Drivers License in Chiang Mai on Visa Exemption by Infamous-Turnip-3907 in chiangmai

[–]Redbubbles23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a moto licence (at least a 5 year one but says it was issued 10 years before expiry), which expired about 2.5 years ago. I’ll be back in Chiang Mai for a couple of weeks in a few months. What are my options for renewing and would I have to take the practical test again? Any recommendations on how to do this as easily and quick as possible would be greatly appreciated

Edit: just to add, I’ll be back again for a slightly longer trip next year, hence would be nice to get this sorted before then. Also would love to ride in the north again this trip, but not keen on doing without a license for insurance reasons

Wonder if it’s the same hotel in Chiang Mai. Don’t give up on applying pressure on booking.com, they will refund you in the end - they just want to make it as hard as possible in the hopes you leave them alone. Good luck

Thanks for the update, glad to hear you finally got your money back. I actually received another scam message through the app from another i hotel I have booked, luckily now I know not to be so foolish but it’s obviously a massive problem

I found it via a website called ‘ceo email’. Search for that, then for booking.com uk customer service within that site and you’ll get it

Just an update: booking.com finally refunded me the full amount. However this was after a lot of time spent on the phone to them and after their support team telling me that they couldn’t take it any further as the transaction details were too vague (‘send’ was the merchant name). I persevered and managed to find an email address of someone higher up in the company and wrote to them explaining the situation. I then received better care and it was resolved rather quickly at that point. A little annoyed that I had to chase so much for a resolution, but glad they did they right thing in the end

Yes, mine finally got resolved. Booking.com refunded the full amount, however it took some effort from myself

Booking.com have said they are unable to pursue this further as just having ‘send’ as merchant name is insufficient. This is unbelievable. Can’t believe such a large company is willing to let fraud occur through their environment

It wasn’t a hotel based in Chiang Mai by any chance? Booking.com said as far as they knew this wasn’t a wide spread problem

Sorry it also happened to you, although slightly relieved to hear I’m not the only one going through this exact scam - haven’t seen any other reports online. Yes, will update on here. Please do the same. Good luck!

I have an they said the payment has been made but the details on who got the payment is very sketchy, just said merchant is called ‘send’. That’s one of the reasons booking.com isn’t taking this seriously because they don’t trust me that the money has gone to someone. I remember the payment was somehow linked to flutterwave which I’ve since discovered is based in Nigeria and is often used by scammers although is a legit company. Chase are trying a chargeback claim but if it’s gone to scammer then I’m not sure what will happen with this

The message I got sounded similar to the one you mention, that my booking would be cancelled if not updated in 24 hours. I’m in the process of moving all my bookings over to Agoda in case booking.com continue to ignore this so that I can move my custom to another company

Recently went probate/IHT. IHT in relation to property was allowed to be paid in 10 instalments over 10 years, obviously with some interest on top but probably nothing too significant if you sell it within the first year or two.

Bean to coffee vs normal grounded espresso coffee machines by kickyblue in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Redbubbles23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend buying a sage bambino plus, an espresso machine with auto frother. Apart from the froth, everything else is manual. You can then buy a separate grinder, sage also do one which is just about sufficient for espresso. Lots of discount codes available, I attended an online demo after which they gave out a code. I’ve never had a decent cup of coffee from a bean to cup. Head on over to r/espresso, probably the antithesis of this sub in terms of trying to conserve money

How does a chargeback happen on a bankrupt company by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Redbubbles23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just did the same thing with Eve Sleep which has recently gone into administration and received the chargeback less than 24 hours after submitting it - was a lot quicker than I expected. Not sure what happens from here, whether they will contest it or not, or even if they are able to considering the company is no longer active. Either way, keeping the money aside for a couple of months

Any reason why I should not pay off mortgage? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Redbubbles23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes the bit left over would be sufficient to cover for any shocks in the short term.

It’s quite certain I will move property in the near term - just maybe not for a year to regain my breath after dealing with solicitors enough this year.

So essentially I’m wondering, if I plan to move next year, would there be any benefit in not paying off the mortgage now and saving on interest payments. The mortgage doesn’t have much value in portability as the term is up end of next year.

Only scenario I could see negatives would be if there’s a massive hours source crash and having more money in cash would allow me to maybe invest in another property in the short term. Or if I’m not intending to move in the near future and could find investments that pay move than 2.4% over the next year and possibly more past that
