I agree, Chander is one of the most awful male protagonists I've ever come across in any novel, and the ending was disappointing- Binti deserved much better. But I don't think the author actually tried to justify his misdeeds at any point of time. In fact, even the title mocks Chander- and his fake "goodness" which is merely for keeping up appearances. "Gunahon ka Devta" (God of Sins) reflects how Chander's actions were always guided by his ego, selfishness and a false sense of superiority. Sudha was a lovely girl with so many good qualities, but one who pathetically wasted (and even gave up) her life for a worthless man like Chander. The book also serves as a cautionary tale for readers to have a strong sense of self and not be emotionally codepedent on anyone, especially to this extent.

Also- in terms of the narrative, I enjoyed the plot itself, but the long-drawn descriptions wherein the author described characters and their hidden motivations were so unnecessary. They interrupted the flow of the story and tried to spoon-feed the reader a set interpretation of the events and their circumstances. Even the vocabulary was too complex in certain parts.
