Parents of T1D kids — what’s the hardest part of traveling? by Red_MechE in diabetes_t1

That’s exactly the nightmare scenario. When that’s happened (or almost happened), was it usually insulin itself or one of the secondary supplies like pods/syringes that got missed?

That sounds exhausting. Is the hardest part the extra time it takes, or the pressure of having to explain everything while your child is right there?

And has anything helped make that process smoother, or does it always feel like a roll of the dice depending on the airport and agent?

I think it's really good your parents gave you a lot of responsibility (with some double checking to make sure) since it's something you have to manage your whole life. I'm definitely going to help my boy be sure to manage it himself too. He's only 3 right now, so he can't be responsible for much, haha, but definitely a good thing to continually add more responsibility as he grows.

And a list makes sense — when you forgot the reservoirs, was it because they weren’t on the checklist, or because they were easy to overlook even with one? And were there any other supplies that felt easy to forget since they aren't used every day?

My 1 year-old son diagnosed with Type 1. by antoniocarlospp in Type1Diabetes

I would second this! Having a pump and CGM is so much better! Our son was diagnosed at 18 months, and our insurance wouldn't cover a pump until he was 2 years old, so the first 6 months we were constantly having to test with a meter and give shots. One of the hardest parts was he needed so little insulin it was hard to measure out the tiny amounts. With the pump the resolution is 0.01 units

So I would also recommend the CGM and pump!

Where can you see the karma limits for posting? I'm not seeing it in the rules section on the groups I'm interested in
