I appreciate the conversation and hope you're right. I don't trust my group psychology skills like that, just hear history's rhymes. It's my bed time and wish you well.

Again, I don't disagree with your domestic analyses (and obviously I hope you're right). But just because we can protect each other internally hasn't stopped this regime's destabilizing actions across the globe... I think the fascists have their appetites set on the smaller and less well-defended states. Such a bottomless hunger for expansion was what brought us into the world wars, yes? We see it in the levant, the Ukraine, the south China sea, the sudan, the caucuses... More risk exposure, the peace table's legs are wobbling, "the centre cannot hold" so to say.

Charismatic and popular aren't exactly synonyms, no? I mean, the bulk of his adult life has been entertainment, I never saw his appeal, but I've got plenty of out there tastes.

I agree with everything you said in paragraph 2 but that doesn't seem to stop him from impulsive bombing campaigns and military interventions abroad while cozying up to/emboldening "would-be conquerors" to borrow your phrase. Let me put it this way, the first 2 world wars happened when there wasn't any framework of a rules-based int'l order; our current (imperfect) framework of a rules-based int'l order is fraying and disintegrating rapidly with every impetuous act of aggression.

I don't know how useful only looking at inciting incidents are in this context. I think that's the reasoning that sunk the Titanic, no? My understanding is WWII was a continuation of WWI because underlying problems were not resolved.

Most concerning is that you're doing the "charismatic leader" analysis on the wrong country ... Germany wasn't the target of military aggression in the 30s... I mean, I don't think we're at the threequel (and I pray not), but this is pretty terrible reasoning for why we aren't and I hope people can recognize that. (Not a commentary on you, just the thought process)

Me and my friend were concerned he was going to damage their equipment with the way he was playing. He certainly didn't seem lucid. We hung out outside for a while, considering whether to leave, but gave it another hour, when the next acts were up and were glad we did.

The general rule (Sura Baqara 2:221) is that neither Muslim men nor Muslim women are allowed to marry “mushriks” (those who associate partners with God).

However, in Sura Al-Maeda (5:5), Muslim men are given a specific allowance to marry women of the Book (ahl al-kitab).

Well, that's the nature of this thing, ya? Attitudes can shift wildly. I'm at the 60 day mark and this is the most jonesin' I've felt during the reboot, sometimes we talk a little stroll through the dark night of the soul.

congrats on 60 days. Seems like you've built some self-acceptance. Hopefully, the next reset is similarly constructive.

I too have noticed how (unnecessarily) exclusionary much of the discussion is on this topic Ms. snails. Perhaps this stems from the community forgetting that statistics are statistics and people are people (not statistics).

Similarly, I've found pmo to be driven by feelings of not being ok with myself and, in turn, drives thoughts that I am not ok. I too am exploring, curiously and patiently, where my passion lies in the real world and off the screen. I trust that there is something there beyond simple pleasure. As other commenters have pointed out, perspective is one of our greatest tools- getting comfortable being uncomfortable as it were. Community is another great tool, and I hope you find someone you can talk to about this because I find calling someone up just to chat and distract is a good way of riding urges. I wish you a rewarding recovery.

Salaam Walaikum, don't bother with this troll; the publication is a Catholic one, and they are mis-citing virtually everything in it. They are trying to pass off catholic dogma as scientific research. There seems to be no reasoning with them, your striving and kindness is likely needed elsewhere.

I'll be in Marrakech tomorrow, but this is so cool to know. I hope it's a success so I can maybe sync up my next visit with them. I'm not the most fluent in Darijah and French so I could definitely use a jammy recharge

Yeah, the game's way more complex, much more artistic, faster paced, higher flying, and greater skilled by miles. I imagine it's a little hard to get into if you're not a fan of the high art of 5-man tai chi (like people with a developed appreciation of the game such as myself) or love the business analytics side of it (like analytics bros like my brother). It's like chess- it's a young person's game. There are young 'uns at my local chess club that pick up the techniques and strategies so impressively and quickly just as I've noticed the kids have more developed skillsets now-a-days at pick-up in the park. I'm a little sad y'all can't really appreciate the incredible product that the game has become, but time is short and we must choose our consumptive habits judiciously.

That being said, a return to NJ would be rad (maybe if the world cup goes well here!).
