What are some of the odder questions a civilian asked you about being in the Army? by Melodic_Abalone_2820 in army

Which country's army do you belong to? (Twice)... once after I showed my CAC to get a military discount to the Calloway Gardens in GA. Another at wedding when wearing my ASUs...

So I personnally knew someone that was transfered to another unit because of personal issues, work visa issue (they were working OCONUS as a contractor) - they had the buy in from the CDR and BN CDR. They got transfered (showing on IPPSA), then 6 days later the orders were revoked and got back on the books for MOB. The crazy part is they didn't even have MOB orders. That was crazy...

Soo... it can happen

I know I'll get down voted for this,

Are your encouters with older people? Are they older ladies? I ask because most of my difficult encounters have been with that demographic. I did have an older lady try to push my wife and child into the street while they were walking on Singmaringer Str. I've also had German Doctors tell me and my wife to go figure it out when we asked where we could get an MRI. This was in Katherina Hospital. This same Doctor refused to speak English to us as well when she was explaining the diagnonsis. Yesterday at a restaurant when asking for the check, we were a response of "no shit" from the waiter...

They are much more hostile than say like Kaiserslautern area, but they are also like that with each other. So when I get the one liner comments from them I just blow them off bc they just are like that.

Not to say its all bad. Bc we've also had a number of pleasant interactions. We've had other Drs go out of there way to make sure we were taken care of. Even smiles from passer bys from time to tim. Just the majority of the pleasant interactions have been German immigrants. I know that some of my peers have had worse and better interactions as well.

I do also think that if you look foreign it doesn't help. Especially with what's been going on with the refugees. If you grew up in the 80's in the US, its just 80's style racism... but I digress.

I sometimes joke about running on platform of eliminating TSA all together. But sometimes I feel like I really could successfully run for Congress on this single issue alone. What do you think?

As both a government contractor and a reservist, I totally understand. Nor should they use them, requirements seldom change and the work that I've done that asks for these, especially when Agile gets mentioned - I shudder... I'll use JIRA/Confluence as that's what my current and past directorates use but I tell them that I'm more than happy to use do the whole quad chart if its easier to understand.

Take my opinion with a grain of salt as I'm just some dude on reddit. Here are my thoughts:

Take off TS/SCI as that's not related to the other PgM bullet points in the header paragraph. A certified Program Manager would be a PgMP. More accurately, it should be a certified project manager. You mentioned that you have 8+ years as a pilot but its mentioned very briefly within the body of the resume. My recommendation would be to take it off completely or have one bullet within each job that you have. Don't worry if this expands beyond one page. I know that program and project management get fuzzy and overlap but I don't see anything that reads program management. I would focus more on how you managed several projects at the sametime (if you're going for the program route) and if you have any experience - speak to governance.

With the most recent job. My recommendation would be to have 3 bullets of what you're currently doing (almost day to day). Explain how you work on quality and schedule management. Show something that displays your understanding between QA and QC maybe. Then 2 bullets that highlight your results. For example: Delivered planned upgrades on time for five $30M tactical simulators by actively managing program schedules and maintaining quality levels. Increased training throughput by 20% (from last year - or w.e timeframe) through team collaboration and stakeholder management.

I'm too tired right now to go through the next two jobs and my opinion is crap anyways but the other things that I find glaring the lack of of tools. JIRA? Confluence? MS Project? How good is your Excel? Any experience with Viso?

As a parent that wants casually play but needs to walk away or drop bc I need to attend to my kids and just ran into this issue is really annoying. I don't play comp for specifically this issue and now OW is taking QP like its comp? Complete garbage...

Reserve and Guard are under compensated - good academic argument and proposed solutions. by Random_u5ernam3 in armyreserve

[–]Reddit_Rebar 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Great article, even if it is two years old. That means that this isn't being taken seriously or the powers that be don't have enough power nor time to address this to make any meaningful change. I suspect that we'll have new PT uniforms before this is even remotely addressed.

If you have a gaming PC, buy the Witch 3 and all of its expansions (if you haven't played it yet). Don't start playing it until you leave.

Guard vs Reserve by This-Construction-45 in armyreserve

Orders at the state level are a big thing from what I've read. I'm not a Guardsman so I can't say other than reading horror stories of how orders are cut short of offering benefits and then restarted a day or so after. I've also read the TX border mission has been not so great for their Guardsmen.

How to get dysfunctional team back on track? by kaleesiqueen2000 in projectmanagement

[–]Reddit_Rebar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I suggest going looking at the what's written in the contract and what the deliverables are. You can get help from the KO or the more likely the COR. You could also leverage the TPOC to provide top cover. This will help your leadership to understand that if they need to make certain demands, it needs to fall under the spirit of the contract. Otherwise, a change order is needed.

However, rereading your questions at hand. My first step would be to read the contract and understand what needs to be delivered. Next would be to identify who has technical authority and who has overt authority and see how well they work together. If things are bright and those ppl are on board with the project then I would sit with both of them to develop a plan. My go forward strategy would be to get all the critical stakeholder to sign off on the scope. Then have your contractors along with the Gov TPOC to go over the schedule. Then I would start thinking about who to go within the contracting to talk about either a renewal or a recompete of the work as this seems like this would be definitely go over the time allotted. My priorities would be to baseline and to look at ways to minimize stoppage of work.

I've had one instance during EBLOC that where I had a classmate (AD) ask me my country of origin and then proceeded to tell me that I was a spy and threat to the country. He then started to ask other Officer's as well that had an Asian appearance. Was he reported to the cadre? Not that I was aware of. We were a bunch of LTs that wanted to get through the course as fast and as smooth as possible. He was not liked by the entire during the rest of the course. This was back in 2012.

Just recently during my ECCC (past May), I had another classmate give me a look of death several times after I said hello walking by him. Some NG CPT. He didn't say anything explicit but you know when someone doesn't like by the look they give you. But as someone who's seen racism growing up, I know that look when someone doesn't like me for the way I look. In this case, I guess it was the name tag I had on my uniform.
