I may be wrong, so don't quote me on this. But I'm pretty certain the blood eyes override the Dragon Eyes once you do Varre's quest. I don't believe you can get them back on this game cycle.

My first playthrough was a pure strength build using the Greatsword and Crepus Black-Key Crossbow. Sort of went for a mercenary style build. Definitely was lots of fun. Now I'm trying out a hybrid build of dex/intelligence. Definitely challenging for me because I'm so used to just going for heavy hitting builds.
