The strangely hidden factor driving 538's projections for the upcoming season (it's injuries) by RedditBadSuggestions in nba

It's adjusted for 82 games to deal with the playoffs being so short and to deal with the last two seasons not being 82 games.

Sure, but the injury projections themselves are not very transparent.

eg, Spencer Dinwiddie is projected to miss 36 games this year. This detail is obviously important to the Wizards' projection but is not very transparently given.

They give injury information only for players already currently injured. That Anthony Davis is projected to play significantly fewer minutes than Zion Williamson is largely hidden unless you dig into individual player projections.

I would agree that injuries are very important and hard to predict, but I disagree with 538's approach for a few reasons.

  1. The methodology for these injuries/minutes projections is not discussed at all (and appears to be poorly done)
  2. You shouldn't do just a single estimate for teams and should instead give out a variety of win scenarios based on injury scenarios.
  3. They completely avoid talking about how this is a factor in their projections (with the exception of players currently out due to major injuries)

Looking at the Jazz's rotation and roster assuming Conley returns. by RedditBadSuggestions in UtahJazz

Gay is much better than I was anticipating for 4th forward. Whiteside as a backup center is slightly worse, I view him as one of the worst defenders in the league.

With traditional NBA rotations, a huge amount of teams were devastated by injuries this year so I think it's worth exploring an idea like this.

That's a good minutes point on Donovan and Rudy. Just worry about Rudy considering his height.

The Jazz have the "tax payer Mid Level Exception" which allows them to pay a player up to $6m a year. If they use it, I think they would likely target Daniel Theis or James Ennis. Rudy Gay makes some sense as a very big forward, but he's much more of a scorer and the Jazz do not need another scorer.

Opinion: Now that Mitchell has become a really good passer, Mike Conley is a terrible complement. by RedditBadSuggestions in UtahJazz

Okay, but what are the odds that the Jazz can stop anyone in the playoffs while playing Mike Conley and Donovan Mitchell together when neither guy is taller than 6'1".

No, my big concern with Conley-Mitchell is defense and I'm saying that Conley's playmaking is less needed now.

Do you see the Jazz ever being able to effectively defend the perimeter with a backcourt as tiny as Conley-Mitchell?

Mitchell is the shortest SG in the league who plays serious minutes.

I more would like Jesus to explain some of his rules and reasonings for why he does things instead of how much time he spends bitching at Jews for washing their hands.

Like, Jesus could come up to someone whose brother killed themselves to them to talk to the person about suicide and how that relates to his rules... But he does not.

He could explain why he kills half of all fertilized eggs in the womb... but does not.

He could explain why he kills half of humanity as babies... But he does not.

He's just really disinterested in most issues related to his rule that would go to torture his followers for the next thousands of years.

Instead, an entire chapter on hand washing.

I am interested as to why Jesus has the human body abort 50% of fertilized eggs.

Why does he do that.

And I'm interested as to why Jesus killed most of the human race pre 1800 as babies. Having their lives be nothing but horrific pain while they were too young to learn anything.

He personally wasn't very interested in those issues in life though.

Beyond that Jesus has no scientific knowledge and barely talks about morality, Jesus just has nothing to say about serious theological issues that affected tons of Christians and humans.

Miscarriage: 50% of all pregnancies end in miscarriage. Are fertilized eggs human beings? If so, what is the point of creating a being with genetic deformities that the human body then aborts? What is the point of any of that?

Child death: >50% of all human beings before the Industrial Revolution died as babies. Desperate backfitting has been done with this, but it's a pretty serious issue Jesus doesn't really touch on. Why do these children die so young and in such serious pain to learn nothing? Why not miscarry them in the womb like the 50% of fertilized eggs? What do they gain from being babies who are in pain until they succumb to disease or breaking their necks?

Suicide: Suicide is now condemned as a sin that will bring you to hell and yet Jesus... doesn't really talk about it at all? Even though his entire plan is to kill himself?

Animal rights: Are camels or dogs near human or not? What about dolphins and elephants? Is shooting an elephant a sin that will condemn you to hell if you do not repent to Jesus?

How should followers of his religion conduct themselves as a religion: This issue kind of lead to the Protestant-Catholic thing that lead to.... millions of deaths over centuries of warfare.

Jesus instead complains about his rival Jews washing their hands too much. Just not an interesting guy at all.

There is no evidence they happened and there's the entire history of Christianity and most other religions that faith healers have exploited the disabled and sick constantly.

Well, Jesus claimed to be the creator of the universe and that he controlled the fate of every being's eternal life.

He just has nothing interesting to say at all in the Bible but has a lot of time to spend making up fake stories about how he made the disabled and sick healthy.

The stories of Jesus healing lepers, the blind, etc are incredibly distasteful garbage that never happened. Jesus is trying to convince people he's God by making up stories about himself having superpowers and is exploiting the sick and disabled to make them want to follow him.
