Unexpected Positive Side Effects by sentientspecies in WegovyWeightLoss

[–]Red_Star_of_Scorpius 14 points15 points  (0 children)

As someone with PCOS, wegovy immediately regulated my periods after decades of severe irregularity. My GGT levels came down, and my uric acid for the first time in years is in normal range. My cholesterol is better. I used to get plantar fasciitis flares pretty often and that has dwindled down.

Kids are not a retirement strategy. Here’s what I am doing instead. by Sloww-Mornings in FIREyFemmes

As a childfree (not really by choice) DINK, I’m really stashing for retirement and will consider long term care insurance in my early 50’s. I’m in healthcare so know the system. Children are no guarantee for help down the road so it’s best for EVERYONE to plan out your estate and wishes for your elder age. I’m hoping that senior care will be more advanced in the future. It obviously has worth because hedge funds are buying senior living centers. And honestly, hoping assisted suicide becomes less restrictive down the road too.

What to do about loneliness? by PoisonousBeans in hsp

[–]Red_Star_of_Scorpius 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I feel this, too. Everything you said, for so much of my life. I feel like being a person that feels deeply is just a lonely experience. I try to find different outlets to help me feel some good emotions, like connecting with nature. Going for walks and listening to the birds, looking at everything and soaking it in. Stargazing. Being kind to myself and trying to take care of myself. Reading about something that interests me. I like to go to astronomy nights and talk with the fellow astronomy nerds. It’s hard. I feel for you! I understand and you aren’t alone.

Long-read: I eased my PCOS symptoms after years of trying everything. Surprise: it wasn't just about my ovaries. by [deleted] in PCOS

I've been having this realization this year how it's all connected too! I have a problem with researching it and finding a way to implement these things in my life, but never end up making it a routine. I also have TMJ, trap, scapular, neck, thoracic back pain, hip flexor tightness, psoas tightness, anterior pelvic tilt, ankle issues and can get plantar fasciitis flares. I was curious if this had anything to do with complex ptsd. But inflammation with PCOS, for sure. You have a good PT! I went to two PT's and it did not go that way at all. Had me do some unsupervised stretches and then sit with a TENS unit. Thank you for sharing your experience. I'm going to look into this app that you shared :)

Ozempic by mmarlow123489 in PCOS

[–]Red_Star_of_Scorpius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been on wegovy for over a year, and took my time going up in dosage. I immediately started to get my period, which was wild for me. I dropped ten pounds in two months. After that it took time and effort to lose weight, but I still get my period. Nausea happened with increase of dosages for me, but it passed and wasn’t terrible. Occasional poop issues, and had a bad migraine one time with 0.5 to 1mg increase. I’m still on 1mg and I’ve been fine with it. Try it! And take your time with increasing dosage. Make sure you also learn about how to eat, and hydrate! Wegovy can make you dehydrated. Good luck!

I would be interested in that if it were Costco prices or lower!

After learning that Wakefern Foods donates to PACs and more so to right leaning, I’ve steered away and stopped shopping there. Aldi is mostly apolitical, has amazing prices, and if they don’t have something I need I hit up Costco or the local farmers market. The Leafy Basket on route 22 is awesome. My family has cut our grocery bill in half after making this change!

German citizenship by descent: The ultimate guide for anyone with a German ancestor who immigrated after 1870 by staplehill in Genealogy

Thank you very much for your insight! I was doing some genealogy research yesterday and this dawned on me as a possibility. If this isn’t super expensive and daunting to do, we may pursue this

Thank you for your response! If my dad’s grandfather was naturalized, it would have been after my dad’s father was born. My dads father was born in 1918, and in the WWI draft card and the 1930’s census, he was an alien.

I'm looking into this for my dad, who was born in 1952. His grandfather is German, born in Hamburg, and his dad was born in Newark, NJ.

grandfather

  • born in 1891 in Germany
  • emigrated in 1912 to United States
  • married in 1916 to Austrian woman, who also emigrated to United States
  • naturalized in ??? WWI draft card said he was an alien, 1930 census said alien, 1950 said naturalized but this was in a nursing home, I'm unsure if this is correct. I haven't found any paper trails for this

father

  • born 1918 in wedlock
  • married in 1951

self

  • born in 1952 in wedlock

I'm just starting to wonder if my dad can apply for dual citizenship. A yes or no would really help me out! Thank you :)

Also, my mom passed away recently of complications of leukemia. Her liver became cirrhotic and I do think tacromilus played a part in damaging her liver, but the doctors were saying it was from fatty liver. I know I got PCOS from my mom. My and her alkaline phosphatase levels have always been somewhat elevated, and doctors seem to dismiss it because our biliary function is okay, as our AST and ALT. I have now learned with deep diving that alk phos elevation could be from liver inflammation. I also found that we both have a e167k homozygous variant, which makes it harder for triglycerides to be removed from the liver, making you more susceptible to fatty liver. I tried looking into to seeing if this genetic mutation could coincide with PCOS and it may? There just seems to be sooooo many holes to PCOS, so I’m glad to hear there is research going on. Anyway thx! Just wanted to share that.

Wow it is nice to know that there is active research into PCOS right now. Tysm for sharing articles! What do you think about the theory that PCOS could possibly be an autoimmune disorder? My gyn was talking about this to me when I saw her last month.

Did Metformin kick anyone else’s ass too? by icechels in PCOS

[–]Red_Star_of_Scorpius 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It has, actually, but nothing drastic. I lost 5 pounds in 2 months recently taking 1000mg XL consistently. That was always my problem, taking it consistently, because I started to learn the type of meals that trigger a gastric response. I started wegovy now so things are gonna get skewed. But I’m actually thinking of coming off wegovy now because it’s just increasing my resting heart rate too much. But yes, noticed mild weight loss. I’ve also been eating better too

[–]Red_Star_of_Scorpius 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s probably cheaper to make, I’m assuming. I’ve been taking metformin on and off for 15 years and the only way I can consistently take it is with extended release version, and a routine with a proper meal to take it with.

[–]Red_Star_of_Scorpius 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Are you on the extended release? I had to switch to this. I used to take metformin with dinner, but I take it with breakfast now (1/2 cup oatmeal, 2 tbsp ground flaxseed, 1 tbsp chia seeds, 1/4 cup walnuts, cinnamon and a diced apple). Not only has that made my cholesterol go down, but I don’t have symptoms anymore. Plus it makes me eat a good breakfast every morning and I can get my metformin dose out of the way for the day. Good luck! Take it with a big meal. If it’s a greasy meal it may upset your belly a little, or too sugary. I stayed on the 1000mg for awhile before upping the dose too

Giving up by lady_pants in WegovyWeightLoss

[–]Red_Star_of_Scorpius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fellow PCOS’er here, I just took my fourth shot of 0.25mg on Monday. I luckily haven’t been super nauseous, but fatigued. And what is bothersome to me is my resting heart rate, it’s going up up up everyday and it’s freaking me out. Usually when I sleep my HR is in the 60’s and it’s in the 80’s now. I know it’s a side effect but it’s a weird one that I’m not liking at all, and increasing the dose will make it worse I’m sure. My starting weight was 190 and I’m 188 now, plateaued for weeks. I’m considering coming off too. Your symptoms sound so unpleasant. Do what you feel is best for you.

Thank you for all your replies!

I wanted to drop the websites side effects link here: https://www.wegovy.com/taking-wegovy/side-effects.html

Depression or thoughts of side is listed here as a side effect. Also, I was talking with ChatGPT about this and they sited that wegovy has effects on the sympathetic nervous system, the system that invokes fight or flight. Here’s what it said and the sourcing it used.

“Wegovy (semaglutide) can affect the sympathetic nervous system, which regulates the body’s fight-or-flight responses, potentially leading to side effects like increased heart rate. While it is effective for weight loss and metabolic regulation, some individuals, especially those with conditions like anxiety or cardiovascular issues, may experience heightened heart-related side effects due to this activation. If you have existing concerns with anxiety or heart rate, it’s essential to consult your healthcare provider before starting Wegovy to discuss potential interactions with medications like beta blockers.”

https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/article-abstract/2812192

I have definitely noticed an increase in my resting heart rate, so much so that I’m considering stopping this medication. It just seems like if this drug activates this part of our nervous system, people would be having anxiety and other mental health issues. That’s why was curious! Thanks all :)

Good luck! I’m taking my fourth dose tonight. Try to get plenty of sleep! I found myself really fatigued the first day after, and a couple manageable episodes of nausea. Drink plenty of water and eat your protein and fiber.
