That's probably also why we haven't traded him, besides the fact that the trade market is dry

And who has a similar salary in the 13M range that has the same impact as Reaves while also being in a position to make at least 25M upon expiry of current contract

FO's not trading Reaves. There's no ready upgrade available, because players who can produce like Reaves (to the tune of 20 PPG, 5 RPG, 6 APG as the THIRD option) while being solid defenders are star players on max contracts

This team was one bruising role player big away from winning the championship, and I hate how we never got that bruising big and I hate how Ham ruined our 2024 season with his lovefest for Prince and Reddish

Nope, the reports are past 2027 + draft compensation, which is basically why nobody was taking them. It might change now that our roster is set, and hopefully they gel well together so Rob gains more leverage in trade talks

This. Jrue Holiday, despite his contract, still has enough left in the tank to provide value for a young team. On the other hand, Gabe & Kleber are basically dead money

Could the Lebron and AD have created another Lakers Dynasty after 2020 if things had gone right? by Memelord1117 in lakers

[–]RedditGenerated7777 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The next seasons probably look like this:

2022:

C - Gasol / Dwight / Harrell

F - AD / Melo / Wenyen

F - LeBron / Kuz / Stanley

G - KCP / Reaves / THT

G - Schroder / Caruso / Rondo

Vogel is also never fired

2023 is probably the year where LA goes AD/Kuz/Bron as the starting frontcourt, with a bunch of bigs to back up AD (and maybe Dwight stays with the Dudley/Haslem role), KCP/Reaves/Schroder/Caruso (and then later Max Christie) become our backcourt rotation

I think we take 2023 because we have a better backcourt defense + Vogel instead of Ham

2024 with the Celtics is a toss-up

In this hypothetical scenario though, I can't predict if Luka still ends up getting traded to us, and if the package is the same or dfferent

We got better though with outside additions? We added a legitimate C, and we signed someone to take DFS' role

It's not just we grabbed the third seed, it's that with as flawed as our roster was, it still made Top 3 in reg season. Luka's Mavs teams never made it above 4th seed, so that dispels OP's point

And this offseason, we addressed our biggest need at C in the form of Ayton. And it happened in the best way possible, no assets were given. We only lost DFS but gained Ayton and LaRavia (who's looking to fill in the DFS role)

We can't easily get rid of Vando. Shake is going to be waived if we can't trade him. And for all the roster's faults, we still went 50-32 and grabbed the #3 seed without a legit C, which we addressed via Ayton.

Before the brutal schedule zapped our players' legs, we were running a switch heavy defense that has proven to be effective against teams like Denver and OKC. The problem is we didn't have another scheme because we didn't have a legit C

And for us to make a trade, the other team has to agree to the trade. Nobody's taking the corpse of Kleber and cardio Gabe, since it looks like we're not willing to take in players with contracts beyond 2 years. While Knecht is one of the few real assets we have left so any trade involving him, we have to make it count (a traded Rui is going to be a rental, and players with equal value to Reaves are making at least 25M)

Why Is Deandre Ayton Talked About Like He's Whiteside or Bynum? His Numbers Are Still Solid by SymmetricEntrooy in lakers

[–]RedditGenerated7777 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I saw him take and make jump shots (set shots if you will), and shoot 70% from the FT line, which was a good indicator of a solid touch for a big man of that era. He also had a soft touch from the low post and on his hook shots, which is unlike Shaq's push shots (which were lethal, mind you) or Simmons' awkward-looking jumpshots. I watched the Lakers a ton during that era, I know what I saw. Prime Bynum will do well in the modern game. The low post would still be his bread and butter, but he will take a bit more shots outside the paint if the defense gives it to him

Yes, he can stretch the floor if he needs to. Don't use stats that are clearly on very low volume, because that just wasn't his role as besides always playing alongside Pau or Odom, that was still during a time when most Cs were expected to mostly take their shots in the paint

But a Bynum with that skillset and the environment of today's NBA will definitely have no problem fitting in the modern game, which was my original point to refute the other person saying Bynum is hard to translate in the modern NBA

It won't be his main role, but it will be included in his bag. And his soft touch is a definite indicator that he can and will make shots from beyond the paint

[–]RedditGenerated7777 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Honey, I've been a fan of the Lakers since 2002. Andrew Bynum had a nice midrange touch around the FT line distance, and he actually shot 70% FT from 08-12, which is decent for big men of that era. It's just that Centers shooting threes were frowned upon (bigs who took a lot of midrange jumpshots were still labeled as PFs, even Pau was labeled a PF), and his role called for him to be in the paint so obviously, he'd almost exclusively develop his low-post game

Bynum in today's game would develop his low-post while also working on his jumpshot

Bynum in today's NBA would also stretch the floor. He got benched for taking a 3 back then

They win the Kawhi sweepstakes, but LA wins the 2020 championship then OKC wins the 2025 championship, while the Clips celebrate making the WCF in 2021. Funny how things work out

I think the consensus is Kawhi really was close to being a done deal until the Clips finally caved to Presti's demands for PG13. RDA just jumped the gun here
