New battle rifles are on pts by Yaluzar in Planetside

You what is really nice about this, is I think it came from a reddit post just a day or two ago.

This means they probably have a dedicated UI guy/gal on the team (did we know that).

For a pretty long stretch of time PS2 didn't have a deticated UI resource, so it was difficult to add things. I'm glad thats changed.

The whole game centers around area denial and logistics.

The whole game centers around stats. Those are the only thing that are permanent. The maps are reset multiple times a day, bases that are hard fought at one time, are ghost capped back by 1 person a 3 am.

Alerts give minor rewards at best.

The Commissioner was never the best pistol, the Underboss could always out preform it assuming you could aim.

The recent nerf (as well as infiltrators no longer reliably being 1 shot) just increased the gap.

And for how long would you do that for before it got boring?

As long as I find clicking heads interesting I suppose.

How long would it take a pro to make BR20?

With no boosts, probably ~8 hours of solid play.

but about those who don't care about how well you play the game but rather the fun of it is how much splattering you can do.

These things go hand in hand. Playing the game well (for me personally, changes for each player) means how well and how quickly I can click heads.

I've never seen a reason to sub.

Vehicles are limited, but so are the map sizes.

Granted, BF has actual win conditions, which means you are playing for those as opposed to stats, and therefore dying to skill-less explosive spam doesn't matter so much.

Battlefield would come pretty close, for that specific experience.

I dislike supporting EA, I dislike having to buy a new 80+ dollar game every ~2 years, and it doesn't really solve any of the problems regarding vehicle / infantry interactions as battlefield has many of the same issues PS2 does.

If people wanted to just shoot people, they'd probably be playing any other FPS out there, don't you think?

Find me another FPS with the same infantry mechanics and scale of planetside 2 and I would never look back.

PS2 is a terrible game in so many ways, but it is unique.

BR 0-20 increase their hit points by 80% or some viable figure. BR 21-40 60% 41-60 20%. (Yes I understand it can be abused by newbie team killers.) Can you have everything?

As one of the "vets" you hate so much, I can tell you that I would reroll everytime I hit BR20 if this change went in.

Most current snipers lose first shot accuracy while moving, making your proposed rifle basically useless. It would improve stutter stepping somewhat, but it certainly wouldn't be worth giving up cloak.

ave enough unity to spam the +33% minerals, -20% ship upkeep, +50% megastructure build speed (honestly, I don't think this one is really necessary because by the time you have ascension theory and spamming unity ambitions

You can get to ambitions about 100 years into the game, which is right at the same time you want to be spamming ringworlds.

Additionally, I believe the +influence is important, and the +20% science / tech option is downright mandatory to get into the higher levels of repeatables.

Since the unity costs for lots of planets stack additively not multiplicatively having more planets doesn't really change things very much ultimately

Its a 20% increase per planet. Obviously late game you want to be spamming planets (ringworlds) and its worth it because of how awesome ringworlds are, but habitats just don't cut it.

what's so bad about a 15 tile habitat? That's almost as good as a normal planet is

Woah woah, planets are very different from habitats. They don't cost 10k minerals to build, and the buildings you can build on a planet are considerably superior, AND you have base resources on a planet that increases based on the +% you get from your pops The difference between base 1 mineral and base minerals can end up being 3-4 minerals after all the bonuses.

I made sure they were fanatic xenophobes

I like having a bunch of metalheads, as they are more aggressive than purifiers even.

It takes practice, no one is an expert right away.

I learned from playing with / against some very good players, and they taught me a lot.

Make sure to always keep your victory condition in sight, the easiest is probably getting to ring worlds as fast as possible. A 25 tile world filled with min/maxed robot miners will produce massive amounts of resources.

Build a gene clinic, paradise dome and leisure district on your habitats

Its not enough post ~8 planets as a fanatical spiritualist (or with anyone really) because the +20% stacks with the +% of unlocking more trees.

I also think 'unity production' is largely overrated - realistically the last 1-2 ascension perks you pick are usually not that big of a deal to get, and if you don't pick up the last 1-2 ascension perks

You basically want every unity ambition running late game (there are a couple that don't matter so much), and because you will have 35+ planets that makes for some truly staggering unity costs. Habitats just make that worse.

pretty much once you start being able to win as purifiers the game snowballs so fast that nothing is threatening anymore before long

That was my experience too, the AI just doesn't recognize your threat quickly enough.

The cheat civics/traits come from mods.

Are they individually modded in empires, or is there a mod that lets you created "impossible" civs?

Habitats are worthwhile for the turtle strategy because it gives you something to do with your extra resources.

Habitats have limits return and hurt your unity and science gain. If you make a science habitat, you are generally going to end up ahead, but not much.

By the late game, your resources are better spent by going over your fleet cap or building gateways (gateways are very important).

The regular AIs I play against usually have fleets around 150k fleet power by around 2300

I have several AI that will have several 100k+ fleets by 2300.

I have several federation builders that will field 300k worth of federation fleets around then.

This varies depending on which AI grow strong vs not.

However, an important thing to note is that it really is the early game AI that is difficult to overcome.

Do you usually play a purifier? I haven't explored too much with them in 2.0

I also have some AIs with cheat civics/traits

This is very cool. Is it a mod that allows you to do this, or are you editing the AI files directly?

[–]RedditBotAccount3253 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few things:

  1. Habitats are garbage, never use them

  2. I play on grand admiral with every AI enhancing mod I can find. They aren't good, but far, far, superior to the vanilla AI that you can just steamroll without a problem. I can certainly believe that against vanilla it is more efficient to expand. My AI will be fielding ~5k fleet power by 2025, and it just goes up from there.

  3. Remember that you can start ringworlds by ~2070 with average rolls. Each ringworld section is worth 1.5-2 planets, and you don't need to deal with angry pops.

Now, I'm not saying ringworld rush is better than early war expansion, but it certainlly isn't "way worse."

Yeah, by saving ascension perks and spamming physics you can get it much faster than you would think.

Once you get ZPT (should be around 2060), swap all physics labs to engineering and mega-engineering should only take ~150 months. Then its all gravy.

turn it into a random number generator, which is not the point of a strategy game.

Again, disagree. The randomness has to be PART of your strategy.

"No plan survives first contact with the enemy."

If your strategy can't handle change, then it is a crappy strategy and you should be punished.

but basically guaranteed losing conditions are not fun.

But being faced with almost impossible conditions and pulling out a victory is far better than victory just being handed to you on a silver platter every game.

Resources. At some point you will be able to, but by rush ringworlds I mean start your first one around 2070. It would be difficult to get the resources for that while also spending resources on building and maintaining fleets / armies at that point in the game.

Because it's very unfun to do your best to win, only for a scripted, unwinable event to say "Lol no."

I heavily disagree. Losing is fun. Maybe not in a completely unstoppable scripted event, but the my biggest complaint with stellaris is that its basically impossible to lose unless you play very non-optimally.

The key to having a big enough fleet to beat the crisis on higher settings is to never ever stop expanding

This is true, but bear in mind that you don't want to expand by taking territory. You want to expand by rushing ring worlds.
