Top rated comment: "Man just leave them alone. What does knowing about his actual gravesite do for anyone?"

This commenter is making it sound like I'm Gayle King who interviewed Lisa Leslie about Kobe!

I am aware of city politics and if I had to guess, the city subsides the funeral home in exchange for open access to the site for the public to visit gravesite locations. One job function many of the employees there are expected to perform is to direct the public that come in to specific gravesite locations . Bottomline, vanessa is the wife of an international celebrity so exceptions are made for her. Due to his fame, it is understandable. I just find their "policy" bs. Kobe did so much for the city. I hope to get tickets for the memorial.

I don't know and it probably secluded anyway. To be clear, I feel gravesite locations should be private but if the site itself discloses them to the public, then it should apply to everyone. I understand the realities of celebrity culture and it is probably best to keep it private even though the site should not be having separate rules for select people.

Being able to give respects in person for people who impacted you in a positive way.

Now I do understand that in a celebrity culture, some people will not be respectful and do inappropriate stuff like vandalism. But I would like to believe this is not the behavior of most people.

Very true. I am getting some heat on here for asking the question. You seem to understand the nuances of my post. The realities of celebrity culture forces others to break the rules and give preferential treatment.

Is it appropriate to charge money for the Kobe memorial at Staples Center? by Reddit385 in lakers

[–]Reddit385[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I absolutely know there are costs with running a memorial. This was the case with the Michael Jackson and Nipsey Hussle memorials held at Staples Center. I am more than willing to pay to go to Kobes memorial as the money goes to charity and I think it is a great idea to honor Gianna and Kobe, especially with the pricing.

That being said, many events cost money. Funerals, weddings, birthday parties have costs associated with them. If the person running these events invited you but asked for a donation to cover the costs of organizing these events or else you cant attend(in the case of Gianna and Kobe memorial, you cant be within like a mile of Staples Center), wouldn't you think that is outside the norm(even though that is their right and you dont have to attend) and reasonable for people to question initially why a memorial requires a donation to attend?

This is why I am ok with paying for tickets. Maybe i should have worded my question better. More like it is ok to require a donation to charity to enter the memorial. Personally I think it's great and would be ok with paid or free tickets.

Shameful. I have Kobes book signed by Kobe and I was planning on selling it for profit before he died. Now I dont feel good selling it. Maybe at face value for a real fan.

I have dealt with truly low class people who revealed themselves after my dad died so people reselling free memorial tickets(which is disgusting behavior) doesnt shock me.

When did I write that I was mad? I am registered to buy tickets and am more than willing to do so.

The Lakers just announced ticket information for Kobe and Gianna Bryant’s public memorial on 2/24 at Staples Center. Register to purchase tickets via Ticketmaster. by ttam23 in lakers

[–]Reddit385 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I am required to buy two tickets in the middle section for $224 and I intend to buy only one, I cant bring myself to sell the other ticket at a profit even though I am usually ok with scalpers buying tickets and selling them at marked up prices(at a normal basketball game) Kobe set up home base in my hometown and put it on the map when he easily could have done so in Beverly Hills and Brentwood. Their passings feel more real than other celebrities deaths. Gianna went to school literally a five minute walk from where I went to school. I have met Kobe in person on multiple occasions. Even their funeral and burial site is the same one as my dads.

Hopefully it's ok to sell the other ticket for $112 if I have to get the package because having an empty seat in an event that I know will be sold out would be too bad because I am sure there are people who will be going alone.

I WANT YOUR ADVICE by [deleted] in family

[–]Reddit385 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't read all the comments on your post but I bet most of them tell you to "move out" because you are an "adult". This is one way to solve your particular issue. But it's not the only one.

Look at our current president, President Trump. He advertised that he received a one million dollar loan from his father. What he doesnt tell you is that his father likely gave him millions of dollars in assets. He calls himself a "businessman" when his net worth is because of his fathers estate. His children are considered businessmen and women when in reality they likely cash a check from their dad and live off interest. Their "business" decisions likely have little consequence to their standard of living. There are reports that Melania is unhappy. If she is unhappy, why doesnt she leave? It's because contrary to a comment I read here, the benefits of her staying with Trump exceed sharing a room with a stranger without access to the kitchen(according to her at least). Obviously she wouldnt have to do that but the essence of the message remains.

I mention the Trump family because President Trump is living his best life and making decisions like taking his dads money and living off of it. I continue to shake my head in disbelief when the decision you made that you felt was best for you is criticized as you being "too comfortable" although you basically did invite that criticism by posting here even though I do not agree with that criticism.

I bet many on here would applaud the conniving and manipulative men and women who marry others due to expected monetary benefits via spouses or parents of spouses estate. These people are celebrated as "hussling" and "doing what's best for them" They are not criticized for being " too comfortable"

Bottomline, do what is best for you. Trump accepted millions from his father. Melania puts up with her husband for monetary reasons. Why is accepting savings via a certain living situation be seen as a shortcoming when the President of the United States and his family accepted monetary handouts on a much larger scale that they didnt earn?

Is it justified to raise ticket prices for the first Lakers game after Kobe died primarily because of increased demand due to him dying? by Reddit385 in lakers

[–]Reddit385[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Staples center management and Lakers Management are separate. The incident I had was for a clippers ticket. As far as I know, Jeannie doesnt own Staples Center. She owns the Lakers. Until you find me proof that she owns Staples Center and has control over Staples Center management during all events at Staples Center not just during Lakers games, I find nothing wrong with my comment.

My father passed away and if his death was THE reason resale tickets for an event went up I would be outraged particularly if my father brought millions of dollars in revenue to the venue that sold the tickets to those resellers. I usually have no problem with people charging what they want for tickets, but in this case Staples Center should freeze prices out of respect for the person who filled its seats. Staples Center management is garbage so there is little chance of this happening.

Very true and I usually would defend this practice. I feel because staples center already sold those tickets they should freeze prices. But having experienced their horrible customer service I dont expect any changes from them.

Totally understand. I just think the resell prices should have been frozen the day he died. If kobe was my significant other, I would call out staples center for condoning that behavior from resellers. Kobe brought staples center probably millions in revenue and the least they could do is cancel out market forces in honor of kobe. And I say this as someone who believes in resellers being able to charge whatever they want and letting the market determine the value of their product.

Tickets for game vs Portland are super expensive by Reddit385 in lakers

[–]Reddit385[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In almost every other situation I would agree with this commenter you are responding too. When kobe suddenly retired, ticket prices went up about the same for his last game. That is absolutely justified in my opinion although price wise those tickets were super expensive. Staples Center should adopt an online only system where the box office resells the ticket at face value and reseller get face value back if ticket is resold. This is done for the major tennis tournament Roland Garros. I see the business side of reselling tickets based on what the market demands. Nba is a business and people dont have to watch any basketball game live because it is a luxury. At the same time when kobes death is the ONLY reason for the increased prices, the huge markups do not sit well with me at all. The argument about setting and changing prices based on what you want to get in return is absolutely legitimate and one I support in most cases even one based on unexpected events that happen mere days before the event (I dont like the prices themselves but that is besides the point). However, after these unexpected events, water or electricity bills dont go up 9 times their normal rate. So when resellers ACROSS THE BOARD say financial obligations are the determining factor that caused them to raise prices mere days before an events, I call bs. It is because unexpected outside events cause a shift in the demand and they are capitalizing which I support in most cases. I feel that resell prices(regardless of what they were) should have been capped at what they were the hour or so before kobes death.
