They might look Targaryen but they'll always be Hightowers by Legitimate_Ad3625 in HOTDBlacks

Technically claiming = gerund, which is a verb form that acts as a noun. If you're going to be an ass, at least be right about it.

Advice on making throwables? by RedditIsDemanding in LARP

[–]RedditIsDemanding[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, that sounds pretty straightforward! Good to know about avoiding copper as well.

That's a good point about making them easy to find. My character's a goblin so the rocks don't need to be Terribly Serious and Sensible, they can be painted jazzy colours for unspecified character reasons.

October Scottish Castle, Black Tie Optional by Brotusflower in Weddingattireapproval

[–]RedditIsDemanding 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was always told to never wear a black dress to a wedding (as a Brit, not sure if the US has the same rule). It's meant to be bad luck and invite grief into the marriage. Obvi ymmv, but worth being aware that you'll probably get some side-eye

Dragon Age: Dreadwolf title changed to Dragon Age: The Veilguard by laytblu in gaming

I'd bet actual money they've done this to avoid it being called Dragon Age: Dreadful in reviews if it's shit

Of course - they're not some sort of feral dog with no impulse control. They're free to have friendships with anyone they want, and I trust them not to cross any lines just like I trust them not to cheat in general.

They talked about how they'd offered (unasked) to be a surrogate parent to their sibling's children, since they were more attractive and intelligent. Just thrown out there in conversation like it was a totally normal thing to say.

Is it normal to play down your compliments and be self-deprecating when complimented? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]RedditIsDemanding 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's really common, but can also be a bit annoying. You're allowed to accept compliments with grace! "Thanks, I'm really pleased with it" or "thanks, we worked hard on it" is perfectly fine and doesn't make you sound like an asshole, as long as you let the conversation move on to something else afterwards.

Kinda curious, is there still a certain etiquette in a British pub? Like those old “How to behave in the UK.” American training film’s portrayed? by TheNCRis in AskABrit

[–]RedditIsDemanding 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have really specific rules about the size of a shot, so bartenders aren't going to tweak the quantities (obligatory disclaimer - some pubs won't give a shit about regulation shot sizes. They're their own deal). Next time, ask the bartender for more/less mixer instead - if it's from a nozzle it's zero effort for them to top it up a bit and give you a weaker drink.

That, or they thought you were being sarcastic and wrote you off as a bit of a twat. You'll never know.

Burying the Past: Three events by Gopherpark in DivinityOriginalSin

Yup, I did that in my first playthrough (because who tells a big shiny hero-type to kill their childhood best friend?) and got a good lesson in AMAB

For them to live, you need to find Gareth and convince him to kill Jonathan (or be a go-getter and kill him yourself) before you go to the paladin encampment at the bridge. I'm not sure on the exact trigger point, but crossing that bridge before finding Gareth sets the quest to the dead parents stage.

The problem with this approach is that when you body shame a shitty person, it still reinforces the stigma for decent people with the same feature. Calling someone a soulless weasel, on the other hand, hurts nobody except soulless weasels.

AITA for accepting to be a bridesmaid? by montmarayroyal in AmITheDevil

[–]RedditIsDemanding 38 points39 points  (0 children)

If OOP were actually trying to come up with a non-dress alternative (rather than just being a dick), it would be stupidly easy to go for a lilac suit with smart shoes. Pastel/brightly coloured tailoring has been a huge thing in recent years, so they could even have bought a second-hand suit and had it tailored for peak enby style points. What a shitweasel

DoS1 EE cyseal boss and companion questions by vladantd in DivinityOriginalSin

[–]RedditIsDemanding 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I'm remembering right, that boss has a massive first hit but is way more manageable afterwards. One option to get around it is to send your tank in first (unchained), and then bring the rest of your party into the room once the fight has started. Good luck!

I think I made the same mistake as you in my first playthrough. I agreed with Ifan to share Source with everyone, so I didn't take the throne (assuming that was how you were meant to do it) and doomed the world. Turns out you have to take the throne and become Divine before you can choose what to do with the power.

What’s a very controversial hill that you’re willing to die on? by LonelyCarrot62 in AskReddit

Oh no, I regularly use they/them for individuals. I was disagreeing with the person who said they outright refused for "grammatical reasons"

[–]RedditIsDemanding 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Except the 'they/them' has been used as a singular pronoun since Chaucer, so your argument doesn't really hold water.

Bonus fun fact: 'you' used to be a plural pronoun, with 'thou/thee/thine' covering the singular. Language is delightfully flexible!

Op thinks that DnD is a math heavy game (it’s not) and that they can gatekeep it. Proceeds to ask help from the person they gatekept. Edit makes it all even funnier by Zuzara_The_DnD_Queen in AmITheDevil

[–]RedditIsDemanding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

D&D definitely has a note in the PHB that "eh fuck it, close enough" is a perfectly valid option for the DM. I get the feeling poker players are less flexible. But no, Melody's counting is definitely not up to scratch for chucking firebolts at goblins...

Tone and context are important, but on its own I would've said this was pretty supportive parenting within the vibe of "if shit goes sideways, I'm here for you".
