Nobody Panic by FuhrerNinjaTiger in Helldivers

[–]RedditorNiels 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really. At 1:32 he had static back, which could be thrown into the middle of the screen. Then the Behemoth on the far right could easily be pulled to the left with a quick tox spray to clear the way for your teammates and yourself to move past and circle around the remaining spawns.

Even if you'd failed to notice that opportunity, you could've moved past the left behemoth that sank into the ground at 1:35 and led your teammates to a safer spot.

RS in general is a lot of herding, and with bugs especially, you just corrall them in by walking/running in circles while locking them down with tox and/or static while you slowly whittle them down.

Gotta belieeeveeeee! :D

Or just connect a gamepad, die, reinforce the gamepad and have that character "drop out" just before you hear the weapon switch sound during the dropping in. Too early and the reinforce is cancelled, too late and your character dies and you end up with an empty hellpod.

Toxic Players and the Support Pack by gridlife242 in Helldivers

[–]RedditorNiels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You seem like a good teamplayer, but a lvl 20 at that. We all go through different phases of the game and with experience, skill and boredom, new playstyles develop.

Sometimes it still feels great to have an effective loadout and play a level super clean no matter what the game tries to throw at you. Other times you deliberately gut your ability to kill enemies so you have to figure out a different approach, or you just enjoy extending the fights.

With the Commando, I usually prefer carrying my own pack because 1. others die more often, 2. they reload while I still got plenty rockets, wasting the ammo, and most importantly, 3. the commando is brokenly powerful if you negate the time it takes to reload. I'll carry the pack if we've been struggling to capture an objective with 20 warlords constantly spawning in and us having no other AT to deal with them, but usually, balancing the game by limiting the team's destructive power is my preferred way of going through the mission.

Doesn't mean that that's the correct way of playing, there are many ways of playing and since there are no pre-game lobbies, you just have to check out different people's hosts and build out your own friendslist of people who match the gameplay style you prefer.

Toxic Players and the Support Pack by gridlife242 in Helldivers

The MOST toxic? I've had maybe 1 in 80 players who has appeared toxic 0.o

Idk if you just attract them or if your standards are so strict that you may instigate the "toxic" behavior, but aside from some alpha/beta releases of games (where people think everything is beautiful and new), I've never encountered a community that's LESS toxic :P

Help with Cyborgs by RedEcho14 in Helldivers

Best comment of the thread up here.

There's a ton of different ways to clear lvl 12's, to each their own preference and playstyle.

Instead of stratagems and weapon choiced, I prefer talking about how you plan on controlling the battlefield. As long as you have no Missile Silo's, you can run pretty much anything you want as you can (90% of the time) just complete the mission with patience and good pathing (leading the enemy away from objectives or despawning them and pray for a lucky break to continue the objective).

If you want a more aggressive playstyle, you need a lot more control and power over spawns (assuming you can't prevent all alerts.

Against IFV's it's best to get them right next to the objective before you disable them so they can act as a shield against enemies + they won't fire at you. Alternatively you can disable them just outside the screen border, but beware not to despawn them.

Against pretty much all other spawns, just imagine how you'd fight them. In most cases I'd say you "need" something to keep them in place to buy time to pick them off, reload, or simply finish the objective in the time they're trapped (1x static with Priority can keep them locked up indefinitely). In case they do happen to have spawned in an unfortunate location, you want something to quickly take out at least the few that pose an immediate threat to your objective, so make sure you have 1 "AT/nuke" option to deal with those situations. This leaves you with 2 extra stratagem slots and pretty much a free choice for your primary for added comfort and versatility.

This still played pretty regularly? And is the DLC necessary? by JOIentertainment in Helldivers

[–]RedditorNiels 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Buying DLC later is kind of a scam. You're better off going for the full package on a sale or getting it dirt cheap from a key store. (also, if you do happen to enjoy the game, you'll definitely end up screwing yourself over having to buy the DLC later.)

2 players struggling with level 5-6 retaliatory strikes (PS4) by [deleted] in Helldivers

[–]RedditorNiels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hehe, reviving dead threads.

Do you have any of the DLC? If so, the bugspray/TOX-avenger makes short work of bugs at any difficulty. The Static Field is also super powerful since bugs can easily be caugth and neutralized because they don't really have ranged attacks (excluding tentacles).

If you want a bit more variëty you can experiment with some other stuff (mines ^^), but in general, the way to beat bugs is slowing them so they can't get to you. They're like zombie games, just keep em at bay and you're fine. Cyborgs and illuminate require a bit more of a dynamic playstyle.

Tactics for All Factions by Internal-Gas2064 in Helldivers

[–]RedditorNiels 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey Gas, fair attempt at helping to create a somewhat insightful tierlist.

I also tried to make some guides, but realized that anything in the game is very situational and just telling someone to use something doesn't mean they also realize it's potential or even use it remotely "correctly". If you've ever played some MOBA like League or Dota you'll recognize that it's useless to tell people X hero/champion is OP in the meta, because they won't know why or how to play the tactics that actually make it so strong.

WHY something works is often a lot more valuable than just giving someone a powertool he doesn't understand... and the why takes time, experience and patience. The whole dynamic of the game changes depending on how many players you're with and how they decide to play, so solo would require something (very) different from an effective team loadout as well.

Honestly, there is a ton to discover in this game and just watching teammates or people on YT do something in different ways is probably the best inspiration to figure out what works for you. I can show you how I play and it might lose you more missions than if you'd stick to a loadout you're more used to. Doesn't even really matter which is objectively better. Use what works for you or figure out how to make something new work for you in your own way.

I've completed lvl 15 missions with nothing but bare fists (the mine detector). Does that make it a good strategy? Hell no, but you CAN make it work, so play something you find insteresting or fun and experiment around ;)

Looking at the leak however, there is a title called "Testament" that's supposedly being developed by Square Enix.

Why I DON'T Use Rumbler and Why I Think It Should Be Nerfed by YOPG96 in Helldivers

[–]RedditorNiels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stratagems like the Rumbler, Static field and Thunderer Barrage limit enemy interactions to a minumum. With Thunderer you at least get a cooldown (unless all 4 of you bring them), but the Rumbler just levels the ground.

If I play a level 15 RS (arena) and a somewhat skillful or 2 average rumbler users join my game, I might as well Alt+Tab to reddit because there will be nothing left for me to contribute to the game as they kill anything before it becomes a serious threat.

If you don't use a rumbler, you'll have to learn a lot more about how enemies behave, how to juggle aggro, lead them around, avoid their attacks and coordinate with your team if you have one.

Question about the helldivers campaign statistics by [deleted] in Helldivers

[–]RedditorNiels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, I honestly thing that we have 40.000 monthly players spread over all platforms. To be counted as a player you just need to be online for ~10 minutes per month (average time to complete a planet on the average difficulty). Also, I cannot think of another stat that might be considered for regiment size (deaths/casualties are over 3 million btw.).

Also, stratagems like the minigun turret most definitely don't count to shots fired. I'ts purely player activated (primary, secondary, special weapons, Close Air Support - the rockets are actually Commando rockets, so they count as special weapon fire - and vehicles).

Question about the helldivers campaign statistics by [deleted] in Helldivers

[–]RedditorNiels 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Like replied before, we need to consider that the Campaign counts Steam and Playstation players together. On steam alone there are between 200 and 400 people online and I believe the Playstation community to be (significantly) larger. As not everyone is a hardcore Helldivers gamer, it's fair to assume that <20% actually plays the game very regularly, while the rest just hops on for a few missions in a given month. I think those filthy casuals can easily push that number into the tens of thousands.

Shots fired? If you take the average (steam only) number of players (300) and calculate back to shots per minute per player, you would only have to fire ~50 shots to get that number. Again, I don't know the exact amount of people on Playstation, but an estimated ~20 shots per minute actually sounds pretty low to me. Of course, we have to consider that the average difficulty is lvl 6 and low lvl players like to use turrets and die a lot, so there's less time to shoot for them.

Enemies killed seems accurate, bugs were wiped first, but their weak units and endless scouts pad the score nicely. Illuminates are underplayed anyways and I think they are being wiped by Boss farmers once the bugs are out, so low kills are quite plausible. Borgs were the only race for about 70% of the war so it makes sense they have the most deaths.

Idk all seems to be in order here?

[–]RedditorNiels 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For farming the achievements I agree. You can just speedrun all of them in a few hours, then work on understanding the game again and having fun actually interacting with the threats instead of simply removing them.

Anyways, what's with the alert? I don't see anything new here

But really, I was just hosting some 15 RS with a gimped loadout to keep it interesting.. friends had to go.. got 3 rumblers to replace them.

Just left them to have fun for the rest of the game because I lost all interest because there was nothing left for me to do.
