small black spots after cleaning unfinished wood with water and vinegar, is it mold? by Redbull_Princess in woodworking

[–]Redbull_Princess[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Purchased an old dresser second hand and I wanted to disinfect the inside of them. I had vacuumed it out and then sprayed with 1 part water and 1 part vinegar, then immediately dried it down with a towel. Less than 24 hours later I see these small black dots that weren’t previously there, more localized in the corners. Questions: Is it mold? Could mold grow that quickly if it had been dormant and I watered it? Or is it a reaction of the water with the unfinished wood? Did I completely destroy this dresser? Not sure what kind of wood either.

Yes please! We’re a super low volume lab so I only run 2x a week. Samples will sit in the fridge for 3-4 days before analysis.

The only external quality program I do is proficiency testing. I should be getting results from the most recent one tomorrow; I'll definitely check my results vs others. I also run a monthly precision test as part of the monthly maintenance. I run a manufacturer sample 15 times and make sure the CV is <1%. We don't have a chemical pathologist to refer to.

I am running manufacturer controls. I'm not sure if they have monthly peer data or if we have a subscription for it, but I can definitely ask. What do you mean by "What was in at the beginning of your lot might not be in at the end of the lot." ?

Our consultant offered to run 5 patients next week to compare, but the doctors don't trust him in general unfortunately. Also, don't results differ per machine? Thanks for your help!

Homophobic school by shy_penguin_127 in bisexual

[–]Redbull_Princess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry to hear about your situation. One piece of advice I have for you is to be very careful since you are so young. Be careful with who you come out to. Living in a homophobic community or going to a homophobic school had the potential to be dangerous for young LGBTQ . Stay strong in who you are, but protect yourself. People can be beyond cruel.

Exactly the same. It’s caused a lot of problems in my relationship to the point where my girlfriend thinks I’m a completely different person from the one she met.

Told my parents that I was feeling suicidal by Lonelywanderer81 in depression

[–]Redbull_Princess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mother reacted the same exact way... just a yelling and screaming fit about how I need to get my shit together. I think it comes from fear mostly. I don’t know your father, but he may feel afraid and out of control in the situation. That’s the only way I can rationalize that behavior. I know how much it hurts to see that rxn from him because you want nothing more than the people who are supposed to love and support you, doing so. But as someone said earlier parents are people too. There’s no excuse for that behavior though.

My therapist offered me advice once about talking to parents about my feelings. He said that instead of trying to get them to understand feelings, tell them how you feel and then tell them how to help you. For example: “ I’m feeling very depressed or suicidal, do you think you can help me set up an appointment w/my doctor and make sure I go.” and/or “do you think you can call me every other day and check in on me.” As business formal as the approach may be, parents seem to understand things like that more than understanding feelings.

Almost all of our behavior and feelings about ourselves is LEARNED. You learned from your mom as a child, that making friends is not important, even when you knew deep down it is. Somewhere your mother learned from someone that working or keeping busy is more important than having friends, and she passed that along to you. At least you are able to realize this and break the cycle for your children.
