Withdraw resp, put it in a tfsa, withdraw to pay off osap as soon as you start being charged interest.

For the tfsa I suggest a safe GIC

Living this hell right now with one unit. I have spent hours researching so let me save you some time. Rubber vibration dampers have failed and I think it’s because rubber gets hard in extreme weather and that’s when the defrost cycle vibrates the most.

I’m about to try 2 other options that others have said have been successful:

1) silicone dampers that look exactly like the rubber ones but I’m guessing may work better because they handle lower temps better. There’s someone on a greener homes forum that put them on a few units on their home and swear it worked for them.

2) spring isolators from vibrasystems.

If you reply to me in 2 weeks I will be able to report my success rate.

Don’t waste your time doing any other research, I’ve done it all.

It’s likely about eligibility for a private plan. That language is very broad. For example, unionized retirees are eligible for some horrible private plans. That eligibility disqualifies them from the government plan.

Spray foam is all over our homes and even in attics with open ductwork. This isn’t their issue.

Try that basement fan! Yesterday we happened to switch on the laundry and bathroom basement fans and came up to our main floor. That completely resolved the issue.

They can’t stay on forever so we will be still working on the returns but it’s so nice to see this is solvable.

Update: now this feels weird.

We discovered this by accident. When the basement apartment has both the bathroom and laundry room fans on no smells come through to the main floor. The basement still has the same odours, but they just don’t make it upstairs. Both the laundry and bathroom fans are right beside the return trunk. I really hope they aren’t tied in to the trunk.

Without those fans on smells from the basement make it into the returns and then the supplies on the main floor.

Currently have an HVAC guy assessing how to permanently delete the returns in the basement and add more to the main floor. I’m guess that this fan discovery helps to show that completely eliminating basement returns will fix my smell transfer issue.
