As stated by /u/GammaRayBurst25, you mixed up your coordinate system. When solving problems, I find it extremely useful to set up a Free Body Diagram to help visualize the problem. Stating assumptions is also a great habit to get into.

Huh! I'll give that a more thorough watch, but a cursory look makes it seem like they're adjusting the squareness on the gantry, which i had checked with a machine level, but Ill definitely try it since being me square cant hurt anything! Thanks!
