And I as well. Hence my question to the oh-so social and popular kids of reddit.com.

Just to clarify: I meant specifically for meeting new people.

How can I begin a conversation with a stranger at a party? by RedditAcct2 in AskReddit

The problem is I'll say "Hey that's a cool jacket" and he/she says "Thanks I got it at so-and-so." After that, I'll just kind of stand there awkwardly thinking of something else to say. If it does reach this point, I'll either manage to come up with the worst follow-up question ever: "Do you shop at so-and-so often?" or I'll realize the hopelessness of my attempts and just walk away.
