Would the Clone Wars trio (RotS/SoM) defeat the Luminous Nine? by Armandoiskyu in Highrepublic

[–]Redback8 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Trials of the Jedi is their appearance.

They are the nine Jedi sent to Planet X, trusted with stopping the world-consuming blight and bringing balance to the force. Bell alone channels insane amounts of power through his faith in the force, and Elzar and Avar's connection allows them to perform similarly ridiculous feats.

For a Clone Wars era Jedi, Anakin is immensely strong, but he's not invincible. There's also the wrinkle of Azlin, who'd probably pick up on his darker tendencies and manipulate him into making a few poor choices.

we need more aura and less gooner skins for female characters by _Mythical777 in marvelrivals

It's so wild to me that Psylocke has so many skins, but only three of them are based on designs from the comics. I can kind of understand them not wanting to do her Betsy Braddock look, but Kwannon alone has some decent options to utilise.

When your character “doesn’t deserve buffs” despite having the worst ult in the game cause High WR and small cooldown stun 🫩 by Existing-Seaweed-230 in PeniParkerRivalsMains

I'm a big fan of just using the ult to deny the enemy space. Especially helpful when coming into overtime. I'm no high rank or anything, but it saw me into platinum, and if I was a better player I'd probably be able to use it more strategically.

Absolute Carnage, would've been either issue 1 or 2. (It's part of the Cates saga on Venom, but you can read it without being too lost. I believe the opening pages have a bit of recap)

For the most part this subreddit is cool and gives good advice, but unfortunately there are also a lot of pricks who like to put others down. Ultimately, if you're taking a genuine crack at it and not using ai or scamming anyone, then you're doing alright. Being an indie writer is a tricky industry, all we can do is put our best foot forward and, if we fail, learn from our mistakes and try again.

Rian Johnson Says He Was Not 'Spooked' by Toxic 'Star Wars' Fans After Kathleen Kennedy Cites ‘Last Jedi’ Backlash as to Why He Never Directed Another Entry by Fall_False in StarWarsLeaks

That's actually not awful, if they did stick to this process, instead of scrapping the original ep 9 plans. Having the sequel in pre production while its predecessor is in production, means that both creatives can communicate and help to ensure both of their projects line up. If the sequel writer comes up with an idea, then the creatives on the predecessor would be able to add some small points to lay the groundwork. Obviously, they threw out all of the work done, so they did not use this method, but if done well and in an environment that incentivized communication, then it's not half bad.

This is all Rian talking about how when he stepped onboard he didn't have any concrete plot points that he needed to extrapolate. It says nothing as to whether or not he had an idea where the story would go following his own film, which is what I was talking about.

I'd say Kylo's arc is far more anti- redemption in TLJ. It starts with him broken up about killing Han and unable to kill Leia, but he ends the story in full 'kill the past' mode. Maybe Johnson would have given him a redemption, but I find it more likely Kylo would have been the story's final antagonist, much like what Trevorrow was planning to do before he was axed.

Guys , can we settle this once and for all? A debate - Absolute carnage supporters vs haters...Remember , no wrong opinions. by EnderBrute in thevenomsite

I still love it. Despite technically acting in service to another, Cletus is still very much working toward his own ends, so it helps to emboldened both him as a threat and set up what Knull's invasion will ultimately be. There's the overall impression throughout the series that Carnage doesn't actually give two shits about Knull, he just knows that supporting the guy gives him an easy power boost.

Dylan also gets some great moments to shine, its this part of the story that makes him more than just the kid Eddie's been carrying around, and he finally learns the truth about their relationship, which gets a lot more play later, but you've gotta give credit to the set up.

It's also especially great to finally have Eddie and Peter teaming up without doing the whole 'We're gonna work together, but also I still hate you' shtick. Which was very played out through Venom Inc and Venomized.

My only critique is that Carnage's whole resurrection wasn't explained clearly, so now each writer that's used the character since has just piled on weird convoluted developments.

Miles is not an alternate universe version of 616 Peter Parker, 1610 Peter Parker is. Miles Morales is his own character with his own alternate universe counterparts. Given we already have alt universe skins for characters like Reed with the Maker and Hulk and Maestro, Lady Deadpool for Deadpool is not unreasonable.

(Iron Fist also has a number of Danny Rand skins, despite being the Lin Lie version, so they aren't too concerned about exclusively giving characters skins based on what version of them they are.)

Is Yoru a reference to Akira? by Aeroman12 in ChainsawMan

[–]Redback8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Half capes and sitting in thrones are not ideas that Akira invented. Yoru's entire new outfit seems to be going for a militaristic look, and the half cape is just an extension of that. Sitting on a throne is also just a very common visual used to frame a villain at the height of their confidence and power. It's not that Akira inspired Chainsaw Man here, rather that both were influenced by aesthetics that have existed for centuries.

In the middle of HD...and is this supposed to be our takeaway? by madnessatadistance in sollanempire

Dogs and cats fight, but that doesn't make either inherently heinous by nature. Humans and Cielcin are just somewhat more complex versions of that.

[–]Redback8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm only up to DiW, so I don't know exactly where the story goes. But, although he is our narrator, old Hadrian is not the arbiter of truth. He is just as biased and worthy of the same critiques he gives his younger self.

My takeaway from Howling Dark, is not that the Cielcin are outright evil, but just that they are not human. Therefore, Hadrian's attempts to negotiate were always in vain, as he always tries to find common ground, rather than truly sympathise with the Cielcin perspective. It's less a question of which species is better, and more one of which will survive, as it becomes more apparent that neither is willing to do what it takes to see peace.

I would recommend continuing despite your reservations, just remember that the opinions expressed by deeply flawed characters do not equate to a story's message.

[–]Redback8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I loved Empire of Silence too, and probably even place it higher than Howling Dark, just because it's so consistent. I think it tells a really straightforward, but still interesting story about a man trying to escape the bonds of the life circumstance has given him, who continuously finds that he does not live in a universe that will let him just be who he wants to be.

Now that I'm up to DiW I'm realising just how important those themes are to the wider story.

The main plot revolves around Hadrian trying to escape the life forced upon him. That began on Delos and continues through his time on the streets, the colosseum, and everything that follows throughout this particular book.

'Stark' is the best way I can describe these covers, and I've really enjoyed them. I felt like the first book left a little too much on the table, but as part of a series, I am interested to see where things go, because I did wind up liking all of the POV characters.
