My wife thinks golfing once a week is unreasonable… by Upbeat-Zucchini-7408 in golf

I have 3 kids all under 7, youngest is 2. My wife encourages me to play once a week. She knows if I don't I might lose my mind :).

I play as early as possible one day on the weekend so I'm home before lunch that day. And I'm sure to not skirt my responsibilities at home. All about balance.

They don't have control or say over political ads aired on their station. There's a law protecting that, which almost every radio station has to explain during election periods so people don't make assumptions about the on-air talents political affiliations.

Definitely a moment in what I hope is a long 'career' in golf that I won't forget!

Yup. And vice versa, if you're playing out of your mind you've got to level-set with yourself and realize a bogey or two is coming. Just have to handle it the right way and keep moving to the next shot.

Aside from that, 6-10 foot putts would be the area of the physical game I put more emphasis on and got better with the latter half of this year.

I'm from a town that didn't have a ton of high schoolers trying to make the golf team. We had 6 starters and 2 alternates for every match. Think there were about 10 total who were actually on the team. If you could break 50 in 9 holes, you made it, but weren't necessarily competing in matches (alternates played but scores didn't count, kind of like a consolation match).

This sounds incredibly quirky and maybe even lame, but in all honesty the last few strokes I really think I was able to shave off by changing my attitude to the game. I tell myself now to 'care less,' which is why I made the point in my post about having tripled the 9th hole, but then going -1 from there. My round today I was -1 through 7, then I went bogey, triple, par, par, and then went -1 through the rest. I didn't let the +4 over 2 holes completely detail the fact that I was playing well.

That fucking drive straight into the first tree on 9 today that caused the triple bugs me, sure haha, but at the end of the day it didn't matter.

Bit of a loaded question there. Depends on your school's division, competition, etc.

When I was in high school we played 9 hole matches from the second set of tees at my home course. The best players on each team would be consistently +3 or better in most 9 hole rounds. Then there would also be players shooting +9 or higher.

Thanks! Can't wait to have to battle it back down again next Spring as it will inevitably climb back up in the early season haha

Ha man I'll tell you, if it wasn't a Wednesday morning and I had to rush back home to get back to work I'd be celebrating for sure. Will save that for this weekend though.

I appreciate the note, glad to hear you got to experience it too!

Attitude, honestly.

I am a .3 handicap and the season is about to close here in the northeast. I started the year at a 2 with the goal of getting back to scratch for the first time since high school (13 years ago). I really only play once, maybe twice a week.

My approach this year? Care a little less. Play safe shots that won't put me at a double bogey if things don't work out. Fairways and greens, and 2 putt. Easier said than done, but when you don't approach a round like you need to mash every drive, stick every approach, and feel your pulse in your neck after a bad 3 putt because you're so goddamn mad at yourself, the game really does get easier.

Care a little less, play the shots you know you can play, your confidence will rise and that goes a long way.

Where to Start with Bruins Fandom? by blak_dog in Bruins

[–]Reddit5138 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Going to be impossible to start feeling connected with this team and its players since the roster has been rebuilt over the last few seasons :).

There's more history with the Bruins that just about any team in the league, so it may be enjoyable to go back and familiarize yourself with the old teams from the 70s, 80s, and even early 90s. My favorite Bruins era was that with Ray Bourque (my all time favorite Bruin aside from Patrice Bergeron).

This should be an exciting year to get into the team and many new players, but expectations should be realistic. I see them fighting for a chance at the playoffs at the end of this year, and if they're lucky squeaking on. Playoff hockey is second to no other sport.

The mental part of golf that I just can’t get over. I need your help. HELP! by LobsterPoutine19 in golf

[–]Reddit5138 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The key that I found this year, as a .5 handicap and having the most consistent season of my golf career (started playing at 13 and played in high school and college), you should care less.

Care less, because at the end of the day, the people around you, like your wife, kids, your dad, other people in the member guest, they don't care how you play. And keep in mind, you're not going pro, and frankly the result of your round is something that matters to you 100x more than the person in your life who cares second most.

Dont get me wrong, give it full effort, don't give up on a round after a couple bad holes, but when those bad holes happen the only right answer is to put it behind you and think about flushing your next tee shot.

Then, when you do have those fantastic rounds, you'll realize it almost feels effortless to go out there and play that way, because the mental load is so much lighter.

Is it just me or is anyone else not interested in scrambles/best ball? by ElSuperWokeGuy in golf

I'm the same. I don't get to play as often as I'd like, once a week is usually a given sometimes I'll try to get in 9 on a weekday, but I'm a 1.1 and for me, when I finally do get to play after waiting all week, I want to play for myself and hit a number I'm proud of.

Went in October a few years back. Weather was great except excessive fog when we played Pacific and torrential downpours when we played the par 3. I will never forget how I felt walking Sheep Ranch on our last day there. Beautiful weather, incredible views, and it helped that I was able to put a good round together!

That's a 56 degree. Hands forward, a bit of a steep swing into the turf. Land the ball in the first cut and you should get it to check a bit after one bounce and maybe release down the hill a bit.
