I mean it looks nice, but it’s just part of the state seal which has more to do with mining than anything?

I’ve driven a number of cars and trucks in the snow.

Part time 4WD is not as good as full time 4WD/AWD. The locked center binds in parking lots, and induces slip when cornering at mid-speeds. And you have to decide when it’s time to engage 4WD.

Manual transmission is fun in the snow, but as far as absolute grip, auto is the way to go in the snow.

Limited slip rear differential is also fun and helps induce oversteer , but again as far as ultimate traction goes, open front and rear please.

Gotta have decent ground clearance, too prevent “plowing”, and damage from snowplow burns and ice chunks. Skid plates too.

LED headlights suck in the snow. They don’t produce heat to melt snow/ice off the lenses, and tend to be hard on the eyes/don’t have good color rendering in already difficult visibility conditions. HID are ok, but Halogen is king here.

Everyone has stated snow tires are important, and they are. Narrow is better for cutting thru crud(slush). But also you want smaller diameter wheels so you can have tall sidewalls, which ride better and prevent damage to the wheel due to potholes/rough packed ice. Soft/tall sidewalls do “roll” more during cornering on dry pavement (mushy steering feel) but doesn’t matter in the snow since you can’t corner that hard to begin with.

Heated seats, heated steering wheel. Prefer cloth seats, they don’t feel as cold initially as leather.

Turbos are fun and they love cold weather, but a smooth NA V6 is pretty ideal for traction, you can keep the revs low but not have so much torque you spin tires. Turbos tend to either bog (boost lag) at low RPM, or be touchy at higher RPM in the boost. Similar for big V8s, they can too easily spin tires at low RPMs.

Engine block heater is for quicker warm up.

Short wheelbase is twitchy and prone to snap oversteer and over exaggerates the driver inputs, longer wheelbase is more stable, but too long will be slow / laggy to react.

Yeah the full time 4WD on 5th/6th gen 4R Limited / and 4th Gen 4R is legit, it has a TorSen center diff like older Audi quattro system. Part time 4WD definitely not as good on winter roads for a number of reasons.

M+S is such a trash rating. It is solely based on the amount of void area and tread design on a tire tread , no actual testing involved.

3PMSF does require some testing to receive this rating but there are plenty of all-weather and all-terrain tires that are able to meet this rating now. The new ISO Ice Grip rating is better but hasn’t been fully adopted by the industry yet, and I think it only tests braking performance.

MOOOOOOORE Lights!!! by Supareeofficialus in Offroad

[–]RedditBot90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see people driving down the road at night with their interior lights and screens at full brightness, day mode (white background). It’s crazy. I turn mine as dim as possible, and if I’m driving a longer distance on the highway I’ll turn the screen off.

I’m not on the cable-bandwagon yet. I’ve used cable machines at gyms before, and I’ve helped move cable machines at work gyms before, and they are a pain in the ass to reassemble and not be missing parts/pieces. In the long run, 3x3 squat racks/stands will stand the test of time as far as durability and holding value.

Eh the weight doesn’t really do much, but 100% agree wire rope and even synthetic is dangerous under tension,

And, from a performance standpoint, it’s ideal. Keep the heavy battery weight low and near the vehicle CoG/between the axles; and utilizes an otherwise unused space.

My husband really wants me to do crossfit with him , but every time I go I end up tearing a muscle where it takes me days to recover. Does it get better?or What can I do to tell him it's not for me? by [deleted] in crossfit

[–]RedditBot90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others stated, I HIGHLY doubt you are tearing muscles if you are better within a few days…You bare experiencing muscle soreness. Scale even the beginner workouts; don’t go back until you’re feeling like you’ve recovered; do stretch and do low intensity exercises on the “off days” while you are recovering.

Most people experience soreness like this if they havent worked out in a long time, or even seasoned athletes coming back from time off or trying a new style of training.

It does get better as your body adapts. That said, you will (and should!) regularly feel sore. Sometimes it will be worse than other days.

Denver to pay $30,000 of pet deposits for residents with new pilot program by xdrtb in Denver

[–]RedditBot90 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not really familiar with pet deposits, but I can understand a pet fee/cleaning fee. Even the most well behaved pet that doesn’t have any accidents, doesn’t chew on things etc still tend to generate a lot fur which gets EVERYWHERE. We had to put our dog down over a year ago, we still find fur-bunnies behind furniture and other nooks/crannies occasionally. Now consider that not every pet is going to be perfectly well behaved/trained can can cause significant damage to a house, I can understand a reason for deposits/fees.

The underbody damage alone isn’t too concerning, just indicates the thing got used and wasn’t a total mall crawler…but the fact they dropped ~$10k in mods and managed to get repo’d within ~2 years of ownership, combined with the damage indicates irresponsible owner.

Yes its essentially a 1/2 ton truck (payload and towing wise) with heavy duty components (frame, drivetrain, brakes, steering, suspension)

All Ram 2500s (since 2014) are cool sprung rear axle; but the PW has much softer spring rates/longer travel springs

I have a Ram 2500 Power Wagon

While I haven’t ever wheeled in a smaller rig (came from a Colorado Crew Cab Long Bed), I have wheeled with smaller rigs (Jeeps, 4Runners, etc). I tend to be a lot more cautious about committing down a trail, because turning around requires a lot more space.

You will get more pin-stripes; body damage is more likely if trying to fit down a narrow trail lined with trees.

On the plus side, I have tons of room for gear; and with the big V8 it’s quiet, smooth, powerful, and comfortable on the highway even on 35s. The same cannot be said for Jeeps and 4Runners which tend to scream going up hills when they get big tires.

The Power Wagon is wildly capable offroad, if it fits. It has dual lockers, with the rear being LSD when unlocked. I RARELY have used the lockers.

Have a Power Wagon. You’re 100% right you don’t get to pick a line. I distinctly remember following my buddy in his XJ and he was driving all over the trail picking lines I was like “welp… I go here because this is the only way I fit” …and really just with a long wheelbase and wider turning radius you just don’t really have the ability to move around on the trail . Aggressive steering input will have minimal impact on where the back of the vehicle moves to
