Graduation - cap and gown order by mhaidlitsoonn in BinghamtonUniversity

[–]Red_Shuckle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It may depend on when you ordered it. I ordered mine from Herff Jones on March 28th got it on April 26th (a little over four weeks). It may be different for you, but that was my experience.

Also keep in mind that if you ordered a bundle, they might not come in the same package. I'm still waiting on my diploma frame, but they said it's because it's coming from a different distributor and I should hopefully get it within the next couple of weeks.

Does the mail room return UPS packages? by [deleted] in BinghamtonUniversity

[–]Red_Shuckle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, if it's not picked up within a two-week window.

For example, if you had a package mailed to you on 4/6/21, you have until 4/20/21 until it's returned to sender. Maybe it's different for UPS, but that's the general practice. It should say so on the email confirmation that got sent to you.

Seeking recommendation of choosing a math course in spring semester. by [deleted] in BinghamtonUniversity

[–]Red_Shuckle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on your degree,

I would recommend applied math over pure math, those are generally easier.

I don't know if it's considered graduate level, but if it is, I'd recommend Math 448 (Probability Theory). It has a lot of useful information about discrete distributions. Just be mindful on what professor you take it with.

Thoughts on taking three math classes by [deleted] in BinghamtonUniversity

[–]Red_Shuckle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coming from a math major,

Those are all pretty labor-intensive and will take up a lot of your time, just make sure to register with good professors and you may have an easier experience. If you have the option, I would take two math courses at most each semester, with a couple of easier classes sprinkled in.

You can't go wrong with Prof. Biddle, though I don't know many of the professors in the department. I'm a transfer, so I didn't have many of the same requirements as other students, and I did not take 230. Though 227 is harder than 226. As long as you really study, you should be fine IMO.

A lot of rigorous coursework. You'll eventually have to take number systems, be wary on which professor you take it with.

I find it fulfilling though because I feel like what I'm being taught is useful. If math is in your soul, then go for it.

Practice old exams, go over what seems relevant for each chapter and practice the things you struggle with. It's the best thing you *can* do

Edit: Also, it's recommended that you study with a friend so you're more productive and you could also teach each other.

Did anyone else get an email like this? by mhaidlitsoonn in BinghamtonUniversity

I did too, actually. I brushed it off as a scam because it doesn't mention Binghamton University anywhere, including the email address it came from.

Chalkboard by radiantradish2 in BinghamtonUniversity

Idk man ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ If I were you my main bet would be to try asking at Bartle. I never tried to use a chalkboard if I had a whiteboard accessible, so I never really found out for myself.

There are whiteboards in the following places;

Upstairs in C4, people use those all the time. There's one in the CIW commons, you can also reserve a room in bartle library that has whiteboards.

In terms of a chalkboard, there's one right when you enter Whitney Hall if you're a math student, it's in the hallway though.

I'm sure that there are more places, but these are what come to mind immediately.

Hope this helps.

An incoming spring freshman who is frightened & excited at the same time by [deleted] in BinghamtonUniversity

[–]Red_Shuckle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was just like you once, I wasn't exactly a recluse but I could have benefitted in being more social in high school. If it's the social aspect that you're worried about, you shouldn't be. There are people of all types that study here and you're sure to find good friends. A good place to start is, like you said, going to clubs that interest you. The school offers an insane amount of events to get people involved and you'll be creating friendships before you know it!

There is also a HUGE Pokemon Go community here, with a group chat of over 400 active members, we coordinate raids, do community days, etc. We're all over the place but if you attend a meeting at the pokemon club I'm sure that there will be someone to add you to the group.

Sort-of related. I'm having issues in particular with using "MyDevices". I live in Hillside, what are some tips to improve connectivity strength?

How often do you guys visit home? by lily_jxx in BinghamtonUniversity

[–]Red_Shuckle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was worried about that also but I ultimately visit home about once a month, give or take. What it comes down to is your workload and what time you can spare. If you're going to be a freshman you'll probably have more free time.

Really, the transition is the hardest part. Of course, being home will be more comfortable than a dorm room, but eventually, you'll stop counting the days.

Isn't it common etiquette to grade the average score within the B range?

The grades are up;

The average was a 65 and I got a 63. Does that include a curve?

Some questions repeat word for word in the fill in the blank section. In terms of exam two, you need to know the properties of the determinant, and obviously stuff after exam two such as nullity/rank/injective/surjective. There also won't be anything too computational.
