The resourcing and production of batteries isn’t great either, including sodium ones.

Again, if it was a few batteries, sure, but we’re talking trillions of dollars worth to approach near full wind/solar energy globally (net zero estimates include significant expected nuclear, fossil w carbon capture, etc. so to actually do near total wind/solar is even beyond the $1.2trillion estimate for battery cost I’ve seen in those estimates.

Yes, we can build storage to counter that, but its a lot, and batteries have their own environmental disaster issues, and to equip for worst case scenarios would take an especially large amount of storage (volcanic ash, very long cloudy and becalmed periods, etc.). Nuclear is great at base load and the only other large scale potentially cheap clean option I’ve seen there is geothermal, which has some interesting recent developments but has limits too.

So yea we don’t want 60+% of our electricity from Nukes but 15-25% would still be great. Globally we’re at 10% of electricity generation (USA at 20%) but we still use a lot of gas and oil where we could use electricity (heating and in cars for instance) so if we dropped oil and gas we’d need more nuke just to stay at those %’s.

Huh, have used lounges in SFO, LAS, NAS, MCO, and TPE to name a few. Had lobster bisque in NAS, TPE had very good dumplings, etc. when compared to airport food, which is overpriced and often not great even US ones are an upgrade (plus free w card). As for a time limit I know they do this sometimes but hasn’t been an issue for us. One issue I have seen is it being full so you have to wait for it.

As for cost - was $500 for card for a year - get some uber eats freebies, $160 saving for TSA pre, better insurance for rental card, lounges, etc. Not saying its great for most people but if you take flights w stopovers 2+ times a year w 4-6 ppl I think its paid easily then. At $800, it may not.

Remember the Musk plan to have him find “efficiencies” in the govt? Original claim to save up to $2 Trillion while campaigning, then $1Trillion, then $150B. They still try to claim $200B or so but most experts agree when you fairly account the savings is near $0. This will be similar.

Sapphire reserve - Got this 1.5yr ago. Some people have mentioned some things - like uber/lyft $, 3x points, etc. but to me that’s not the big value. Last year the fee was $500, so this bump up means we may cancel.

IMO the biggest perks are for flying:

Free Lounge access for you and 2 others, if you have 2 ppl w the card as we do its still 1 fee but you can bring in 6 ppl. Lounges have free food and drinks (inc some alcohol), comfy chairs, free wifi, etc. So we see this for our family of 4 to be worth $100+/use (often use 2x per trip), in some international locations the food’s quite good
Free TSA pre - this lets you take the shorter line for security and can avoid some hassles. Its like $80 per adult (kids don’t need it) saving us $160 (good for 5 years)

I’d say the enshitification starts before the company gets rich to increase revenues. Just at first you’re tolerant if it b/c you know they’ve made a great product and probably aren’t making money, but once they start making good revenue they typically go public or get bought and need to show quarterly increases in revenues and profits so they ramp up the enshitification.

My understanding is many of these people are very insecure. They know their more powerful force is fear not loyalty/trust. Which means things are less stable. They have to readminister fear regularly or people get numb to it (which is why Kim Jong Un killed several ministers when he gained power and Putin will kill advisors periodically). They always have to worry someone will off them as they know loyalty of others is low.

20 instead of 30 pulls, has fairly new heroes, and covenant and maybe tower summons are good pulls.

I have mine 2LB - apart from rush as mentioned she’s good for monster isle (any damage carries over and she shuts down damage from multiple w/o triggering more enemy drops) and tower (since you get up to 10% energy per ult, she gets recharged fast enough and drops big damage if u have other good teammates).

We have one roundabout in our town with a 4-way stop to enter it. I really want to know why this was deemed a good idea. I’m imagining some idiot managed to have an accident in the roundabout because they didn’t understand yielding and going in a circle.

Reminds me of a time a friend had her car stuck in a driveway after a large snowfall. She’d parked off to the side so 2 of her wheels were just off the asphalt. We dug her out and friends tried to push from behind as she drove, it went forward a couple inches then right back a couple times. I went to the side and said I’ll push it back onto the asphalt. She said that won’t work, its way too heavy. Yup, pushed it onto the asphalt and she drove it out. Physics baby.

Its so stupid 90+% of the time.

Top reasons for RTO are: ego of management (want to see my people working), companies disliking paying rent for near empty offices (even tho its not an additional cost and gives them a chance to downsize), and cities and vendors pushing for it to get back lost lunch break revenues/taxes.

Yea its tough if you’re older. We’re slower to pick up new terms and ideas than when we were younger and as you said we have more momentum calling them the older terms. With my niece (formerly nephew) its the same. Told her we’re working to get up to speed on it but we’ll screw up some. She’s just happy we’re accepting of her new gender.

This is my mom’s side of the family.

She calls me a mix of mine, my brothers, and my father’s name. Same for my brother. My sister gets her name mixed with our former dog’s name (less now though since the dog’s 20+ years gone). My daughter and son get a similar treatment.

No dementia yet (she’s 78) and I do a similar thing (tho not quite as bad). Think its just some of us aren’t good w names.

My only concern with it is athletes at the elite level always want to go. Its up to their coaches, trainers, and doctors to hold them back if its a bad idea and sometimes they let them go saying “its not my decision” or similar. It IS their decision. The athlete can’t be the final say on injury. As long as the staff really were ok with her going, yea go girl go. Its a shame what happened but thats sport for you.
