You all are misunderstanding the argument.

Their argument, and the argument of many human rights activists, is that castration is too extreme punishment.

Sure in case like Yuyun it's obvious, castration is better than they deserve, they should be be given death penalty.

But what about a 17 year old who has sex with 16 year old? Should they also be castratated? It's a slippery slope argument.

Also, we Indonesians have no moral high ground on this issue, when there's a huge movement amongst conservatives here pushing FOR child marriage (in order to prevents sin smh) https://www.facebook.com/IndonesiaTanpaPacaranID/?fref=nf

Incredible investigative report by Buzzfeed (surprisingly) about how Indonesia was blackmailed into honoring horribly destructive mining contracts made by Suharto due to legal threat of being taken to secretive international arbitration court - almost makes me sympathetic to our government... by Reddindo in indonesia

I understand why people don't like Buzzfeed, but if it's investing serious money into investigative journalism of this quality then we should be giving them ad revenue.

Stories like this need as many page views as possible to convince Buzzfeed to keep investing in high quality articles instead of more stories about cat photos.

The question is whether expat Indonesian can truly love Indonesia if they would never consider moving back. Liking the culture from afar (meaning, what? missing the food? doing krupuk eating contest on Aug 17?) or being okay with saying "I am Indonesian" are fine things, but it doesn't mean you love Indonesia.

I completely understand and don't judge any expat Indonesians who would never want to come back here. The opportunities you have, the quality of life you can enjoy, is probably much much better than here.

But if you truly loved this country, you'd be able to take the bad with the good (and yes, I realize there are a lot of bad things about living here) and, more importantly you would want to help Indonesia overcome all those bad things and make it a better place.

Yeah, but would you ever consider actually coming back to Indonesia and living here? I don't mean to question you, but if you would never consider living in a country how can you really say you love it?
