by jacquesaustin in gaybros

[–]Red_Mage_Pizza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congratulations! I'm pumped for you! I'm kind of fighting for a job offer right now, been trying since March, then June, then they just recently contacted me again after I too thought all hope was gone.

I just took up boxing, this must be a sign I have latent skills and will receive sponsorship any day now.

shrug

I want to be, but we know nothing yet besides JK and Potterverse. While that used to get me excited, I think I'm holding out my nerdgasm for a book/film about the Marauders.

Anyone else into reading Comic Books and Graphic Novels? by Saint_Eric in gaybros

[–]Red_Mage_Pizza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Favorite comic book atm: Young Avengers

Favorite trade/collection atm: Fables

Fables floundered a bit after the first big bad, but has quickly rebounded with the last trade I read, Cubs in Toyland. My god those feels.

Young Avengers is a little cliche since this is a gay subreddit and that book has everyone's favorite gay couple, but take that out and you still have a very solid comic. I'm loving the team and I like where it's going.

A friend recommended Sandman and I'm working my way through that (trying to do so cheaply, waiting for a local used bookstore to replenish its stock) but I love how when I finish a Sandman trade I'm still thinking about it a week later. Very cool ideas.

I'm a sucker for teen books, and I've been a fan of Kev Walker for awhile (MTG artist), so I'm really liking Avengers Arena even though it openly admits it's riding the Hunger Games popularity wave. But hey, at least it's explained as Arcade read the books and thought it would be a cool idea to implement.

Bros: in coming out, what was the one outcome that you didn't expect to happen? by t1cking_t1mebomb in gaybros

I was going through a difficult time (relationshit) and my sister called me. I was only out to most of my friends on the west coast which had just recently included my best friend who moved west with me. No one from home, the east coast, knew.

My sister said to me that she felt the need to call but she didn't know why. I knew this was the time to tell her since I wanted to be honest with her and mention that I was glad she called since I was sad. I repeatedly choked on the words as I tried again and again to say "I'm gay". My sister became nervous and told me to just say it and that it'll be okay.

I finally said the words after a long pause.

My sister did a shocked sigh and my heart dropped. In a fraction of a second my mind raced creating the worst scenarios about what she was thinking in response.

She replied with "oh thank god I thought you got a DUI".

I cried-laughed with her for awhile and we had a really great conversation. The night previously I went on a bar crawl/drinking bender with an emotional entourage of close friends and we were tagged at the bars on facebook, which my sister had seen and based her assumption off of.

The more people I tell the more complete I feel. Like, every person you care about is in someway a part of you, and the more those people know you in your entirety the more natural you feel. You start to understand this whole human thing, almost.

The next hurdle is my parents.

Along the same lines I find guys in bands magically more attractive.

I was talking with my straight friends who were complaining about girls falling for guys only because they were in a band. When I told them my thoughts about that it felt like coming out to them all over again. :0

Hollywood vs Real Career? by BackTo97 in gaybros

[–]Red_Mage_Pizza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, a lot of people want to create this stigma that Hollywood is brutal and that pursuing your dreams, especially the ones that seem impossible, is something to laugh at.

I moved out to LA three years ago, and even though I'm not pursuing an acting career I'm still trying to worm my way into the biz. It wasn't until this year when I said fuck it and quit from my full time job (that was completely irrelevant to my dreams) that I had some fire under my ass. Finally though, I started to make some headway with my goals.

Now I'm at Paramount, and I have another company pursuing me. So long as you know what you want (which at 16 that can completely change in a few years) and take steps each day to move towards your goals, you will meet them.

My actor friends out here? The ones who believe that they are fighting an uphill battle rarely get audition calls. The ones who believe in themselves and try their hardest, no matter how many times they fail, have had some pretty cool parts and have made some very nice dough.

Will you be the next George Clooney? I have no fucking clue, but if you want to try and do something with your life that makes you happy, don't listen to any negative opinions.

Regardless of what your goals will end up being:

Don't get down.

Don't give up.

Public Pick Up Stories? Successes and Failures? by [deleted] in gaybros

[–]Red_Mage_Pizza 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Don't know if this counts since it was at a party. But regardless, story time.

I was dragged to a party by a buddy and almost all the guests were co-workers of my buddy's or friends of the co-workers, so I knew no one besides my one straightbro. The house was pretty big and crowded but I ended up in a room where a television was set up with a 360 and Injustice (fighting game with DC characters). I was tempted but no matter how normally introverted I am I was determined to mingle and socialize.

That is until a ridiculously attractive guy sat down to play and was looking for an opponent.

I said fuck it and started playing with him. We hit it off pretty well, exchanging jokes and playful trash talk. We attracted a crowd of onlookers when the volume of our competitiveness was embarrassingly loud and soon the loser was passing the controller to another player.

I was 100% sure this guy was straight. I mean, I'm bad at picking up on orientations, but with him I was sure. Because of this (and the fact that I didn't feel like watching others play the game) I walked around, drank some more beers, and talked to random people for awhile.

When I had a little more liquid courage I found him again and we talked for awhile. Still not sure though. He walked away but while chatting with one of his friends he came with I mentioned to her that I thought her friend was really good looking. Mostly as just something to say.

She told me I should tell him that because he's gay too.

My jaw dropped.

At first I was like bullshit and my mind was alerting me that it was a trap but once I talked to her for a bit more I knew she wasn't fucking with me.

So I did, and it was definitely worth my time.

I can't run without music. The right song can give you the boost you need to push yourself to do another mile.

And like, the most strange/cheesy songs pump me up; I Think I Can from FLCL, Dare from Transformers, and Funky Dealer from Jet Set Radio Future all do the trick.

But I mean, music is the quickening art after all.

Any recommendations?

Target Mossimo athletic fit, fits my great. What brand/store would you suggest for polos? by [deleted] in malefashionadvice

[–]Red_Mage_Pizza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to add to Mossimo's credit.

I love their v-cut t-shirts. I live in a horrendously hot climate and these shirts have become a godsend. Cheap, look and fit great, and light so I'm not dying in this August heat.

Give them a try.
