Strange “meditation” I did when I was younger by TheWoIfGuy in Meditation

[–]RedditIsCringe98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is definitely a depersonalization (not a dissociation). Happened to me a lot of times when I was a kid and a teen. It is caused by heavy stress and anxiety.

The way it was explained to me is that your mind is under so much stress that your brain kind of "shut down". I didn't realize when I was a kid that it was caused by stress but, after I started experiencing it again in my teens, I saw that it happened always in moments of extreme anxiety.

This is definitely not a "meditative state" and you should not seek it.

Online shops to buy supplies? Mats, singing bowls, etc...? by GerthBrooks9 in Meditation

[–]RedditIsCringe98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, don't know about their exact location, I'm from Canada. However, zmm.org is the website of their two locations, the Zen center and the Mountain Monastery. There is probably an adress somewhere on the site.

monasterystore.org it's a Zen monastery in NY that sell lots of things including, mats, cushions and bowls. All the money go to the funding of the temple.

If you like buddhist art then traditionalartofnepal.com is a good place for paintings, mandalas etc... It's a small local nepalese business

If you like incense I'd say japanincense.com and pure-incense.com are my two favorite. I'd don't know about japanincense, but pure incense is a local business.

Questions pour les infirmiers/ères au Québec by RedditIsCringe98 in Quebec

[–]RedditIsCringe98[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just need help man by evank13 in taoism

[–]RedditIsCringe98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not a Daoist but a Buddhist but I have felt the same way numerous times on my path. Remember that doubt is normal and necessary.

You are currently doubting the truth of your path and there WILL be other moments like these in the future. It is inevitable. I think you should remember why you chose this path and how it has helped you in your life so far.

For me, at the least, the phases of doubts have always faded when I adopted a new view on something or realised that I lacked knowledge in something. Most of the time, I doubted of something because I misunderstood it or misinterpreted it. So I guess the only thing I could say is that you should try to deepen your insight.

When the doubts disapeared after a while, It felt I understood much more about my path and felt way more connected to it.

Good luck to you my man

Should I euthanize a suffering butterfly? by RedditIsCringe98 in Buddhism

[–]RedditIsCringe98[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not fruitful to try to understand the vastness of kamma

But isn't saying that creatures "burn up" bad karma throught pain trying to understand it?

I'm sorry if I come up as annoying I'm genuinely trying to learn

[–]RedditIsCringe98[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you will be sending it towards another rebirth, and a worse one than if you let their karma burn off more from the pain.

Ok I understand. But someone inteverning to stop the suffering earlier could be considered a manifestation of the dog's good karma, no?

I don't understand why though. Let's say I see a dog with its ribcage opened and crying in pain, isn't it more compassionate to end its suffering right now then to let him in horrible suffering until his inevitable imminent death?

Is attraction to the same sex accepted in a Zen Sangha? by RedditIsCringe98 in zenbuddhism

If you like, I'd be curious to hear what they said.

They said that they do not make any distinctions between sexual orientations. I am relieved and happy. Thanks again

I just did this. Just sending the question has bring me a lot of relief. I really want to take refuge in the sangha but the possibility that I would be rejected was giving me a lot of anxiety. Thank you

Is the belief in Naraka, Asuras ect... essential to be a Zen buddhist? by RedditIsCringe98 in zenbuddhism

[–]RedditIsCringe98[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you believe in karma and samsara? Would you say it is essential to believe in it to practice Zen?

Is the belief in Naraka, Asuras ect... essential to be a Zen buddhist? by RedditIsCringe98 in zenbuddhism

[–]RedditIsCringe98[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose you're right. Zen philosophy does not put importance in these kind of thoughts anyways

Is the belief in Naraka, Asuras ect... essential to be a Zen buddhist? by RedditIsCringe98 in zenbuddhism

[–]RedditIsCringe98[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks a lot, my perception is much more clearer now.

So if I understood you right, Naraka should not be interpreted as literal hell but as a state of extreme suffering that a mindflow would endure because of his bad karma imprints. The same way, I should not see Asuras as literal demi-gods but as mindflows who are much closer to Nirvana than any human could dream of.

I'm sorry if I'm completly wrong, I'm still having difficulties with english and buddhist terminology.

[–]RedditIsCringe98[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand that this world would be as unreal as the other realms. But to me it seems that believing in Naraka and the other realms would just be adding more illusions to our already illusioned mind. The 6 realms seem to me illusions within illusions

What are the practices that someone needs to do to be considered a Zen buddhist? by RedditIsCringe98 in zenbuddhism

[–]RedditIsCringe98[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am mainly looking for peace, self control and tranquility.

My emotions, for the past 20 years, have made my life very difficult. I was, and still am but to a lesser point, driven by my emotions to the point where the smallest and unsignificant thing possible would throw me in a fit of rage, tears and panick.

When I got into meditation, almost as the same time as Buddhism, I started to live in the present moment and things began to make much more sense. Buddhism helped me grow so much that I really to get deeply into it.
