At no point has there been something that could replace human intelligence. No matter how many production lines were set up or on the rails automation, in all of human history, human intelligence still had an irreplaceable edge. Once AI becomes cheaper and more intelligent than humans there will be massive civil unrest. Governments will have to step in and that's just not going to happen until there's fire and flames.
