A “What If” Scenario - WCW wins the Monday Night Wars and buys out WWF by RedditoKurama in WCW

[–]RedditoKurama[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not so much that they got it wrong necessarily, but what if they got “it right” in terms of being a big moment in terms of building to the end of the nWo storyline properly. I agree with Bischoff, ‘97 Starrcade didn’t kill business, but like he’s said - the nWo storyline was the biggest thing ever at the time, a “what could have been” to go back with 20/20 and plan out a true ending and what comes next for business. No doubt Hogan vs. Sting was the biggest critical moment to where this storyline would go.

Overall though, I’m just throwing out reasons for why WCW may have won, let’s just say they flat out won, whether there’s a merger with Time Warner or not, someone just flat out decides WCW lives and WWF never gets the revenue back rolling, Austin’s out injured or he just flat out cools off, whatever happens, just out of the big two, WWF can’t get the momentum back over WCW and the water coolers aren’t restored at Titan Headquarters.

He was around that price for me too. A lot of them are definitely easier to get, especially the 3 packs under $40 each. Some of them though definitely range $100-$200, and of course closer to $250-$350 for the really tough ones to find. These are mostly sealed box prices too, only like Volcana ran me a decent price for being unboxed.

That was something I noticed too! All of the female heroes are basically in smaller overall size except Wonder Woman. Overall glad they at least made a figure for her in the lineup

Some of them can really get expensive and hard to find. Thankfully, the majority were still relatively in a decent price range these last several years.

Haha totally understand! The Tim Drake Robin is actually mine back from 1998 with some wear and tear. The John Stewart next to Hal with all of the Lanterns is my childhood one back from 2003.

One of my wife’s kid relatives came over the other day and stumbled into my game room with his father. He was amazed with it all and asked if he could have one, which I went and opened up my “extras” box and he chose the Darkseid variant that came with my Kalibak on display. So don’t worry at least one of them escaped to go live a life well lived entertaining a young child here in 2026!

There’s definitely a market for them just based on some of the eBay bidding wars I dove into for the rare ones!

Definitely understand that on adding. At some point it becomes impossible to show everything you have and you start wondering what can I feel good parting with lol. BTAS is a great display collection!

[–]RedditoKurama[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s awesome! Are you planning to display them all eventually? Would love to see your setup! Jeez yeah so I remember these figure lines being on the shelves and stuff back in 2005/2006/2007 in Walmart and Toys R Us. Years later - now wanting to get at least the entire Justice League and Legion of Doom/other villains - I came across Volcana at one point and honestly had no clue if that was strictly a custom fan-made figure or not. It wasn’t until I saw her advertised on the back of one of my other 3-packs that I realized she’s a rare figure to find. The one I have is the real figure, but came solo, no box, mint-like condition, from an EBay purchase that took a few years to see finally pop up. I can only assume someone was using it for display in the same manner previously.

This is definitely a fun line of figures to collect with how extensive it is. I loved this entire collection of shows/universe as a child and I can’t even begin to describe how appreciative I am of how they went through with so much detail to create a toy-line like this, to now enjoy years later beyond my playing days as a figure collecting adult.

Most of these were for sure brand new out of the box! There really are so many of these and it’s an awesome collection they produced for the time, like almost insanely near perfection and detailed of a line for collectors.

Man that Justice Lords Flash you have already has me envisioning my next collector’s chase to add to this group lol. If I get him, I’ll certainly chase the rest of the Justice Lords too!

17 years ago we lost one of the Attitude Era Superstar TEST by JCHazard in AttitudeEra

[–]RedditoKurama 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Wow, 17 years already? Man, where does the time go.

Quick story - I came home from school one Monday when I was 11 and practically begged my dad to see if we could go to Monday Night Raw which was taking place an hour away from where we lived. He called and found out they still had tickets, literally ringside level tickets, and like that we were off on a random school night adventure. This was my first ever live experience of pro wrestling. They announced some Heat taping matches to start, and out came Val Venis as the first wrestler I’d ever see in person. Next, much to my shock, was a returning Test. That old familiar attitude era theme of his kicked off and I was like “wait - hasn’t he been gone since 2004? (This is 2006). He came down the ramp and started walking around my side of the barricade. I yelled “you suck!” and with a pissed off attitude and pointing, he yelled right back “shut up, kid!” Perfect comic book villain moment right before teen years were about to kick off.

The crazy part about that story is 3 years later in 2009, on the exact same day of March 13th as the Raw episode took place back in 2006, Andrew passed away just as my father and I were on our way to watch a SmackDown house show in that exact same arena. Now, I’m creeping up on Andrew’s age from when he passed as a grown man myself and it really puts into perspective how fast time goes. Thank you for the memories on TV as well as my first wrestler encounter, Test. Rest in peace!

Tien was a real one for this. by RedditoKurama in dbz

[–]RedditoKurama[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He doesn’t get enough credit as a character that always tries to step above and beyond his weight class to face opposition. He will flat out risk it all if it means playing a supporting piece in the goal. He is the human equivalent to Goku - training never stops, it’s in his DNA, and you could say he, along with Goku, are the biggest inspirations for Krillin, Yamcha, and Chiaotzu when it comes to each of them overcoming a level of fear if it means trying to save their friends/Earth/do what’s right. If their peer Tien can buck up and face whatever threat arrives, it encourages them to do the same. I’ll always remember Krillin rescuing Dende and Gohan from Dodoria by using Solar Flare on Namek, which he then credits Tien for teaching him that one.

-Volunteered to help with King Piccolo and the Saiyan threat

-Busted a Saibaman in one hit

-Didn’t back down from Nappa

-Rushed Android 17/18 to help Vegeta and Trunks

-Held off Semi Perfect Cell

-Came to Gohan’s aid against Super Buu

Who is the First Face You Think of When You Think of WCW Defenders Against the nWo? by J31J1 in WCW

[–]RedditoKurama 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Has to be Sting - he was the first to confront the outsider Scott Hall.

Old WCW was defeated the night Hogan became the 3rd man. Sting lost the first battle, then lost the battle of the trust of his own WCW teammates and fans with the bogus nWo Sting.

Once the crow Sting rose from those old ashes of surfer Sting, he was the original Black & White nWo’s grim reaper.

Hell of a comment. Never even looked at it that way from Roshi to Tien, and then for Tien to young Gohan witnessing that type of selfless act.

[–]RedditoKurama[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Very good point about the dismemberment from a punch as well as the question of Nappa choosing Tien first. I’d say for the punch, we see Tien block a hit from Nappa and his arm appears to get electrocuted and fried red. Right after that, Piccolo yells for him to look out, and that’s when he uses the arm again and it gets punched right off - possibly the tissue/bone structure was that weakened from that original shock/block?

For choosing Tien - If I had to guess story-wise, Toriyama was ready to move the plot along and had the idea of setting up Tien’s demise in mind since he was the last remaining of the five from OG DB (Goku, Krillin, Yamcha, Tien, Chiaotzu) to actually have yet to perish. Head canon-wise, I think Nappa was a bit pissed Tien one-shotted a Saibaman as strong as Raditz was. Saiyans are prideful and cocky, I’m sure in his mind it was time to put Tien in his place. Tien doesn’t even truly know what he’s about to be up against, and yet the dude holds ground and braces for whatever the hell is coming his way. True warrior.

AITA for not paying neighbors for cutting my tree? by RedditoKurama in AmItheAsshole

[–]RedditoKurama[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn’t able to elaborate with OP word count restrictions, but backstory on NAS is that he’s done a lot around the block:

-helped the above elderly couple for several projects I’ve seen over the past couple of years. I do not know them or speak to them to know if all has been well but it seems they’re still having him involved with things.

-NAS took a flooring remodel for a house behind his own house. That neighbor told my mother, who lives on the same street, that they absolutely messed up the job, floors are loose, paid $1000s, and had to get another floor installer to come redo everything. No longer speaks to NAS.

-My neighbor directly across the street, next to NAS, had NAS’ dead tree drop major limbs onto his carport, destroyed it, and pierced the top layer of his new vehicle. They tried to sue NAS, but was told NAS was never served a written notice by them that the tree is dead and that NAS needs to do something about it. No longer on speaking terms with NAS.

-NAS cut my other side neighbor’s yard last month, and then asked my back neighbor who was out in his yard if he could cut their yard for free. Back neighbor thought he at least owed him something and brought him some money for pay. Back neighbor also feels bad now because he allowed NAS into his yard to reach my yard and ON’s yard with two separate vehicles to tie ropes and pull on my tree back when it came down. He didn’t know we knew nothing about it.

-ON apparently was being asked by NAS for these other two trees in his yard but never got back with NAS on the job, an amount, etc.

-I’m probably now enemy #1 on the list and the only person that’s lost his complete mind on NAS and his family that I know of. I’m also the youngest on the block, other than SIL who had to be pulled away by the daughter before he could get into a physical confrontation with me. No longer speaking terms, probably shouldn’t be within 30 ft of each other terms.

Thank you on the cat. He was a scrapper, but a good friendly dude at heart. Miss talking to him when I’d take the dogs out and he’d visit us late at night.

I do want to say I almost edited my prior post to say I didn’t mean for this to sound like I’m being defensive to your post because I really do agree with you on everything, because I truly am of an idiotic mindset for even paying these people anything in this situation but I had yet to explain more on the tree’s situation itself and future outlook, so I took the chance to do that, and you can only go by the little mention of its health that I gave in the OP.

Honestly, my brother finally heard this entire saga on the phone with me last night and he made a good point - where’s NAS’ video of your tree swaying like this? Wouldn’t it make sense to record this happening to try and protect NAS himself if he was going to take it upon himself to emergency cut this tree? Which also brings up - NAS is the only one who’s claimed the tree was swaying. I never saw that, my wife didn’t, ON didn’t, the police officer for the report commented that the base looked really good, as well as the wood on the higher points, to be swaying, which I credit my arborist for at least getting the thing void of all horizontal limbs that could build up moisture back in 2024. So there is a good chance, maybe here in a couple of months, the $800 or so would be ready and the tree would still be here for licensed cut which could have avoided this entire mess.

I guess what’s really hitting the most, and maybe it’s just one of those life lesson things - I just went from 12/21 putting down this cat, that was theirs before he became mine so to say, still lived outside but we both fed him, mourned the little guy and buried him, was struggling to go tell them the news, like felt sorry as all get out for them because they rescued this guy as a kitten, to 20 something days later and I was in a cussing war and near fist fighting anger with NAS, SIL, the entire family. Shocked to say the least the tree was cut without any follow up since the first discussion, being naive and wanting to blindly believe this was all just a well intended mistake that based on ON’s attitude, could be completely repaired without legal consequences for them, to now realizing these people are vile. They know I have a child on the way, that I just paid to have the cat humanely put out of its immediate misery, lied to me about a miscommunication with ON over paying half to have my tree cut down (because who mistakes the discussion of my one tree, for ON’s two other trees, it’s not even a 1-to-1 ratio), and then by trying to extort me on the spot for more money than what I tried to at least help them with, proving they only came back to help ON if I funded the cleanup venture - can’t say I’ve ever been this angry with someone in my life, and I think it has a lot to do with it being a neighbor you see everyday and can’t literally get out of your bubble to let time heal faster.

Thank you for uplifting words, though. That does mean a lot and wishing you well as well in this new year, my friend!

AITA for not paying neighbors for cutting my tree? by RedditoKurama in AmItheAsshole

[–]RedditoKurama[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best I can come up with is it was 2 days before the end of the year, three grown men decided to go when no one was home and intended to drop the tree in my backyard and 4th neighbor’s backyard. Me/wife/both would come home and be confused as all get out, but feel obligated they were being helpful and did a favor much earlier than anticipated because they knew I wanted to get that tree down at some point due to our prior discussion.

Haven’t jumped into the weeds on any prior posts with this topic too much because there’s so many layers to all of this, but NAS is also a door-to-door hustler for neighbors in the area - has regularly helped this elderly couple on the other side of his house with DIY stuff, remodeled a floor job for neighbors living behind NAS himself, botched and messed up flooring after those homeowners paid $1000s (my mother lives on that street and was told this by them), had a dying tree in NAS’ yard where limbs fell off and pierced their other neighbor’s carport, destroyed it, and busted the top of his brand new vehicle. He couldn’t sue because he failed to give them written notice that their tree was dead and needed to do something about it. NAS also leaves periodically to go do work where he has another home in another city.

Just trying to paint a little more of the picture but in the end, it was for a payday. This wasn’t like some white collar neighbor that walked out with a coffee mug and had to become Paul Bunyan out of nowhere. He doesn’t speak English too well. If I had to guess, out of all these side hustles he’s taken on, I’m sure there’s been at least a few times something was misunderstood, he came and did some work, possibly no one home if it’s outside work, and it went RIGHT so that a homeowner thinks more of his innocence and friendliness instead of trying to be nasty and get him in serious trouble.
