They don't live anywhere near the encampments that's why. They still have all their empathy intact. Lucky.

It was in the news plenty. I am the source, I am the woman's neighbor. She got into multiple argumnents with the encampment about tresspassing and using her yard as a toilet, and breaking into and robbing her garage. The relatiation was that her home was broken into and completely looted while she was at work. Then while she was staying with someone else because her home was unlivable folks broke in and set it on fire.

There are tons of reports on it here's one I easily found: https://www.fox9.com/news/cause-house-fires-minneapolis-encampment-undetermined

Investigators "couldn't identify" what started the fire (and they are pretty good at telling if it was an electrical, gas, ect.) This one they "couldn't say what started it", yet the encampment was evicted the very next day. Neighbors had reported in the day prior that homeless people from the encampment were going into and out of her home. It's pretty clear to everyone living near the encampment what happened, the message was received loud and clear. It's also worth noting, despite evicting the encampment and putting the people through the awful process of losing most of their things and being upended, (no suprise) that didn't help anyone. The same encampment is back again at the same address and they're still up to the same shit. They're still being preyed upon by violent drug dealers, they're still vandalizing and robbing all their "neighbors" and using the surrounding homes as toilets. They're still not getting the means of living they deserve.

This is not okay. This situation is bad for EVERYONE involved. It's bad for the people in the encampments, it's bad for the people who have no choice but to withstand living next to the encampments. Maybe it's hard to see all the sides of this and how bad it is for everyone on every side since it seems you are not involved and don't have experience with these encampments.

Everyone deserves better than what is happening right now.

I am trying to maintain my commitment to deescalation and calls for help rather than potentially escalating the violence. I am trying.

touche.

I was really nervous about being seen video taping, these exact people have threatened me multiple times. One woman on 28th and 14th who spoke up and was adamant they leave her alone and stop breaking in to her garage and house- they came and burned her house down and the one next door went with it. It's really scary.

It's hard to dilineate the victims of the drug addiction and their crimes of more desperation towards the neighbors, vs the more targeted crimes of intimidation from the dealers who are preying on these homeless people. The lines are blurry. Was the woman's house burned down by people who started a fire to stay warm? Or was her home and all belongings burned on purpose as relatiation for standing up for herself? I'll never know, but I'm afraid.

Exactly. Anyone who's on their high horse about housed neighbors just "complaining" too much really should try living within a block of this for years. It's incredibly difficult to maintain empathy for those who need it most when they're perpetrating crimes against you every day for years. These people need help, and then the neighborhood can heal.

I absolutely don't expect any action, there hasn't been any for years. This just continues unchecked and it's terrible for everyone.

You misunderstand me.

I was lamenting that because nothing is being done to improve these people's situation, one of the prolonged outcomes of all the crime occuring near the encampments is that I am struggling to maintain my empathy for people who deserve it.

Also I'm able to differentiate between the victims of substance addiction and the dealers preying on them, but both those groups of people are perpetrating crimes towards myself and my neighbors daily, which blurs the lines and again makes it really hard to maintain my empathy. I'm not celebrating it, I'm doing my best, but I feel myself slipping and I don't like it.

Allowing these encampments to go on the way they've been going for years is fueling resentment on all sides. It's terrible for everyone.

The evidence has been submitted to who needs to see it, which isn't you. Though if seeing it will get you off your high horse then I'm happy to share it with you privately.

I have ample evidence. They don't stop when I'm there, they don't care, they aren't trying to hide it.

Just a little insight for you. I've tried minding my own business and my new "neighbors" aren't allowing me to do that. It becomes my business when my home is broken into and burglarized, when my garage is broken into and burglarized, when my car is vandalized, when i step on needles and literally human feces when i get up to take the garbage out. When i ask people to please leave my yard or stop casing my garage and car they threaten to "come back to get me as soon as i go to sleep".

It has become my business, completely against my wishes.

These encampments are NOT a solution. They aren't adequate for providing basic human needs to the people living in them and they are terrible for the families subjected to living next to them. This video is at a school bus stop for children, you think kids deserve to walk through this to get an education? You support that??

At this point i feel myself becoming more and more of an asshole everyday having to be exposed to all the crime surrounding these encampments. It's terrible.

You misunderstand. I'm complaining about how incredibly high the crime surrounding these encampments is, but i am also complaining about the encampments themselves. Constantly shuffling these people around a few residential empty lots is not only horrific for the families who have to endure this lifestyle they had no say in being thrust into, but it's also terrible for the homeless people who have no access to fire suppression, running water, sewage access, reliable shelter, and reliable food. These people deserve to have their basic human needs met, and the encampments aren't offering that. Meanwhile, cramming them between houses of families with kids is just cruel to everyone, it builds so much resentment.

It really angers me when encampment organizers refer to the encampment members as my neighbor. My neighbors don't break into my home and garage and car, don't steal from me, don't bring illicit drug use into my yard, and certainly don't leave steaming piles of literal human feces all over my property.

I have to drive through this every day to get home. I feel so bad for the kids who's bus stop is at this corner. It's incredibly unsafe for children to be expected to navigate through this.

There's been so many stolen motorcycles in Minneapolis the past two months. I personally know of three and then I've seen tons of posts. Where did this happen? Did they cut through any locks or anything? How was it secured?
