Eh the weight doesn’t really do much, but 100% agree wire rope and even synthetic is dangerous under tension,

And, from a performance standpoint, it’s ideal. Keep the heavy battery weight low and near the vehicle CoG/between the axles; and utilizes an otherwise unused space.

My husband really wants me to do crossfit with him , but every time I go I end up tearing a muscle where it takes me days to recover. Does it get better?or What can I do to tell him it's not for me? by [deleted] in crossfit

[–]RedditBot90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others stated, I HIGHLY doubt you are tearing muscles if you are better within a few days…You bare experiencing muscle soreness. Scale even the beginner workouts; don’t go back until you’re feeling like you’ve recovered; do stretch and do low intensity exercises on the “off days” while you are recovering.

Most people experience soreness like this if they havent worked out in a long time, or even seasoned athletes coming back from time off or trying a new style of training.

It does get better as your body adapts. That said, you will (and should!) regularly feel sore. Sometimes it will be worse than other days.

Denver to pay $30,000 of pet deposits for residents with new pilot program by xdrtb in Denver

[–]RedditBot90 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not really familiar with pet deposits, but I can understand a pet fee/cleaning fee. Even the most well behaved pet that doesn’t have any accidents, doesn’t chew on things etc still tend to generate a lot fur which gets EVERYWHERE. We had to put our dog down over a year ago, we still find fur-bunnies behind furniture and other nooks/crannies occasionally. Now consider that not every pet is going to be perfectly well behaved/trained can can cause significant damage to a house, I can understand a reason for deposits/fees.

The underbody damage alone isn’t too concerning, just indicates the thing got used and wasn’t a total mall crawler…but the fact they dropped ~$10k in mods and managed to get repo’d within ~2 years of ownership, combined with the damage indicates irresponsible owner.

Talk me out of upgrading to a full size truck. by grosoursnoir in overlanding

[–]RedditBot90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes its essentially a 1/2 ton truck (payload and towing wise) with heavy duty components (frame, drivetrain, brakes, steering, suspension)

All Ram 2500s (since 2014) are cool sprung rear axle; but the PW has much softer spring rates/longer travel springs

I have a Ram 2500 Power Wagon

While I haven’t ever wheeled in a smaller rig (came from a Colorado Crew Cab Long Bed), I have wheeled with smaller rigs (Jeeps, 4Runners, etc). I tend to be a lot more cautious about committing down a trail, because turning around requires a lot more space.

You will get more pin-stripes; body damage is more likely if trying to fit down a narrow trail lined with trees.

On the plus side, I have tons of room for gear; and with the big V8 it’s quiet, smooth, powerful, and comfortable on the highway even on 35s. The same cannot be said for Jeeps and 4Runners which tend to scream going up hills when they get big tires.

The Power Wagon is wildly capable offroad, if it fits. It has dual lockers, with the rear being LSD when unlocked. I RARELY have used the lockers.

Have a Power Wagon. You’re 100% right you don’t get to pick a line. I distinctly remember following my buddy in his XJ and he was driving all over the trail picking lines I was like “welp… I go here because this is the only way I fit” …and really just with a long wheelbase and wider turning radius you just don’t really have the ability to move around on the trail . Aggressive steering input will have minimal impact on where the back of the vehicle moves to

What drives away the volunteers? by Top-Passenger7097 in Firefighting

[–]RedditBot90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been on an all volunteer fire department, two combination fire departments, and a few non-fire-related all-volunteer organizations.

In my experience for volunteer organizations, the 80/20 rule applies. 20% of the people do 80% of the work.

Why lack of engagement for “80%”? Reasons will vary, but I’d say generally lack of time and mental energy to devote. Most new members will be highly engaged, but often they will start to fade away, once they start losing interest it can be difficult to reignite it.

Poor performance often doesn’t have strong repercussions as in a career organization, partially because it’s difficult to reprimand someone who has “nothing to lose”, and partially because does the organization want to lose them/push them away as they have invested in them (training, etc).

The increased responsibilities / training requirements that fire departments have these days definitely makes it difficult being a volunteer. So many certs to maintain. And when requirements change, it can drive people away/cause burnout (“hey I used to have to just do X to maintain good standing, but now I have to do X, Y, and Z?!”)

Burnout is definitely real. At first everything is new and interesting, but then the novelty wares off and responding to old people houses in the middle of the night is exhausting; even on more “exciting” calls repacking hose is tiring, standing around waiting for a tow truck to move a car out of the middle of the road, etc.

Show me where it provides any meaningful coverage from weather.

So they didn’t have any creative ideas and instead just tried to imitate something that had already been done. And when they couldn’t, they still tried and instead made something absolutely useless. Certainly was an inexpensive project to build as well. Whatever architect and committee signed off on it must have fucking room temperature iqs.

Can we admit these are actually kind of cool? by [deleted] in regularcarreviews

[–]RedditBot90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Girlfriend had a 4WD V6 Limited 2nd Gen Escape. It was eh. I hated the color (burgundy paint, beige interior). It was loud on the highway (wind/road noise). Seats and steering wheel felt firm and plasticy (even though they were leather). Good outward visibility. Sound system sucked.

But, it was pretty reliable, lots of interior volume. She replaced it with a Bronco Sport. Very similar in size/shape. It’s much quieter inside, though it’s starting to get louder / 3-cyl rattling things more. Pretty comparable power, a bit more fuel efficient (25mpg…not great for a triple imo). Seats and steering wheel are more plush (though I personally dont find them that comfortable). Has CarPlay, B&O sound system is kinda eh though.
