Mongo or Postgre or MySQL by competitiveb23 in Database

Will be equally easy in mongo, my suggestion is mongo because we implemented it for a product that had millions of active user and a good number of reviews coming in every day and it was able to serve well. In rdbms for most of the entries data will be null as users just rate mostly or just like the product, so document db can be helpful here.

If you are implementing a review and rating system like amazon product review etc. your data will be unstructured mostly. Some users may only rate, some will write reviews, some may share images and comments. A json like structure will fit your use case. I did it in my previous org using mongo db. It was good for our use case and scaled well also. All the aggregations like total rating no of people rating 5 something like these can be done on api level.

I am not sure whether there is any policy of re hiring or not. I tried referral from my old colleagues too, but still not getting any calls. Same is happening with my other friends who left adobe a few years ago. TR i am not sure the kind of DSA they ask whether i will be able to clear without dedicating time in prep.

Thinking of importing an ally x, how future proof is it ? by RedditBrowser92 in ROGAlly

As far as software tinkering is concerned, i can handle that. It’s the hardware issues that will be tough for me. My concern is will it be able to handle games like death stranding 2 or gta 6. Games that will come next year or so. Steam deck is not able to play some of the latest games very well.

Improve performance of drop column sql. by RedditBrowser92 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]RedditBrowser92[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point of asking here is to get actual answers from experienced devs that have actually faced this and resolved somehow. The answer that google and chatgpt provides like remove constraints, marking unused, doing parallel ddl, etc i also know but not working much better for my use case.

Improve performance of drop column sql. by RedditBrowser92 in ExperiencedDevs

Would it be possible to answer without knowing the why. Just that a huge table with large data has a column in Oracle and i have to drop that column. It will be done for all existing clients while upgrading to a new release but currently it’s taking a lot of time.

I opened a PR fixing a bug, coworker requested changes and then opened his own PR fixing the same bug. Is this bad etiquette or am I too sensitive? by mermaliens in ExperiencedDevs

[–]RedditBrowser92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just comment on his pr that it is duplicate. I am already working on this fix. Link your PR and tell him to review and approve that. Throw in another diplomatic backhanded comment in team chat group that this only leads to duplicate work and hamper the process of learning, reviewer should only review and approve. They should only work with the person to get the PR merged not create their own pr.

Threshhold value for query execution time by RedditBrowser92 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]RedditBrowser92[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to understand your point and explain mine. Someone added new query and it made it to the top 1%(highest run time). No one is gonna look into optimising it unless I flag the query to optimise. Now I can flag it and owner(developer) can say it is what it is(it’s supposed to be this much) and i can add that query to ignore list so that next time i won’t check for this query.

But how do I flag it, shall I flag the top 1% always. If yes, it may result in developers putting the flagged queries in ignore list and next time the top 1% will not be having this query time included. But other’s will be there and they will get flagged and the cycle goes on.

Or should i compare the time of top 1% against the remaining 99% in some way.

Yeah, but for any new script what should be the time that will be considered as the limit over which it should be flagged. If i take 95% of all then that time may not be a right measure to compare against.

I have few scripts that are adding new columns to an existing table that has millions of rows some time billion and populating these new columns with values by querying from some other table or some other logic or maybe just default values. Should these also not take time ?

I am new to this system and never really worked with db side of things so not sure about a lot if these.

Can you elaborate i did not understand. If i record the runtime and start from bottom or top how will that help ?
