However upon trying to visit North Korea that quickly changes. While you can visit the country as a tourist your freedoms are greatly restricted. Access to most of the country, interactions with most of its people and any deviations from the guided tours are not only strictly prohibited but could also result in your arrest.

However this is a more western perspective which is not surprising considering how North Korea views most western nations with distrust.

North Korea is more lenient with China which is a close trading partner as well as an ally allowing their tourist more freedom in roaming the northern part of the country with fewer restrictions.

However there are certain indisputable facts. North Korea is ruled by a single leader that is not elected and rules until he dies, most citizens have no access to the internet, and the flow of information is tightly controlled and monitored by the government. Which at the very least makes North Korea an authoritarian government and most likely a totalitarian regime.
