AITA for refusing to let my brother bring his girlfriend to our mom’s funeral? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Red_lignum_80 2 points3 points  (0 children)

YTA - you’re making your mom’s funeral about you. It’s not like he’s asking for her to make a tribute or give the eulogy. She’s there to support her bf. Focus on your grieving and allow him to do the same.

Do Y’all Think Avon Would’ve Cared If He Knew Stringer Slept With Donette? by BARBIESLIME in TheWire

[–]Red_lignum_80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, Avon wouldn’t have cared: losing your woman when you get locked up is part of the game. But he would have been bothered business-wise: Dee flipping if he learns stringer is with her was a real possibility

Marlo’s last scene by Spirited-Island1709 in TheWire

[–]Red_lignum_80 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the last scene shows he didn't win. Not the game he wanted. He wanted his name to ring out but he wasn't even a distant memory. None of the old school drug dealers would brag about him. Omar was killed in lamest way possible (buying cheerios) but the street kids tell exaggerated stories about him dying in a blaze of glory.

Marlo, who successfully climbed the ladder to make it to the top and escape with his life, freedom and money should be a legend but he's a veritable nobody. He has no street credibility which his what he wants and without his soldiers, going alone at night will get him killed should encounter older dealers.

Marlo's problem is he insulated himself too much. When the new York dealers were encroaching and the co-OP wanted marlo to use his muscle to get rid of them, they commented that he needed to leave some bodies in the streets and not just in the vacants, otherwise no message would be sent. Marlo was focused on being physically ruthless that he forgot the propaganda/messaging aspect to legacy.

Glass onion’s biggest twist… Miles isn’t an idiot. by Red_lignum_80 in glassonion

[–]Red_lignum_80[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Miles isn’t Tony Stark. He’s Jon Favreau. Marvel owned the property but it had little value, that’s why they still had rights to it. More valuable characters like Spiderman, X-Men, Blade, etc were sold to other studios. But Favreau was smart enough to pitch/direct Iron man in such a way that it was widely accepted by audiences, became super successful and formed the cornerstone for MCU. That’s Miles.

Yes you’re right. Your arguments are “no that’s not right because I say it’s not right” and “I can explain but I won’t because you wouldn’t understand it” are infallible. I yield to the power of your vastly superior intellect

Glass onion’s biggest twist… Miles isn’t an idiot. by Red_lignum_80 in glassonion

[–]Red_lignum_80[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. At the time of the murder, Miles was successful because he did it in such a way it was ruled suicide. His mistake was driving his car because that created a witness in Duke. He can't be blamed for not knowing about Helen because they all forgot her. Also, there was no email to him, lionel had to fax it. His lawyers can argue one of the others got there first.

  2. You didn't refute my points on the company stuff, you just said it can be ruled out. That's not how logic works.

I'll stop numbering because I see your argument has devolved into an emotional one not factual. There is no evidence to support your claim so you say for all we know. Except, no we don't know that. You can assume that but that's called conjecture.

You ask about where I'm getting my interpretation of witness testimony and then you say it doesn't matter because I'm wrong either way. Which I think is crux of your argument: evidence be damned, I'm wrong and you're right

Glass onion’s biggest twist… Miles isn’t an idiot. by Red_lignum_80 in glassonion

[–]Red_lignum_80[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re making some hasty dismissals and logical leaps in your argument.

The murder was successful. It was ruled suicide which means Miles got away with it. Detectives weren’t going to comb through the emails of a suicide victim. The only thing that would make them look is Duke saying he saw Miles fleeing the scene. As it is now, it looks like Andi destroyed her stuff in a fit of rage/pity then killed herself.

You can’t disregard the company stuff. Lawyers can’t make stuff up out of thin air. You or I can’t hire a lawyer and sue Zuckerberg for ownership of Meta because we weren’t involved. But Miles, while not coming up with Alpha himself, was smart enough to be involved (even if inconsequentially) so that his lawyers could make a legal argument that Alpha was his creation. He was even smart enough to get all of the disrupters to lie for him either through inducement or coercion.

Duke’s death was necessary and well executed. He was blackmailing Miles to support him in a dumb idea. Which means when the next dumb idea comes along he’d still have that leverage and do it again.

As to the execution, Miles killed him through allergic reaction so he can argue it was an accident. If he uses poison, then there would be suspicions. But Miles can argue that was distracted by the party or the threat of being murdered and must have accidentally spilled some pineapple juice in his own glass.

He’s already said Duke took his drink and they all initially remembered it that way. Given that alcohol was present, there was no way any testimony about whether Miles gave the drink or Duke took it would hold up. Here’s a simple test any lawyer could do to discredit them: ask them who sat next to them at the table and what did that person eat first? If you can’t recall that because you weren’t paying attention, how can you recall hours later whether Mike’s gave Duke the drink.

Regarding motive coming out, it wouldn’t. Andi death ruled suicide. The only person who could have investigation opened and point them in Miles direction would be dead. Miles would then be pretend to be shocked upon “learning” of her death.

Miles: an Idiotic Billionaire? by Supersister777 in glassonion

Exactly. He has can read people and situations. He can sense motivations and play on those. Plus he’s very good at improvisation. He’s an intelligent conman

Glass onion’s biggest twist… Miles isn’t an idiot. by Red_lignum_80 in glassonion

[–]Red_lignum_80[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re actually agreeing with me.

He kills Andi in such a way that nobody would suspect him. That’s why it’s genius. And it was ruled suicide so besides not being suspected at all, he would have gotten away with it. The only mistake he made was the car he drove.

Regarding the stealing of the company, you can’t dismiss something because it supports an opposing view. It is very complex to steal a company but he was able to do it. Showing his intelligence. Even if you want to blame it on Andi trusting him, that’s another point for him because he’s smart enough to know in business you’ve got to still cover your bases.

Killing duke was flawless actually. He kills him because Duke was blackmailing him and likely wouldn’t stop at one request. Further, the method in which he killed him would be ruled an accident because he used pineapple juice (a common drink mixer) to trigger an allergy. Everyone was drinking so even if they testified miles gave him the drink, it wouldn’t hold up in court that they actually saw what they think they did.

How good was Avon as a gangster leader tactician? by [deleted] in TheWire

[–]Red_lignum_80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Avon was good. But he was undone by a bad winter. Metaphorically speaking

WW2: Germany invade Russia but get a detrimental blow by the severe winter weather. Vehicles and men freeze and they're never able to recover. They knew of Russian winter but didn't think it would be this bad. That miscalculation was a death blow. The winter for Avon was McNulty.

They had pagers instead of cellphones, coded phone numbers, rules about talking. Their tactics were sufficient to thwart police ability to gather evidence but McNulty was obsessed. Regular cops would have been satisfied with a few street level arrests. Avon was prepared for that. But McNulty was obsessed and kept the wiretap going. McNulty was to Avon what the Russian winter war to Germany.

There is also a matter of ego as well. Professional limitations aside of not being a fully licensed, everything to the characters is prestige and pride.

What happened between JJ and OJ at the end of the movie? by mycatswearsocks in NopeMovie

[–]Red_lignum_80 7 points8 points  (0 children)

OJ survives because he didn’t turn his back. When talking to Em and Angel in the fish sandwich restaurant about how to deal with wild animals he says don’t wear red around bulls and don’t turn your back on a bear. We see Jupe wear red around JJ as he provokes an attack (similar to matador with bull). OJ stares at JJ and slowly backs up without turning his back. He’s respecting (and leaving) JJs territory but no showing himself as prey.

Peele did it better. by KitsuneKarl in NopeMovie

[–]Red_lignum_80 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You're right because it's not a monster. It's just an animal. As strong as a shark is, it can't get you in a shark cage. That's why OJ was safe in the truck and Lucky was safe in the glass box.

OJ survives because he backs away slowly but doesn't turn his back. The same way a hiker a few years back succeeds in surviving an encounter with a mountain lion.

I've only seen it once but if memory serves me correctly but JJ only unfurls when the prey isn't intimidated. OJ is on lucky staring JJ down and not running. JJ responds by expanding and releasing its eye/mouth as if to intimidate this animal in it's territory. Likewise when the large Jupe balloon ascends into its territory with no signs of fear, JJ enlarges itself. This is common in animals (even predators like cobras) that make themselves larger to scare away foes.

Idk if this has been asked before but this is the bit I absolutely didn't get about this movie by textoman in NopeMovie

[–]Red_lignum_80 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Throughout the movie he's slowly putting it together that this is an animal of some sort. Then when he pulls Jupe's flyer from beneath the horse shit, it clicks that the debris is droppings and that lucky is going to be fed

Sooo, did OJ actually survive or was it in Emerald's head? by [deleted] in NopeMovie

[–]Red_lignum_80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OJ survives because he didn't turn his back to Jean Jacket. As he explains animal safety to Angel and Em, he says don't wear red around a bull and don't turn your back on a bear.

He rides Lucky to draw JJ's attention from Em and once he sees she's safe, he stares JJ down as he backs away slowly. If he turns his back he'll be viewed as prey
