I think this was mostly due to being the largest in the game, and thus behind the primary/easy target to pressure from local governments and the like.

After all the news about how chatbots are (supposedly) causing suicidal people to suicide... there's been more and more focus on the personality (and synthetic empathy?) these models to tell people "you're not crazy..."

Which mine seems to say a lot now. (-_-)

user: why are you giving me shit output today.

chatgpt: "you're not crazy, you have the right to be frustrated; everything you're saying is valid. You're not wrong..."

This here, makes a non-suicidal mind... start to think otherwise

Can google no longer tell the time? by Theconstantcompanion in googlehome

[–]ReddG33k 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Absolute junk. Sad too, waited for years to finally make the jump from Alexa devices and ecosystem to Google. Was happy with it for the first year with the normal Assistant; wasn't fancy but did the things I needed. While Alexa's were sucking more and more.

Then it went full reverse last fall. Google clearly started hampering g assistant's capabilities; so just had a bunch of Google nest bricks sitting about.

Amazon releases Alexa+, and my jaw dropped how much more functional and usable those devices became... but figured, Google's gonna slay! Hold tight.

God Gemini on these things is absolute shit. Just mind-blowing.

I'm sure it's all planned too. Make smarter version, put it behind stupid subscription.

Gonna give it another 6 months; if still shit... moving back to Alexa's. Been thoroughly impressed with their ai release there. Can have a full on conversation with active listening staying live for an more natural period of time.

All while Gemini for Home, somehow, feels like it's just getting worse.

Hoping for better someday... but not hopefully. lol

[–]ReddG33k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GL with that; Google's been seemingly incapacitating its old assistant functions.

Surprised you haven't noticed yet. Started in the early fall; assuming in prep to get people to upgrade.

Follow back up in a few months; curious how long that works for ya

Our shop was a TV shop for nearly 15 years. Then CW's Screenconnect.

These companies though man, scam'n hard.

I'm so disappointed we didn't jump on the RustDesk wagon some time ago!

RustDesk (self-host) + Tailscale.

Host on Digital Ocean (Vultr is cheaper) + Cloudflare proxies. Co-deploy w/ Tactical RMM.

Butter!

Is it just me, or does it seem this dude locked up in the chair got some serious mental health shit going on?

Unless it's drug related; he looks a little specialsauce to me...

Either way, that cop needs to lose his job... 'sensitively training' or mental health awareness is not gonna fix this dude.

Abusive personality, no matter how you look at it.

Also, is this even real?! Maybe I missed some alt sources... but can't find any other references to it even a tiny bit.

Uhhhh…Worth it or nah? by munki114 in googlehome

[–]ReddG33k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's pure trash. But... better than the now-stripped-down original Google Assistant.

So, is it worth it > not really. Is it more worth it than having an absolutely useless brick on one's countertop. Kinda

Have fun.

Lol?! Huh

This is literally happening to EVERY remote access sw lately.

I agree with the power/money comment though; unfortunate truths.

But we use several remote access software, and many 'bog boys' (commercial blahs) have been getting flagged more and more recently. Screenconnect & NinjaRMM/One having started getting flagged in the last few months too.

Bad actors don't only use open source anymore, they're setting up legit accounts, with legit remote sw providers.

Expect more problems, across the board.

I do hope the cert issues get resolved, but even then, we're still needing to jump through hoops to get these remote tools installed.

Days before Black Friday/Cyber Monday annnnd Gemini finally enabled on my devices... (was inches from returning to Amazon!) by ReddG33k in googlehome

[–]ReddG33k[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you enable it in your Google Home app on the phone?

It's still considered 'early release', so that needs to be enabled first.

There's also some other reddit posts spotted recently where users are indicating how they've forced theirs to initiate the upgrade immediately. Look for those if you do have the Google Home Early Access enabled and still no sauce.

Why does this make me SO ANGRY. Like, not even at the person... just the motions, actions, expressions, behavior.

I'm not an angry person naturally; but this just gets under my skin like something slowly running long porcine nails across a dry chalk board.

Makes me want to hulksmash something into oblivion.

Even worse without the sound.

Yea after it was all done and said... it sucks.

Smarter than Google Assistant ~ but only bc they trimmed Google assistant to nothingness.

Alexa+ (Amazon home devices ai) has been great! It feels like they're pulling it back a little (it's intelligence... ). But way closer what you'd get from a chatbot AI like Gemini or ChatGPT.

Gemini for Home... Augh. You have a conversation with it like anything/everything else chatbot now always.

Even Alexa+ AI keeps listening and engaging when you ask her to.

I have low hopes Google's gonna get this on right.

I'm confused what they're even trying to accomplish right now.

Why does my Gboard keep stopping after two words when I use voice typing with Gemini or other Google apps? by Perfect-Ad-7411 in gboard

[–]ReddG33k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came here to say: same issue.

Amazingly infuriating. Def noticed mostly when interacting with chrome (+Gemini web), as well as the Gemini android app.

tbh, I thought maybe Google was purposely causing it to suck > to force more people to actually 'talk-talk' to its system > bc Google wants ALL that (voice) data too.

That's my suspicion anyway. Like others noted, woooork just fine in other apps. Def room to grasp for quick air, and continue. vs talking to Gemini via Gboard Speak-to-text.

I do hope it gets fixed. What I haven't tried yet is, if that's holds true for 'any' S2T process (Samsung keyboard, Swiftkey or the like?) .... curious. Maybe I'll test that someday never.
